IMPROVEMENT IN BU RGLAR- ALARMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,974, dated November 13,1877; application filed September 20, 1877. 7
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 0. (Jonas DUSENBURY, of New York city, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Device for Op-' room is warned of the intruder. This device .is so simple, so portable, and so inexpensive that it must prove invaluable to travelers sleeping in hotels or inns.
My invention consists in providing an attachment, in form of a crank, to be pivoted to the upper window-sash, and so arranged that it may readily be attached or detached at will. When attached to one of the partitions of the panes in the sash, the lower end of the crank, or the connection between the two arms, will rest on the top of the lower sash, and when either the upper or lower sash is moved a weight hung on the extreme end of the outer arm of the crank will drop down, and thereby cause the trigger of an alarm-clock or any other similar contrivance, to be moved, and thereby sound the alarm.
Referring to the drawings, Figure I is a front view of a window frame and sashes embodying my invention. Fig. II is a detached the device for operating the allel with the top of the lower sash 0. Into this tube is inserted the arm j of the crank formed device E, the said tube G being so placed that the lower part is of the crank will rest on the top of the lower sash G. A weight, W, placed on the extreme end of arm lwill drop down and pull the string S, attached to the trigger T of the alarm D.
It will readily be understood that when either the upper or lower sash is moved the crank will be raised, and thereby cause the arm [to shift its position, which will displace the weight W, and cause it to fall down and operate the trigger of the alarm, as hereinbefore stated.
Having thus described my invention,I desire to claim- A device for operating an alarm by moving a window-sash, consisting of the arm j, crank k, arm Z, tube G, with gimlet-point h, in combination with cord S and weight W, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
