Secured to the bottom surface ,of the body portion 15 is a lock which comprises a bolt 21. (See Figs. 3 and 6.) Pivoted. to the bolt 21 by a pin 23 is an arm 24 of a bell crank lever 25 which comprises an arm 26 pivoted to a link 27 20 by a pin 28. The bell crank lever 25 is pivoted to the body portion 15 by a pin 30. The link 27 is pivotally connected to a bolt '32 by a pin 33. The bolt 32 is slidably journaled in a door 34 formed in the body portion'15 and is adapted 25 to enter a recess 35 formed in-a hardened steel plug 36 which is seated in a bore 37 formed in the container 10. The bolt 32 is provided with a bore 40 in which 7 a plug 41 is slidably journaled. The .hardened steel plug 35 prevents unauthorized' persons from gaining access to the'contents of the container 10 by drilling through the wall Y 0 of the container at this point so that the bolt 32 can be driven back into the bore' 34. It will be noted that the plug 36 is provided with an annular shoulder which seats upon an annular shoulder 50 provided in the bore 37. The outer end of the bore 37 is filled by a steel which is welded. to the container 10.
The lock 20 and the mechanism which operatively connects it to the bolt 41 are disposed in a recess 55 formed at the bottom of the body plug 52 portion 10, the recess 55 being preferably cov-- do ered by a plate 56 which is secured to the body portion 15 by screws 57.
As best shown in Figures 3, 5 and 6, the body portion 15";i sfprovided with integral lugs 60' .adapted to pass between the lugs 18 when the F and the shoulder 17 on the body member 15' comes to rest on the lugs 18. The closure member D is then angularly displaced until'the lugs 60 lie beneath the lugs 18 and the bolt 32' is in registry with the bore 35 in the hardened steel plug 36. The construction of the lock 20 is such that two keys are required for its operation.v One of the keys is retained on the premises and the other key is preferably in the possession of some company whichmakes daily calls to collect money deposited in the money-chest. The key retained on the premises will actuate the locking mechanism to such an extent that the bolt 32 will be retracted ,a short distance but not enough to withdraw it into the body portion 15 so that the body portion can be lifted from the container. When the bolt 32is retracted by means of the key on the premises, it occupies the position wherein it is shown in Fig. 4 as distinguished from the position wherein it is shown "in Fig. 5. Such partial retraction of the bolt 32 permits one to angularly displace the closure member D so that the outer end of the bolt132 willlpass. from the bore 35.-into an arcuate slot 62 formed in the container 10. (See Fig. .6.) It will be noted that the hardened steel. bushing 36 is slotted asat 63 so thatthe bolt. 32 maypass from the bore 35 into-the slot 62. The slot 62 is of such length that it will permit: the closure member to be angularly displaced from. the position wherein it is shown in Fig. 5 to the position wherein it is shown in Fig.. 4 so .that the inclined or beveled surface 16 of the body porton 15 is alined with the slot 13. .When: the closure member D is in this position, money may be inserted into the container throughthe slot 13. The closure member may then be returned to its closed position and the key on the premisesmay be used to bring the bolt 32. into its fully extended position so that it locks the closure member D against any displacement whatever relative to the container. 1
When the money deposited. in the. container 10 is to be removed therefrom, both of thekeys are employed to-manipulate the lock 20 so that the bolt 32 is retracted and lies entirely within the bore 34. The closure-member D may then be angularly displaced to bring the lugs 60 into the positions wherein they lie between the lugs 18 and permit the closure-member to be-lifted bodily from the container. 1

I claim:
- 1. A deposit-safe comprising: a container having a door-opening therein and a slot extending 5 from said door-opening into the interior container; and a closure-member for said door-opening, said closure-member comprisinga lock for locking it in said door-opening, said closure member being adaptedto be angularly displaced, while it is locked to said container, into positionswherein itcovers and uncovers that end of said slot open-' ing into said door-opening. 1 L

3. A deposit-safe comprising: a heavy-walled container having a door-opening therein and a slot in its wall extending into the interior thereof; a closure-member for said container adapted to be moved into and out of positions wherein it covers and uncovers the outer end of said slot while it continues to close said door-opening; and means securing said closure member in said door opening while it is in a position covering said slot or in a position uncovering said slot, said securing means being adjustable to release said closure member from said container.

A deposit-safe comprising: a heavy-walled container having a door-opening therein and having a slot in its wall communicating with the interior of the container; a closure-member for said door-opening and adapted to be moved into a position wherein it closes said slot and into a position wherein it uncovers said slot; and means for holding said closure-member locked to said container in the door-opening thereof while it is in said positions or is being displaced from one to the other, said last-mentioned means being adjustable to release said closure-member from said container to permit it to be withdrawn from said door-opening.

A deposit-safe comprising: a heavy-walled container having a door-opening therein and a slot in its wall extending from said door-opening to the interior of the container, said container having a plurality of spaced lugs projecting into said door-opening; a closure-member for said door-opening adapted to be lifted bodily therefrom and provided with spaced lugs adapted to pass between the lugs on said container, said closure-member being adapted to be angularly displaced in said door-opening to bring its lugs beneath the lugs on said container for preventing withdrawal of the closure-member from the dooropening; a lock carried by said closure-member; a bolt controlled by said lock and adapted to engage said container to prevent said closure-member from being displaced relative to said container, said lock being adapted to partially retract said bolt to permit angular displacement of said closure-member in said door-opening while it remains locked to the container, said angular movement being less than that required to bring the lugs on said closure-member out of engagement with the lugs on said container and said closure-member being adapted to uncover said slot at one end of said angular movement.

A deposit-safe comprising: a heavy-walled container having a door-opening therein and a money-slot in its wall extending from said dooropening to the interior of the container, said container having a plurality of spaced lugs pro- Ijecting into said door-opening, the surface of the door-opening having a bolt-receiving recess therein and an arcuate slot of less depth than said recess; a closure-member for said dooropening adapted to be lifted bodily therefrom and provided with spaced lugs adapted to pass between the lugsion said container; said i clc'isuremember being adapted. to be angularly-displaced in said door-opening to, bring itslugsbeneaththe;
lugs, on saidcontainer for preventing withdrawal of the closure-member from the door-opening; said closure-member being adapted to cover said money-slot when .it; is in one position. and-to; uncover-said: money-slotwhen it is angularly displaced to another position; a lock carried by said closure-member; a bolt controlled by said lock and movable into a position wherein it extends into said recess a distance greater than the depth of said arcuate slot, said lock being adapted to retract said bolt into said closuremember and to displace said bolt into a partially retracted position wherein it travels in said arcuate slot, said arcuate slot being of such length that while it is engaged by said bolt the lugs on said closure-member are in functionally operative positions with respect to the lugs on said container and said closure-member remains secured to said container, said closure-member being in the position wherein it uncovers said moneyslot when the bolt engages one end of said arcuate slot.

A deposit-safe comprising: a container having a substantially round door-opening therein and a slot extending from the surface of said door-opening through a wall of the container or into the interior thereof; a closuremember for said door-opening, said closuremember being adapted to be lifted out of said door-opening and being adapted to be angularly displaced in the plane of said door-opening, said closure-member being for-med so that when it occupies one position in said door-opening it closes said slot and when it is angularly displaced from said position into another position it uncovers said slot; and means for locking said closure-member in the position wherein it closes said slot.

A deposit-safe comprising: a container having a substantially cylindrical door-opening therein and a slot extending from the cylindrical surface of said door-opening through a wall of the container into the interior thereof; a closure-member for said door-opening having a cylindrical surface adapted to fit snugly in said cylindrical door-opening when the closure-memher is in its closed position, one side of said closure-member being beveled at the top thereof to a point below that end of the slot opening into said cylindrical surface of said door-opening and the remainder of the closure-member being of such thickness that when it is in its closed position it is adapted to close said slot, said closure-member being mounted for angular displacement in said door-opening when it is in its closed position; and means for locking said closure-member in its closed position to close said slot.

A deposit-safe comprising: a heavy-Walled container having a door-opening therein and a slot in its wall extending into the interior thereof; a closure-member for said container adapted to be moved into and'out of a position wherein it covers the outer end of said slot; and means for holding the closure-member locked to said container while it is being displaced into or out of said position.
10. A deposit-safe comprising: a heavy-walled container having a door-opening therein and a slot in its wall extending into the interior thereof; a closure-member for said container adapted to be moved into and out of a position said slot.
