APPARATUS FOR ROLLING SECTIONS HAVING TRANSVERSE RIBS Filed Oct. 24, 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented July 24, 1934 ,P'ATENT OFFICE APPARATUS FOR BOILING SECTIONS HAVING TRANSVERSE RIBS- am Seiferth, Dusseldort-Oberkasael, Germany Application mm 24, 1930, Serial No. 490,958
In Germany December 19, 1929 4 Claims. (01. 80-19) This invention relates to a device for rolling sections having relatively high transverse ribs or an irregular profile which comprises a roller and a rolling table which passes under said roller and s is providedwith recesses producing the irregular profile. In rolling such sections there is the disadvantage that ,the surfaces of the longitudinal side-edges oi. the ribs are not smooth and solid, more especially when the profile oi the projections of the base section is of larger shape. The cause of this phenomenon has not been yet satisfactorily explained but it is surmised that it is connected with shrinking or is due to the fact that the enclosed air cannot completely escape. r
The object of the present invention is to remove this objection.
- According to theinvention the said recesses ofthe rolling table are machined along their longitudinal lateral surfaces more and in another form than corresponds to the final shape and dimensions' required. For this purpose the said recesses are provided with pyramidal 0r wedge-shaped raised parts, the apex and edge of which face the operating roller. The machining of the recesses may in each case extend to a part of the adjoining lateral edges of the base section. Where it is undesirable to have raised portions in the completed section they may bemachined down. This constructionhas the advantage that very sharp edges are produced by the increased pressure that is produced by the said wedge-shaped or pyramidal raised parts. \v g The invention is diagrammatically illustrated by way of example'in the accompanying draw- .ings, in which:-'- 4 Fig. 1 is a cross sectional view through one of the completed bars showing in elevation a rib thereon.
Fig. 2 is a side elevationai view thereof.
Fig. '3 is a longitudinal sectionai view through the rolling apparatus. v
Fig. i is a. cross sectional 'view through the rolling apparatus shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view through the fitting and roiling table the roller being shown in elevation.
Fig. 6 is aira'gmentary longitudinal sectional view through the fitting the bar heme shown in eievation.
Figs. "3. d and is show in section modified forms oi the fitting for use in connection with the roii ing taioie and the metai has. i
Fig. 9 is alongitudin-i sectional View of th arrangement shown in Fig. i and desirable or an obstruction, they can be subsewhereby a ood solid edge is eflectively secured Fig. 11 is alongitudinal sectional view or the arrangement shown in .Fig. 10.
. Referring ngmmore particularly to the accompanying drawings. there is provided a profile bar 1 with a transverse rib 2 v formed integral therewith. Prior to being completed as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the bar is arranged in a fitting 3 having atransverse recess 4 at the bottom thereof in which the'material is rolled so as to provide the rib or projection 2. The fitting is mounted in a rolling table indicated iragmentarily at .4, said table cooperating with the roller 5 (Figs. 3 and 4) substantially in accordance with the apparatus shown in my copending applications 455,835 filed May 26, 1930 and 506,965 filed January 6, 1931. The formation of the base of the fitting 3 is denoted by 7. p
As shown in Figure 7 the fitting 3 is provided with a wedge-shaped raised part 6. This part produces an increased pressure on the surfaces of the longitudinal sides by its wedge-shaped formation, so that they are formed solid at the edges. Where the raised parts formed by this formation of the fitting 3 in the completed profile are unquently machined down without difliculty.
In Figure 8 in addition to the wedge-shaped raised portions the lateral edges. of the fitting are machined down further than corresponds to the flnaidimensions required for the section bar whereby a satisfactory edge to the longitudinal lateral surfaces is obtained. 4
Figure 10 shows a further machining of the lateral surfaces up to a part of the base section,
for the lateral surfaces.
"The dot and dash lines show in each case the boundary lines of the finished section bar after the superfluous parts (see Figures 7 and 8) have been machined down. $5
I claim:
1. A device for rolling sections having relatively high transverse ribs or an irregular profile comprising a roller and a rolling table passing under said roller and being provided with recesses gg producing the irregular profile which are ma= shined along their longitudin lateral surfaces more and in another form than corresponds to the final shape and 1:": ensions required, the said recesses being provided with pyramidal raised 1% parts, the apex and edge oi which Ease the opersting roiler.
2. A device tor roiiing sectiom hating rela tiveiy high-transverse ribs or an irregular profile comprising a roller and a roiiing table passing under said roller and being provided with recesses producing the irregular profile which are machined along their longitudinal lateral surfaces more and in another form than corresponds to the final shape and dimensions required, the said recesses being provided with wedge-shaped raised parts, the apex and edge of which race the operating roller.
- 3. A device for rolling sections having relatively high transverse ribs or an irregular profile comprising a roller and a rolling table passing under said roller and being provided with recesses producing the irregular profile which are machined along their longitudinal lateral surfaces and in the base of the section more and in another form than corresponds to the final shape and dimensions required, the machining oi! the said recesses extending to a part of the adjoining lateral edges of the base section, the said recesses being provided with pyramidal raised parts, the
apex and edge of which face the operating roller.
4. A device for rolling sections having relatively high transverse ribs or an irregular profile comprising a roller and a rolling table passing iinder said roller and being provided with recesses producing the irregular profile which are machined along their longitudinal lateral surfaces
