IMPROVEMENT IN KITCHEN-CABINETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,?36, dated October 30, 1877; application filed July 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. ZIEGLER, of the city and county of York, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Kitchen-Cabinet; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet when completely folded. Fig. 2 is a front elevation, on a smaller scale, with the front leaf elevated, and the ironing-board, kneading trough and board, and the spice-drawer partly drawn out. Fig. 3 is an end elevation, opposite that visible in Fig. 1, with the folding of the leaves to form a table indicated in dotted lines. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the interior of the cabinet, with the hinged leaf and cover thrown back.
Y My invention relates to an improvement in that class of kitchen furniture known as cabinets or "safes.
The-invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter de-' scribed and claimed.
In the drawing, A represents the box or case of the cabinet, which is provided with a hinged leaf, B, made of sufficient thickness, and chambered to receive a sliding ironing-board at one end, and a sliding kneading-board at the other.
' V JTGlUhB back or hinged side of this cover B is hinged a section, 0, one side of which isprovided with strips a, to form raised edges to constitute a sink-bench when the cabinet is completely folded with this side up. The other side of this hinged section is perfectly plain and smooth, and forms, when thrown back on its hinges, a leaf whose surface is continuous and flush with the smooth upper surface of the cover B, and with said cover and a second hinged leaf, 0, on the opposite side, constitutes a table for meals or other purposes.
In supporting the section 0 and the leaf 0 in their horizontal positions to form the table, the raised strip a upon the rear side of G abuts against the back of the cabinet, and forms a bracket to support the said section, while a sliding stop, I), is arranged transverselyin the cover B, and is drawn out beneath the leaf 0 to support the latter when raised.
The body of the cabinet is divided by a transverse partition, 0, into two main com partments, one of which, d, is formed into a flourchest, while the other is occupied as follows: A partitioned drawer, D, is arranged at the bottom and adapted to be drawn out in front, which drawer is intended as a receptacle for corn and buckwheat meal, respectively.
Just above the drawer, close to the front side of the cabinet, and pulling out at the end of the same, is a -spice-drawer, E, having a single row of tills for the various kinds of spices; and just above the spice-drawer, and opening at the top under the cover B, are two permanently-fixed boxes, F F, for the knives and rolling-pin, respectively. Just back of the spice-drawer E and the boxes F F and above the meal-drawer D, is arranged, in guideways, the kneading-trough G, attached to the end board G, which fits in flush with the end of the cabinet, and extends down to the base of the same, so that when the kneading-trough is pulled out the end board forms a support for the outer end of the same.
H is a sliding kneading-board, and I an extensible and reversible kneading-board, having a support, J, carried upon a slide, J.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- The combination, with the hinged cover B,
of the leaf 0, hinged to said cover, and having raised strips to upon one side to form a sink bench, and a plain surface on the other and the leaf 0, hinged to the opposite sideof said cover, and provided with a sliding stop to support the same, substantially as and for the purpose described. GEORGE P. ZIEGLEB.
