Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, it is seen that the sheet-metal barrel or tank includes a head 6 andabottom 7, and'may be of any appropriate kindandshape. The head has a circular opening 8 therein;` While the bottom has a substantial'ly` conicaldepression 9 therein, the said openingf anddepression 9 being vertically alined.
1A p'eripherally grooved and internally threaded annulus or pump-tube-seat 10 is fitted in the opening 8 in such relation that the groove 11 thereof contains and snugly embraces the margin of the opening 8, thus forming a leak-proof joint; andspot-welding or other means may be employed to prevent the member 10 from turn ing inthe opening 8.
The pump-tube is preferably formed of two originally separate sections 12 and 13, the former being preferably thick-walled so as to be sufriciently strong when externally, and internally7 serew-`threaded1 at 14 andv 15, the external threads being normalh7 engaged with the internal threads of the member 10, and the threads 15 being normally engaged with the threadedlower end1 of a hand-pump 16 which may be of any appropriate kind and may be removed and replaced at will, by turning it into or out of the tube-section 1,2.

or by other appropriate means.
The tube-section 13 is of thin bendable and compressible'material of such quality that it can be formed while` cold, and is changed from its original true-cylindrical shape as follows: First, after making the holes 18 and 19, internal annular ridges 202 and 21 are formed (by external pressure) nearits upper and lower ends; second, the valve-guard 22 and check-valve 23 are forced into the respective upper and lower ends until they are arrested by the respective ridges and- `21; third, the internal ridges24 and 25 are formed by pressing `against the upper end of the valve-guard and lower end of the checkvalve, so as to hold these respective devices in their seats; and thereafter, the ridge 26 is formed; or the ridge 26 may be formed simultaneously with forming the ridges 24 and 25 and bending the tongues 27 into the inverted cone shape shown; while reserving the swaging at 17 for the last operation in forming the complete unitary combination of pump-tube, check-valve and valve-guard.
The valve-guard 'is preferably of the twopiece sheet-metal construction shown, the lower piece having a cylindrical Wall that closes the air-holes 18, this wall merging into an annular horizontal partition or flange 29 thatsurrounds a central opening or port 30; the upper piece` being a disc 31 having an imperforate middle part and having ports 32 at its peripheral part. The imperforate part 3l is over the port 30 and is considerably larger than the latter, so
that it is impossible to reach the valve with al rod or other instrument through the port 30. If the valve-guard is moved inward or outward from its seat, the air-holes will be uncovered, thereby rendering the pump inoperative and thus defeating the purpose of anyone attempting to reiill the tank through the pump-tube.

As the pump is operated by its crank, it creates a suction in the pump-tube 13, so that the liquid is drawn into its lower end vthrough the openings 19; the liquid raises the, valve-closure, and passes thence upwards through the ports 30 and 32 of the valve-guard, thence out through the pump 16; but the spring 35 assists gravity in holding the valve-closure tight against the valve-seat when there is a tendency for liquid to return or ow down through the check-valve.I
During the operation of pumping, air must enter the tank to take place of the pumped liquid; but ordinary air-vents would result inV leakage or evaporation of the liquid, especially when the tank is laid on its side, in shipment, and rolled from place to place; so the invention includes a novel means of opening and closing the air-vents which are so small that they cannot be used as practical aids in filling or reilling the tank. Such air-vents are shown at and 37, the same being interdependent and cooperative, but only so when they are in open communication with one another, as shown in Fig. 2. 'Ihe same Spanner may be` either adjustable or reversible soY as to fit in'the Spanner-holes 44 of the member 12for removing the pump-tube, when the seal is broken at the dealers filling plant, so the tank can be refilled through the opening vfrom which the pump-tube is removed.
In Fig. 5, the parts indicated by reference characters 6a, 10a., 12a, 37a and 40a, correspond to the parts 6, 10, 12, 37and 40, in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4. The part 4Gb is soldered or other- Awise united with the container-head 6a and has an opening under that of the part 40a, so a seal can be passed through and secured in these openings, as at 41 of Fig. 2. The closure or plug 42a has aV marginal flange 42h that ts over the air-vents 37a, to prevent leakage therethrough. i
Because of the conical lower end of the pumptube, vand ofthe conical depression in the ioor '7, the pump-tubeis automatically led into the retaining engagement with the bottom 7, so that the latter cooperates or combines with the head 6 in holding the pump-tube rigid so that detriment to the head, Which'might cause leakagefat 11, is precluded.
Although I have described this embodiment of my invention very specifically, I have no intention to limit my patent protection to these precise details of construction, arrangement, or materials, for the invention is susceptible of numerous changes Within the scope of the inventive ideas as implied and claimed.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a liquid dispenser, the combination of a closed tank having a head provided with an opening, a pump-tube normally secured in said opening and extending thence to the bottom part of the tank and provided with means for securing a pump thereto, a check-valve secured in said pump-tubeY in the operative relation for permitting liquid to be pumped therethrough from the tank and preventing the flow of liquid therethrough into the tank, and a valve-guard seated in said pump-tube between said head and said check-valve in an effective relation for preventing an instrument from reaching through said pump-tube to said check-valve for holding the latter open, said pump-tube .having an airhole therein to render the pump ineffective when connected to said pump-tube and when said air-hole is open, said valve-guard being normally seated over said air-hole for closing the latter and for opening the latter in the event that the valve-guard is displaced from its seat over the air-hole.
2. The combination dened by claim 1, said tank being provided with an air-'vent through its head, said pump-tube being adjustable with relation to said air-vent and effective to close said air-vent by'its adjustment.
