My invention relates to combination garments and particularly to garments constructed with a body portion having pants and a waist and formed 1 with an openingat the rear, and further having 5 drop seat covering said opening.

In garments with drop seats and particularly in garments used for small children where the 0 beltstraps are attached to the drop seat con: siderable inconvenience arises when the drop seat is lowered and hangs in a loose manner therefrom, due to the ends of the belt'straps frequently falling into the bowl or being trampled '55 upon. Where the belt straps are guided, the belt straps frequently bunch together or as termed in the trade, become roped", making it difflcult to manipulate the same and causing discomfort to the wearer. The present invention overcomes these diihculties by providing a simple and efiective device for holding up the belt straps when the drop seat is lowered and for supporting the drop seat when the drop seat is in closing position.

My improved garment consists of a body portion which I have indicated in its entirety at A. This body portion comprises pants 10 which have attached to them a waist 11. These parts will now bedescribed in detail. I

By means of this construction an opening 34 is formed at the rear of the garment between the back 15 of the pants and the back 23 of the waist which opening is indicated at 34. When the drop seat is in closing position the same covers the opening 34 and the lateral edges 35 and 36 of the drop seat extend along the portions of the pants adjacent the seam 33.

At the upper end of the drop seat 16 is provided a waistband 37 which is disposed at the This waistband extends up to the lateral edges 35 and 36 of said drop seat. In continuation of this waistband are two belt straps 38 and 39 which are provided at the ends thereof with complemental buckle members 40 and 41. The belt straps 38 and 39 may be formed of the same piece of material as the waistband 3'? or the said belt straps may be constructed separately and connected to the drop seat or to the waistband 37 in any suitable manner. In either event these belt straps preferably lie in continuation of said waistband. When the drop seat is raised the two belt straps 38 and 39 protrude forwardly of the garment, where the same may be secured together through the complemental buckle members 40 and 41 to hold the drop seat in closing position as shown in Fig. 1.

In conjunction with the two belt straps 38 and 39-two auxiliary belt straps 42 and 43 are employed which are of substantially the same length as the belt straps 38 and 39. These two auxiliary straps are connected at correspondingends thereof to the straps'38 and 39 near the free ends of said belt straps. Said auxiliary straps are attached at their other ends to the waistband 3'1 in proximity to the lateral edges 35 and 36 of the drop seat. The straps 42 and 43 are substantially coextensive with the straps 38 and 39 so that the same lie smoothly upon the body of the wearer when the belt straps are hooked together as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The straps 42 and 43 are connected to the belt straps 38 and 39 short of the extreme ends of said straps to provide free ends 48 and 49 on said belt straps to which the buckle members 40 and 41 may be attached. The two auxiliary belt straps 42 and 43 slide through wire loops 50 and 51 which are mounted in tabs 52 and 53 secured to the tall 31 of the body A at the elevation of the waist line 32 of the garment. By means of this construction the auxiliary straps are-connected to the body through the loops 50 and 51 and serve to support the drop seat and prevent the same from sagging.

In the closing position of the dropseat the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 underlie the belt straps 38 and 39 and the tabs 52 and 53 together with loops 50 and 51 underlie the waistband 3'7, all of said parts being completely concealed thereby. When the drop seat is lowered the two auxiliary straps 42 and 43 hold up the ends of the belt straps 38 and 39. The two auxiliary straps 42 and 43 are preferably considerably narrower than the belt straps 38 and 39 and the two loops 50 and 51 are considerably larger than said straps and are formed curved. By means of this construction roping is entirely prevented and the auxiliary straps are caused to slide freely through the loops.

In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the lateral. edges 35 and 36 of the drop seat are caused to taper so that the length of the waist band 37 is considerably less than the distance measured along the waist line of the wearer from one seam 33 to the other. For this reason the loops 50 and 51 are attached to the tafl or lower portion 31 of the waist intermediate the two seams 33. With the parts so constructed the loops 50 and 51 serve to hold the tall 31 within the drop seat thereby making it impossible to pull the tail out 01' the pants when the garment is worn by a child. If desired, however, the drop seat can be made of full width across the top bringing the lateral edges 35 and 36 thereof up to the seams 33 when the drop seat is in closing position. When so arranged the loops 50 and 51 would be attached to the garment in proximity to the seams 33. With such construction the opening 34 is entirely clear.

The use of the garment is exceedingly simple. When the drop seat is to be lowered, buckle members 40 and 41 are disengaged and the drop seat grasped by the waist band 3'! and drawn downwardly. This causes the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 to slide in the loops 50 and 51 bringing the drop seat into the position shown in Fig. 3. In such position the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 are free from the garment so that the opening 34 may be opened the full width by the moving of the straps laterally. In raising the drop seat into closing position the two belt buckle members 40 and 41 are grasped and moved toward the front -of the garment. This causes theauxiliary straps 42 and 43 to slide through the loops 50 and 51 which draws the drop seat upwardly and into closing position. As the belt straps38 and 39 approach the forward position of the body of the wearer, the drop seat is automatically brought into closing position and the tail 31 drawn into the pants proper through the downward pull ex- .erted upon the loops 50 and 51. when the drop seat is in closing position the ends of the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 are in close proximity to the loops 50 and 51 and assist in supporting the drop seat. In such position the lateral edges 35 and 36 of the drop seat overlie the portions of the tail between the loops 50 and 51 and the seams 33.

Where the loops 50 and 51 are attached to the garment in proximity to the seams 33 the garment may be constructed in two pieces in which case the said loops are attached to the pants at the waist line thereof. Where the two garments are permanently connected together the said straps may be connected to the waist intermediate the two seams 33 thereby assisting in holding the waist tail within the pants.

My invention is highly advantageous in that an extremely simple and practical device is provided whereby drop seats may be easily'and conveniently manipulated. By means of the auxiliary straps the ends of the belt straps are held up when the drop seat is lowered. By forming the auxiliary straps narrower the usual difliculty occasioned through roping is entirely prevented. The auxiliary straps and loops are complete- 1y concealed when the drop seat is in closed position. By use of the auxiliary belt straps, large and inexpensive loops constructed of wire may be employed instead of the usual more expensive construction. A garment constructed in accordance with my invention is extremely neat and attractive in appearance and the various parts remain in proper position throughout the use of the garment and at the same time give the user freedom and comfort. Where the loops are attached to the garment intermediatethe side seams thereof, said loopsserve to assist in holding the tail of the garment within the pants.

Changes in the specific form of my invention, as herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. A garment including a waist and pants, the latter having a drop seat, the upper marginal portion thereof, in the closed position of said seat, being substantially coincident with the waist line of the garment, said waist having a tail normally covered by said upper marginal portion of said seat, belt straps attached to said seat at its said upper marginal portion, said belt straps having means at their free ends for releasably connecting the same together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt strap, each auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to the. inner side of its respective belt strap at its free end and connected at the other end thereof to the inner side of said upper marginal portion of the drop seat adjacent to the junction between its respective belt strap and said seat, guides secured to the tail of the waist in position to be covered by said upper marginal portion of said seat, one guide being provided for each auxiliary strap and each guide being located substantially in coincidence with the point occupied by the junction between its respective auxiliary strap and said seat in the closed position of the latter, each of said straps being threaded in its respective guide and slidably cooperating therewith to pull the drop seat upwardly and bring it smoothly into place when the belt straps are brought together about the body of the wearer, and further cooperating with its respective guide to hold up the drop seat and hold down the tail of the waist.

2. A garment including a waist and pants, the latter having a drop-seat, the upper marginal portion thereof, in the closed position of said seat, being substantially coincident with the waist line of the garment, said waist having a tail normally covered by said upper marginal portion of said seat, belt straps attached to said seat at its said upper marginal portion, said belt straps having means at their free ends for releasably connecting the same together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt strap, eachauxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof ,to its respective belt strap and connected at the other end thereof to said upper marginal portion of the drop seat, guides secured to the tail of the waist in position to be covered by said upper marginal portion of said seat, one guide being provided for each auxiliary strap, each of said straps being threaded in its respective guide and slidably cooperating therewith to pull the drop seat upwardly into place when the belt straps are brought together about the body of the wearer, and further cooperating with its respective guide to hold up the drop seat and hold down the tail of the waist.

3. A garment including awaist and pants, the latter having a drop seat, belt straps attached to said seat and having means at their free ends for releasably connecting the same together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt strap, each auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to its respective belt strap at its free end and connected at the other end thereof to the drop seat, guides secured to the back of the waist, one guide being provided for each auxiliary strap, each guide being located substantially directly above the junction between its respective auxiliary strap and said seat, each of said auxiliary straps being threaded in its respective guide and slidably cooperating therewith to pull the drop seat upwardly when the belt straps are brought together about the body of the wearer, and further cooperating with its respective guide to keep the raised seat and the back of the waist in place.

4. A garment including awaist and pants, the latter having 'a drop seat, belt straps attached to said seat and having means at their free ends for releasably connecting the same together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt strap, each auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to its respective belt strap at its free end and connected at the other end thereof to the drop seat, guides securedto the back of the waist, one guide being provided foreach auxiliary strap, each of said auxiliary straps being threaded in its respective guide and slidably cooperating therewith to pull the drop seat upwardly when the belt'straps are brought together about the body of the wearer, and further cooperating with its respective guide to keep the raised seat and the back of the waist in place.

5. A garment including a waist and pants, the latter having a drop seat, belt straps having means for releasably connecting the free ends thereof together at the front of the garment,

auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to its respective belt strap at its free end and connected at the other end thereof to the drop seat, guide means for said auxiliary straps sethe wearer.

6. In a garment, pants having a drop seat, belt straps attached to said seat and having means, at their free ends for releasably connecting the same together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt strap, each auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to its respective belt strap at its free end and connected at the other end thereof to the drop seat, guides secured to the back of the garment, one guide being provided for each auxiliary strap, each of said straps being threaded in its respective guide and slidably cooperating therewith to pull the drop seat upwardly into place and thus hold it when the belt straps are brought together about the body of the wearer.
