My invention relates to combination garments and particularly to garments constructed with a body portion having pants and a waist and formed H with an opening at the rear, and further having 7 a drop seat covering said opening.

An object of the invention resides in providing a garment in which the drop seat is easily manipulated and readily moved from closing to lowered position and vice versa.

I0 A still further object of the invention resides in providing a garment in which the drop seat may be effectively applied to the garment to close the opening in the garment and to fit upon the person of the wearer in a manner to give free- Z'E'SI dom and comfort to the wearer.

An objectof the invention resides in providing a garment having belt straps connected to the drop seat and adapted tobe secured together at the front to form a belt encircling the body of the wearer.

Another object of the invention resides in providing a garment having members connected to the ends of the belt straps and to the body of the garment for holding up the ends of the belt straps 725 when the drop seat is in lowered position.

' A still further object of the invention resides in providing auxiliary straps connected to the belt straps at the ends thereof and to the body of the garment for holding up the ends of the belt when the drop seat is lowered.

An object of the invention resides in providing guides on the drop seat with respect to which said auxiliary straps may slide in the moving of the drop seat from closing to lowered position or vice versa.

A feature of the invention resides in employing loops for guiding said auxiliary straps.

An object of the invention resides in constructing the drop seat with a waistband and in form- 401 ing the belt straps in continuation of said waistband.

"Another object of the invention resides in forming said auxiliary straps in continuation of the belt straps.

An object of the invention resides in attaching the loops to the drop seat at the waistband.

v A still further object of the invention resides in disposing said loops in close proximity to the lateral edges of the drop seat.

Other objects of the invention reside in the novel combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter illustrated and/or described.

In garments with drop seats and particularly in garments used for smaller children where the belt straps are attached to the drop seat and when the drop seat is lowered hang in a loose manner therefrom, considerable inconvenience arises due to the ends of the belt straps frequently falling into the bowl or being trampled upon. Where the belt straps are guided, the belt straps frequently bunch together or as termed in the trade, become roped making it difiicult to manipulate the same and making it uncomfortable for the wearer. The present invention overcomes these difficulties by providing a simple and effective device for holding up the belt straps and for guiding thebelt straps to bring the drop seat into closing position.

My improved garment consists of a body portion which I have indicated in its entirety at A. This body portion comprises pants 10 which have attached to them at waist 11. These parts will now be described in detail.

The pants 10 comprise legs 12 and 13 which are seamed along the sides of the garment as indicated at 18, these seams extending partially along the pants leaving the rear portion of the garment free from the body portion above the ends of said seams. By means of this construction the pants are divided into a front portion 14 and a rear portion 15, the latter portion terminating in a drop seat lfiadapted to be held in position as shown in Fig. 2, or to be lowered as illustrated in Fig. 3. The legs 12 and 13 are further securedtogether along a forward seam 20 and a rearward seam 21, which seams unite in the crotch of the garment. The pants 10 are constructed with a placket 1'7 at the front thereof for the usual purpose. The placket 17 is provided with buttons for securing the same to the body of the garment and may be constructed to form a fly to cover said buttons.

The waist 11 comprises a front 22 and aback 23 which are stitched together along the shoulders of the garment through seams 24 and along the sides of the garment through seams 25. The waist preferably opens at the front thereof and is provided with a placket 2'7 and which may be closed through buttons 26. The waist 11 further includes sleeves 28 and 29 and a collar 30 which are constructed and attached to the waist in the usual manner. The front 22 of the waist 11 is connected at its lower end to the upper portion of the front 14 of pants 10. If desired, these parts of the garment may be formed of the same sheet of material and continuous. These parts may however be separately formed and connected together through buttons or in any other suitable manner. In either case the placket 27 forms a continuation of the placket 1'? so that the entire garment may be opened along the front thereof from the neck to the crotch.

At the rear of the garment the back 23 of waist 11 is formed with a lower portion or tail 31 which extends somewhat below the waist line of the garment which is indicated at 32. This tail is secured to the front 14 of the pants 10 along a seam 33 which lies in continuation of the seam 18 previously referred to. By means of this construction an opening 34 is formed at the rear of the garment between the back 15 of the pants and the back 23 of the garment, which is indicated at 34. When the drop seat is in closing position the same covers the opening 34 and the lateral edges 35 and 36 of the drop seat extend along the portions of the pants adjacent the seam 33.

At the upper end of the drop seat 16 is provided a waistband 37 which is disposed at the waist line 32 of the garment. This waistband extends up to the lateral edges 35 and 36 of said drop seat. In continuation of this waistband are two belt straps 38 and 39 which are provided at the ends thereof with complemental buckle members 40 and 41. The belt straps 38 and 39 may be formed of the same piece of material as the waistband 37 or the said belt straps may be constructed separately and connected to the drop seat or to the waistband 3'? in any suitable manner. In either event these belt straps preferably lie in continuation of said waistband. When the drop seat is raised the two belt straps 33 and 39 protrude forwardly of the garment, where the same may be secured together through the complemental buckle members 40 and 41 to hold the drop seat positively applied to the garment, as shown in Fig. 1.

In conjunction with the two belt straps 38 and 39 two auxiliary belt straps 42 and 43 are employed which are of substantially the same length as the belt straps 38 and 39. These two auxiliary straps are connected to the body of the garment by means of the seam 33 at localities indicated at 44 and 45 which are substantially at the waist line 32 of the garment. These straps are further connected to the belt straps 38 and 39 at localities 46 and 47 near the ends thereof. By means of this construction free ends 48 and 49 are formed on the belt straps to which the buckle members 40 and 41 may be attached. The two auxiliary belt straps 42 and 43 slide through wire loops 50 and 51 which are mounted in tabs 52 and 53 secured to the drop seat at the waist band 37. These tabs are disposed near the lateral edges 35 and 36 of the drop seat so that the loops 50 and 51 are in proximity to the localities 44 and 45 where the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 are secured to the body of the garment when the drop seat is in closing position. By means of this construction the auxiliary straps become attached to the body of the garment and support f the drop seat and prevent the same from sagging. In the closed position of the drop seat the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 underlie the belt straps 38 and 39 and the tabs 52 and 53 together with the loops 50 and 51 underlie the waist band 37, all of said parts being completely concealed thereby. When the drop seat is lowered the two auxiliary straps 42 and 43 hold up the ends of the belt straps 38 and 39. The two auxiliary straps 42 and 43 are preferably considerably narrower than the belt straps 38 and 39 and the two loops 50 and 51 are considerably larger than said straps and are formed curved. By means of this construction roping is entirely prevented and the auxiliary straps are caused to slide freely through the loops.

The use of the garment is exceedingly simple. When the drop seat is to be lowered buckle members 40 and 41 are disengaged and the drop seat grasped by the waistband 3'7 and drawn downwardly. This causes the loops 50 and 51 to slide along the auxiliary straps 42 and 43, bringing the drop seat into the position shown in Fig. 3. In such position the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 are well to the sides of the garment, leaving the opening 34 clear. .In raising the drop seat into closing position the two belt buckle members 40 and 41 are grasped and moved toward the front of the garment. This causes the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 to be slid along the loops 50 and 51 which draws the drop seat upwardly and into closing position. As the belt straps 38 and 39 approach the forward portion of the body of the wearer the drop seat is automatically brought into closing position. When the loops 50 and 51 reach the localities 44 and 45, the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 hold the said loops in proper position and lend support to the drop seat through said loops. At such position the lateral edges 35 and 36 lie along the portions of the body adjacent seams 33 and close the opening in the garment.

Where the garment is constructed in two pieces, the auxiliary straps 42 and 43 are attached to the pants at the waistband thereof. Where the two garments are permanently connected together the said straps may be connected either to the pants or to the waist or to the part of the garment situated directly at the waist band as illustrated in the drawing.

My invention is highly advantageous in that an extremely simple and practical device is provided whereby drop seats may be easily and conveniently manipulated. With my invention the belt straps attached to the drop seat are guided while the drop seat is moved from closed to lowered position and vice versa. By means of the auxiliary straps the ends of the belt straps are held up, when the drop seat is lowered. The auxiliary straps and loops are completely concealed when the drop seat is in closing position. With my invention the usual difficulty of roping is entirely eliminated. By the use of the auxiliary belt straps large and inexpensive loops may be employed instead of more expensive specially constructed loops capable of guiding flat belt straps. A garment constructed in accordance with my invention is extremely neat and attractive in appearance and the various parts thereof remain improper position throughout the use of the garment at the same time giving the user freedom and comfort.

Changes in the specific form of my invention, as herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my inventiomwhat I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

' 1. A garment comprising a body having pants and a waist, and formed with an'opening at the rear, a drop seat covering said opening, belt straps connectedto said drop seat, means for connecting the ends of said belt straps together to cause said straps to fit about the waistline of the wearer, auxiliary straps attached to the belt straps and to the body and guides on' said drop seat with respect to which said auxiliary straps may slide during movement of the drop seat from closing to lowered position;

A garment comprising a body having pants and a waist and formed with an opening at the rear, a drop seat covering said opening, belt straps connected to said drop seat, means for connecting the ends of said belt straps together to cause said straps to fit about the waist line of the wearer, auxiliary straps attached to the belt straps and to the body and loops on said drop seat through which said auxiliary straps may slide.

4. A garment comprising a body having pants and a waist and formed with an opening at the rear, a drop seat covering said opening and having a waist band, belt straps connected to said drop seat and forming a continuation of said waist band, means for connecting the ends of.

5. A garment comprising a body having pants and a waist and formed with an opening at the rear, a drop seat covering said opening and having a waist band, belt straps connected to said drop seat and forming a continuation of said waist band, means for connecting the ends of said belt straps together to cause said straps to fit about the waist line of the wearer, auxiliary straps attached to the belt straps and to the body and loops attached to said drop seat at said waist band, and in proximity to the lateral edges of the drop seat, said auxiliary straps being slidable in said loops.

6. A garment comprising a body having pants and a waist and formed with an opening at the TI rear, a drop seat covering said opening, belt straps connected to said drop seat, means for connecting the ends of said belt straps together to cause said straps to fit about the waist line of the wearer, auxiliary straps attached to the belt straps and to the body at certain localities thereon, loops on said drop seat through which said auxiliary straps may slide, the location of attachment of the straps to the body and the location of said loops when the drop seat is in closing position being substantially coincident.

7. A garment comprising a body having pants and a waist and formed with an opening at the rear, a drop seat covering said opening, belt straps connected to said drop seat, means for connecting the ends of said belt straps together to cause said straps to fit about the waist line of the wearer, auxiliary straps attached to the belt straps and to the body and guides on said drop seat with respect to which said auxiliary straps may slide, the corresponding belt straps and auxiliary straps being substantially of the same length. i

8. A garment comprising a body having pants and a waist and formed with an opening at the rear, a drop seat covering said opening, belt straps connected to said drop seat, means for connecting theends of said beltstraps together to cause said straps to fit about the waist line of the wearer, auxiliary straps attached to the belt straps and to the body and loops on said drop seat through which said auxiliary straps may slide, said loops being concealed by said drop seat when the drop seat is in closing position.

9. A garment comprising pants formed with an opening at the rear, a drop seat covering said opening, means for supporting the pants upon the body of the wearer when the drop seat is lowered, belt straps connected to the drop seat, means for connecting the ends of the belt straps together, auxiliary straps connected to the belt straps and to the pants and loops on said drop seat through which said auxiliary straps may slide.

10. In a garment, a body comprising a waist and pants, the latter having a drop seat, the upper marginal portion thereof, in the closed position of said seat, being substantially coincident with the waist line of the garment, belt straps attached to said seat at its said upper marginal portion, said belt straps having means at their free ends for releasably connecting the same together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt strap, each auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to its respective belt strap at its free end and connected at the other end thereof to the body adjacent to the waist line thereof, guides secured to said upper marginal portion of said drop seat, one guide being provided for each auxiliary strap, each of said straps being threaded in its respective guide and cooperating j therewith to pull the drop seat upwardly into place and thus hold it when the belt straps are brought together about the body of the wearer, each guide and. the junction between its respective auxiliary strap and said body being relatively disposed to bring the same substantially into coincidence in the closed position of said drop seat.

11. In a garment, a body comprising a waist and pants, the latter having a drop seat, the

upper marginal portion thereof, in the closed position of said seat, being substantially coincident with the waist line of the garment, belt straps attached to said seat at its said upper marginal portion, said belt straps having means at their free ends for releasably connecting the same together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt strap, each auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to its respective belt strap at its free end and connected at the other end thereof to the body adjacent to the waist line thereof, guides secured to said upper marginal portion of said drop seat, one guide being provided for each auxiliary strap, each of said straps being threaded in its respective guide and cooperating therewith to pull the drop seat upwardly into place and thus hold it when the belt straps are brought together about the body of the wearer.

12. In a garment, a body comprising a waist and pants, the latter having a drop'seat, belt straps attached to said drop ,seat and having means for releasably connecting the, free ends thereof together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt, strap, each auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to its respective belt strap near its free end and connected at the other end to the body, guides secured to the drop seat, one guide being provided for each auxiliary strap, each of said straps being threaded in its respective guide and slidably cooperating therewith to pull the drop seat upwardly into place and thus hold it when the belt straps are brought together about the body of the wearer, each guide and the junction between its respective auxiliary strap and said body being relatively disposed so as to substantially coincide in the closed position of said drop seat.

13. In a garment, a body comprising a waist and pants, the latter having a drop seat, belt straps attached to said drop seat and having means for releasably connecting the free ends thereof together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt strap, each auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to its respective belt strap near its free end and connected at the other end to the body, guide means for said, auxiliary straps secured to the drop seat, said auxiliary straps cooperating with said guide means to bring the drop seat into place when the belt straps are brought together about the body of the wearer.

14. In a garment, a body including pants having a drop seat, belt straps attached to said seat and having means at their free ends for releasably connecting the same together at the front of the garment, auxiliary straps, one for each belt strap, each auxiliary strap being connected at one end thereof to its respective belt strap near its free end and connected at the other end thereof to the body, guides secured to the drop seat, one guide being provided for each auxiliary strap, each of said straps being threaded in its respective guide and slidably cooperating therewith to pull the drop seat upwardly into place and thus hold it when the belt straps are brought together about the body of the wearer.
