Description

I'll
Patented July 17, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT @FFNIE PALATE PLATE Hermann Kuhlmann and Herman August Kuhlmann, Berlin, Germany 5 Claims.
Our invention refers to castings being reproductions of part of the palate and fit for use as dental protheses.
Hitherto such castings have been produced mainly by first producing a positive plaster of Paris casting of the palate and thereafter making a reproduction of the surface of this casting by means of a plastic rubber composition or by pressing sheet metal into shape in contact therewith.
Obviously the reproduction of the palate obtained in this manner will not be as perfect as is desired in many cases.
According to the present invention we are enabled to produce castings being absolutely true reproductions of the palate so that we are in a position to produce palate plates which apply themselves to the palate surface so closely that no separate suction means are required to keep the plate in permanent contact with the palate.
In the production of true castings according to the present invention We use spongy gold being a plastic compressible material having a spongy or cellular character, which is available on the market under diiferent trade names.
In preparing palate plates according to our in vention we first produce an ordinary positive casting with plaster of Paris, stence or some other suitable plastic material as usual, and we then force the spongy gold by pressure onto the reproducing surface of the casting, compressing the spongy gold so as to expel the air included therein and to cause the particles of the metal to enter into and intimately apply themselves against all parts of the surface to be reproduced.
Obviously the reproductions thus obtained, which consist of formerly loose and spongy material compressed to form a solid body, can be reinforced by means of backings of higher resistivity such as solid gold, steel or ebonite plates etc.
The palate plates produced in this manner, are considerably truer than the reproductions formerly obtained, and will fit tightly on every point of the palate so that no separate sucking means need be provided.
Various changes may be made in the details disclosed in the specification without departing from the invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof.
We claim:-
1. As a new article of manufacture a palate plate comprising a phu'ality of layers, one of said layers being made from compressed spongy gold, the other layer comprising a reinforcing material.
2. As a new article of manufacture a palate plate comprising a plurality of layers, one of said layers being made from compressed spongy gold, the other layer comprising a solid gold plate united with and supporting said first layer.
3. As a new article of manufacture a palate plate comprising a plurality of layers, one of said layers being made from compressed spongy gold, the other layer comprising a steel plate united with and supporting said first layer.
4. As a new article of manufacture a palate plate comprising a plurality of layers, one of said layers being made from compressed spongy gold, the other layer comprising an ebonite plate united with and supporting said first layer.
5. A palate plate comprising a plurality of layers secured together, one of which constitutes a reinforcing layer, the other of which constitutes a palate conforming layer, said last mentioned layer consisting of compressed gold of the class comprising sponge gold and crystal gold.
