2 Claims.

This invention relates to toys and its general object is to provide a toy of the resonant type such as a drum and which includes removable interfitting sections forming a hollow container having corrugated faces to be scraped by suitable means such as a stick, pencil or the like to produce sound.

Another object of the invention is to provide a -toy of the character set forth, that can be used as a container for salable products, such as coffee,

candy and the like to promote the sales thereof, due to the fact that the container can be used as a toy after the products have been removed therefrom, as well as a lunch and pencil box or the like for school children.

A further object of the invention is to provide a toy in the form of a container including interfitting sections, with a handle held fixed thereto by the fitting association of the sections with 20 each other.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a toy of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in use and service.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accom- .panying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device which forms the subject matter of the present invention.

Figure 2 is a front view thereof.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 3--3 of Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a detail view of the handle and connecting means therefor.

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that my device includes a pair of substantially like sections 1 and 2 that are round in formation. Each of the sections is composed of disk shaped body portions which have formed therewith annular flanges 3 and 4. The section 2 is slightly smaller than the section 1 so that the flange 4 of the section 2 will fit within the flange 3 of the section 1 in a manner whereby the flanges are disposed in clamping association as best shown in Figure 3 of the drawing, and ,to provide a hollow resonant body or container.

gated bail 5 of rectangular formation as shown and the bail is held associated with respect to the container through the instrumentality of a strip of material that has formed thereon a barrel 6 to receive the bail for pivotal association therewith. The barrel 6 is of course straight, and extending from the barrel the strip of material is arranged to provide a curved portion '7 that has formed therewith a curved tongue 8 which is shaped to follow the curvature of the flanges, so that when the tongue is disposed between the flanges, the latter will hold the handle in clamped association with the container.

The disk shaped body portion of the section 1 is corrugated, and the corrugated portion which is indicated by the reference numeral 9 extends centrally and diametrically thereof for a portion of its diameter, as best shown in Figure 1. The corrugated portion 9 is rectangular in formation and terminates inwardly of the periphery of the body portion of the section 1. It will be noted that the corrugations decrease in size from one end of the corrugated portion to the other, upon inspection of Figure 3.

The body portion of the section 2 has arranged on its face a plurality of equi-distantly spaced curved ribs 10 which radiate from adjacent the center of the face and terminate adjacent the periphery thereof, as clearly shown in Figure 2. The ribs 10 are all curved in the same direction and not only add to make the device attractive, but are primarily designed to produce sound which is accomplished by scraping the same with suitable means such as a stick, pencil or the like, and as the container is hollow, it will be apparent that it will have resonant quality.

The corrugations 9 are likewise to be used in producing sound by scraping the same by suitable means as above set forth with respect to the ribs 10 but of course a continuous rumbling sound can be produced by the ribs 10 due to the circular formation thereof, while a stick, pencil or the like can be reciprocated across the corrugations 9.

From the above description and disclosure of the drawing, it will be obvious that I have provided a toy that is not only capable of producing sound, but likewise acts in the capacity as a container for use with salable products, such as coffee, candy and the like, and after the contents of the container have been removedtherefrom, it can be used as a sound producing toy as well as a lunch and pencil box or the like for school children.

It is thought from the foregoing description ed for interfitting association for securing the sections together to produce a hollow resonant container, a handle for said container, means connected with said handle and being curved to fit between the flanges for securing the handleto the container, and sound producing means formed on the body portions.

A device comprising a pair of sections including disk shaped body portions, annular flanges formed. with the body portions for disposal in interfitting association: with respect to each other to provide a hollow container, a handle for saidcontainef and including a bail, means pivotally' receiving said bail and shaped for disposal between the annular flanges for detachably' clamping the handle with respect to the container, and means formed on the body portions to be scraped for producing sound.
