tanks.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for releasing steam through a jet at or near the bottom of storage tanks.
A further object is to provide a shield encasing a. steam line so that the same is completely covered where the same passes through the fuel oil or petroleum in order that the fuel oil or petroleum may not come in contact with the heated steam line.
A still further object is to provide means for holding the steam line centrally within said casing.
It is common knowledge that storage tanks containing fuel oil and petroleum collect bottom sediment. This bottom sediment consists of a mixture of water, dirt, and other foreign substances together with the fuel oil or petroleum. It is also common knowledge that the longer these storage tanks stand the greater the necessity for the use of means for separating the fuel oil or petroleum from this bottom sediment.
In the heating of fuel oil or petroleum it has been the common practice to use certain chemicals in connection with the heating in order that the film sacks may be broken down releasing the fuel oil or petroleum and separating foreign substances and Water that may be held Within these film sacks formed in the bottom sediment in the tanks.
It is not the purpose of this invention to claim any particular chemical but to describe and claim a device for inexpensively and effectively separating this bottom sediment in order that water, dirt, and other foreign substances may be efliciently separated from the fuel oil or petroleum.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a vertical view of the device installed Within a tank.
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail view of Figure 1 showing the device with parts broken away.
By referring to the drawing it will be seen that there is provided a tank 1. This tank 1 contains fuel oils or petroleum. The device consists of a steam line 3 which is inclosed by a casing 4. An upper end 5 of the casing 4 is provided with a support web 6 for the purpose of holding the steam line 3 centrally within the casing 4. It will be seen that a lower end 7 of the casing 4 is provided with a sealed end 8 in order that no fuel oil or petroleum or water may get within an air chamber 9 formed between the steam line 3 and the interior of the casing.
It is important to prevent the oil from coming 79 in contact with the steam line 3. If the oil or petroleum is subjected to a relatively high degree of heat the same becomes discolored and starts to evaporate. This discoloring of the oil is ob jectionable in that the quality and grade of the oil is changed so that the same is not worth as much in the finished product. It is also desirable to prevent evaporation because this evaporation constitutes a total loss. By the use of the casing 4 covering the steam line 3, where the same 80 passes through the tank containing oil, a greater degree of heat is used and the process of reclaiming the oil is carried on with greater speed without the loss by evaporation and discoloration. A lower end 10 of the steam line 3 is provided with an elbow 11 which carries a steam jet 12.
In operating the device water is put into the tank 1 until the contents of the tank 1 is carried by the water above the lower end 7 of the casing 4. This is done in order that no fuel oil or petroleum will come directly in contact with the steam line 3.
It is understood that a plurality of these devices may be placed within a tank depending upon the size of the tank and the amount and thickness of 5 the sediment within the tank.
What I claim is:
1. In an oil reclaiming device, the combination of a storage tank for containing fuel oil or petroleum, together with a steam line extending downwardly into said tank, a casing inclosing the major upper portion of said steam line, a support web positioned on said steam line at upper end of said steam line and casing, an air chamber formed between said steam line and interior of said casing, a closed lower end of said casing, a steam jet positioned at extreme lower end of said steam line and below said casing.
2. In an oil reclaiming device, the combination of a storage tank for containing fuel oil or petroleum, together with a plurality of steam lines extending downwardly into said tank, a casing inclosing the major upper portion of each steam line, a support web positioned on each steam line at upper end of said steam line and easing, an air chamber formed between said steam lines and interior of said casing, a closed lower end of said casings, a steam jet positioned at extreme lower end of each steam line and below said casing.
3. In an oil reclaiming device, the combination of a storage tank for containing fuel oil or petroleum, together with a plurality of steam lines ex-
