Description

C. RAUB.
Cooking Stove.
' Patented March 16, 1858.
UNITED STATES PATENT oEEIoE.
CHRISTIAN RAUB. OF DAVENPORT, IOWA.
COOKING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 19,651, dated March 16, 1858.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN RAUB, of Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cooking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1, represents a perspective view of said stove. Fig. 2, represents a longitudinal vertical section through the same. Fig. 3, represents a horizontal cross section through the line 02, y.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A, represents the fire chamber of the stove. I
a, represents the grate which supports the fuel.
Z2, represents a damper for regulating the draft, and B, represents the ash box.
C, E, and F represent ovens.
The plate D, is formed with suitable holes (cl) like the top plate of a cooking stove for the reception of suitable vessels.
Gr, represents a conical or pyramidal coal spreader, which reaches partly within the charging trunk H. The spreader G, is formed at its base with apertures 71, through which the atmospheric air passes into the burning fuel.
I, represents two water chambers or boilers, which inclose the flue or trunk H, as represented in Fig. 3, and which are of equal length with the flue H. The water chambers are filled through pipes L, and the water can be drawn 01f by means of the cocks h.
The operation of this stove is as follows :The kindling material is entered through the aperture m, Fig. 1, and is placed upon the grate a. The cover 39 Fig. 2, is then raised and the coal is fed into the stove through the trunk H, and falls down upon the spreader G, by which it is spread over the entire surface of the grate a the fire being kindled, the atmospheric air enters the stove as indicated by arrows 0 and 2, and the heated gases pass through the flues which surround the ovens C, D, E, F,- as indicated by the arrows and eventually escape through pipe N. When the damper Z), is in the position represented in Fig. 2, a current of cold air enters the stove as represented by arrow u, this current can be shut off by pushing the damper farther inward thereby closing the flue 9, thus the temperature of the stove and amount of draft can be regulated by one and the same damper.
Having thus fully described the nature of my invention, what I claim therein as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1s- The arrangement of the feeding trunk and its water chambers in combination with the fire chamber, ovens and fiues for the escape of the gases of combustion substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
A CHRISTIAN RAUB.
