This invention relates to an improved safety device serviceable for use on any hand or power wringer, preferably the latter, including the main purpose for preventing all fabrics and especially 5 the finer ones from curling up over the top roller of the wringer and winding tight before it is possible to release the upper wringer roller.

Another purpose is to provide a device of this kind acting to prevent the operator's hand or M fingers from being caught between the rollers, when attempting to loosen the fabrics or clothes, or when feeding the clothes between the rollers.

In addition to preventing any person's hand being caught and mangled between the wringer rolls, it is another purpose to enable valuable silks and laces and similar articles of clothing to be fed between the wringer rolls, eliminating at all times the possibility of the clothes being iniured and buttons torn off as heretofore, by the 26) clothes curling up over the top roller.

A further purpose is the provision of a guard' arcuate in cross section operatively supported on the safety panel attached to the wringer in such wise as to conform to the cylindrical contour of the upper wringer roll for a distance almost one half or ninety degreesof the circumference of the roller, and so positioned that the lower edge of the guard may assume a position inflnitesimally close to a substantial lower part of the 30 upper wringer roller, and so between the rollers as to prevent the clothes from curling or winding up over the top of the upper roller. It is obvious that two of these guards or shieldsmay or are to be used in opposed positions at diametrical points of the upper wringer roll, on acting to guard against the fingers of any person, or any other object from being caught between'the wringer rolls, the other guarding against the clothes curling or winding up over the top of "the 40 upper wringer roll.

A still further purpose is to provide a guard including a channeled member electrically welded or otherwise secured longitudinally to the exterior cylindrical surface of the guard including a rubber safety device securely fastened in the channel, and guarding against the clothes winding or curling up over the top of the upper wringer roll, the tendency toward winding up being shown in Figure 2.

It is to be understood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitative, and that while still keeping within the scope of the invention, any desired modification of details and proportions may be made in the construction of the appliance according to circumstances.

Referring to the drawing 1 identifies a frame of a conventional type of wringer, especially the type where the upper wringer roll is releasable through the medium of tilting the safety lever 2 to one side or the other or rather rocking the same, and disposed on opposite sides of the upper wringer roller 3 are guards or shields 4, each of which is arcuate in cross section. The ends of each guard or shield are provided with ears or lugs 5 having openings 6 for the reception of fastening means such as screws or bolts 7 used for fastening the guard or shield securely to the 39 usual safety panels 8. Each guard is arranged to substantially conform to the cylindrical contour of the upper wringer roll. However the lower edge of each guard is arranged infinitesimally close to a substantial lower part of the upper wringer roll and for a substantial distance between both rollers as identified at 9, while the upper edge is slightly spaced from the surface of the upper wringer roller as shown at 10. By this arrangement the guard or shield prevents the clothes from adhering to the surface of the roller and winding and curling around and upon the upper part of the upper wringer roll as the clothes travel between the two rollers.

Fastened upon the exterior of each guard by electrical welding or otherwise and disposed longitudinally is a channel element 11 made of any suitable metal and of a length substantially equal to the length of the guard and of any width in the channel by any well known method, for example by vulcanizing or cementing is a rubber safety device 12, which as shown in Figure 2 acts as an abutment for the clothes. In other words should the clothes as they emerge from between the rollers tend to adhere to the surface of the upper wringer roll the clothes will strike against the rubber safety device, the lower edge of the shield or guard at 9 acting to previously scrape the clothes from the upper wringer roll, and

thereby prevent the clothes from winding or curling around and up over the upper wringer roll. It is also obvious that the lower edges of the guards or shields will reduce to a minimum the possibility of the fingers of any person, operator or otherwise, being caught between the upper and lower wringer rollers.

It is obvious that each guard and its channel may be made of any suitable metal preferably chrome steel.
