Description

F. F. WILBROT ATTACHABLE FEED FOR WRINGERS I Filed Jan. 5l. 1925 Patented Nov. 9, 1926..
UNITED STATES PATENT oFFIAcE.
` FRANK P. WILBROT, F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
ATTACHABLE FEED non WRINGERS.
Application filed January 31, 1925. Serial No. 5,960.
The invention seeks to simplify and improve the means for attaching an endless, apron feed to domestic wringers such as are mounted ontubs and small washing machines. It aims to present such an appliance in a form which may be readily accommodated to familiar forms of wringers without modification of the framing andy construction, arrangement and combination of parts will be more readily understood from the following description and from the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a wringer equipped with my invention.
Figure 2 is a front view of the wringer.
Figure 3 is a vertical section of the adjustable bearing and bracket.
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the last mentioned bracket. i
There is illustrated a wringer 10 of familiar construction, including two main frame uprights 11, between which extend the lower and upper rolls 12 and 13, which.
may be mounted and operated in anyl of the various ways familiar in the art. Uusually in these appliances the lower roller is on a fixed axis and they upper adjustable or yieldable to variousthicknsesses of materials passing between the rolls.
The uprights 11 inthe particular form of wringer shown are customarily formed of wood, but my device is also adaptable to metal frames as well.
Two brackets 14 are provided on one side of the wringer each comprising a stamping of sheet metal somewhat in the shape of an ordinary strap hinge with a butt part. That is to say, the outer part 15 of the bracket is somewhat Vsh'aped in the plan of the blank,
while a rectangular base 16 is formed thereon of the same width bent sharply at right angles tothe part 15,vapertured andcsecured to the wringer by screws 17. Near the extremity of the bracketa collar 18 is formed therein by extrusion, receiving a bushin 19 with 'a pressed fit. The nmedial longitudinal axis of the bracket is approximately horizontal. The width of the blank at the base 'preferably does not exceed the diameter of the roll ofthe wringer upon which the device is to be used, for a reason which will appear. Between the brackets 14 there is mounted-a roller 20 having trunnion's fitted to the bushings 18. This roller may be of metal or wood and-requires no special facing such as rubber or other cushion or elas- .tic material. The Width of the outer ends of ioaolo' the brackets is as much less than the diameter of the roller as practicable.
At the opposite side of the wringer, slotted brackets 21 are mounted similar in size and external measurements to the brackets 14. A' long-itudinal horizontal slot 22 is Aformed in each, extending from near the outer end 0f the bracket as shown in Figures 1 and 4, and. receiving slidably therein a bearing block 23 suitably grooved at top and bottom to receive therein lthe edge portionsof the bracket at the slot. It is desirable, in order to minimize the thickness of metal required in these brackets, that ai reinforcing flange 24 be formed on the upper edge and also one on the lower edge extending from the base or thereadjacent to near the outer end of the bracket. An integral ear 25 is struck outward from the bracket so as to form the inner end of the slot which ear is tapped and threaded to receive a tension screw bearing on the block 23. The ear 25 is struck from the blank in a size greater than the major vertical measure# ment of the bearing block 23, so that the latter may be inserted from one side through the enlargement of the slot thus formed at its inner end and then moved into the outer part'. The upper and lower side portions of the. face of the bracket toward the base, and
thus afford a buttress support for the thrust sustained by the ear when `the bolt bears against the block 23.
A roller 26 similar to the one 20 before mentioned is mounted in the blocks 23 of the last mentioned two brackets, and around these two rolls there is an endless belt or apron 27, the upper reach of which passes between the rolls 12-13 of the wringer, while the lower reach lies against the lower side of the lower roll of the wringer. Ordinarily in such wringers there are no framing or other elements projecting abovethe planes in which the lower reach ofthe apron moves.
The closing of the outer end of the slot prevents liability of inexperienced persons hooked thereon is minimized or eliminated.`
The use of such appliances generally is well understood, together with the advantages. ln my device, owing to the tact that wooden trame wringers have a fiat face on each oit the uprights, both at the receiving' and delivery sides.7 the attachment of my brackets is a simple matter. In installing my device, it is only necessary to liftout the rolls in the way familiar in such devices, insert the lower through my apron 27 and then replace them as usual; after which the rollers 20 and 26 are also inserted through the apron at respective sides of the vvringer and mounted in the brackets as indicated llt Will be seen that the brackets all lie between the planes of the upper and lovver reaches oic 4the apron so that there is a minimum liability of obstruction or abrasion ot Y fabrics.
accanto l claim:
1. As an improved article of manufacture,
a mounting bracket for an adjustable roller for endless belts comprising@T a sheet metal body portion having a base for attachment to a support, and an arm part at right angles thereto having a longitudinal slot in the outer part, an earg at right angles to the body struck outwardly from the body at the inner end ot the slot and of a width greater than that of the slot whereby the opening thus produced forms an enlargement of the slot, whereby to receive a bearingn block larger vertically than the outer part of the slot and grooved to receive the edges of the slot when moved thereinto from said enlargement, said ear being apertured to receive an adjusting screw therethrough.
2. The article of claim l in which the edges of the ear are bent oppositely from the slot and over the adjacent'body portion of the block in abutment therewith to form buttresses. A
ln testimony whereof l aiiix my signature.
