Description
June 5, 1934. P ,L L, NEMMERS 1,961,161
TOOTHBRUSH l Filed March 20, 19:53
pensing container of tooth paste or the like.
Patented June 5, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application March 20,
3 Claims.
My invention relates to an improvement in tooth brushes and has for one purpose the provision of a tooth brush which has associated with it a container for a tooth brush and also a dis- One object is the provision of a compact tooth brush and tooth paste unit. Another object is the provision of an improved tooth paste dispenser. Other objects will appear from time to time in the course of the specification and claims.
l I illustrate my invention more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawing, where- 1n- Figure 1 is a perspective view;
Figure 2 is a perspective view with the cover removed;
Figure 3 is an enlarged section taken along the line 3--3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a section along the line 4--4 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a section along the line 5-5 of Figure 3, illustrating the apertures out of alignment.
Like parts are indicated by like symbols throughout the specification and drawing.
Referring to the drawing, A generally indicates a container tube having a closed end A1 and a ferrule or lip A2 and Ventilating apertures A3.
B indicates an end portion or cover reduced as at B4 to t within said ferrule. The member B is in the form of a cylinder. At one end is the rotatable member B1 which is provided with an aperture B2 adapted to be aligned with an opposed aperture B3 in the member B. When the apertures B2 and B3 are aligned the interior of the device is then in communication with the exterior through the two apertures.
C. is a telescopic member with a. plunger head C3, telescoped within the member B. Its exposed end C1 is provided with thumb engaging ledges or notches C2 whereby it may be drawn out for re-iilling purposes. It may also be thrust inwardly toward the end of the device in order to expel tooth paste D1 or the like between the opposed ends of the members B and C. The cover B1 is preferably removable, herein shown as screwthreaded, whereby tooth paste or the like may be admitted to the space within.
D indicates any suitable tooth brush.
It will be realized that whereas I have described and shown a practical and operative device, nevertheless many changes might be made in the size, shape, number and disposition of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention. I therefore wish my description and drawing to be taken as in a broad sense illustrative and diagrammatic rather than as limiting me to my specic showing. i In particular, it will be understood that the dispensing aperture may be either on the side or on 1933, Serial No. 661,771 (Cl. 132-84) the end of the device and many such changes may be made.
The use and operation of my invention are as follows:
In the operation of the de'vice the user simply separates the member A or B and removes or shakes out the tooth brush D. By rotating the member B1 until the apertures B2 and B3 are aligned he makes it possible for an inward thrust upon the plunger or telescopic member C to squeeze out tooth paste which may be placed upon the brush.
Note that the plunger member C3 has a double function, in that it is the means for expelling the paste to be dispensed and that it also may be employed to enclose and center the tooth brush.
I claim:
l. As a new article of manufacture, a tooth brush container which includes two telescopic portions adapted to receive a tooth brush therewithin, one of said portions forming a tooth paste container, a plunger associated therewith, a closure for the end of said telescopic portion opposite to said plunger, said telescopic portion being provided with an outlet aperture, said closure being adapted normally to mask said outlet apern ture and means whereby said closure may be moved into aperture unmasking position.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a container adapted to receive a tooth brush, a closure for said container, said closure including a cylinder adapted to receive tooth paste and a plunger adapted to operate against the tooth paste within said cylinder, said cylinder being also provided with an outlet aperture in the side thereof, for the escape of tooth paste, and means for normally closing said aperture, including a rotatable cap at the end of the cylinder, said cap being removable to permit the insertion of tooth paste into said closure.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a container adapted to receive a tooth brush, a closure for said container, said closure including a cylinder adapted to receive tooth paste and a plunger adapted to operate against the tooth paste within said cylinder, said cylinder being also provided with an outlet aperture in the side thereof, for the escape of tooth paste, and means for normally closing said aperture, including a rotatable cap at the end of the cylinder, said cap being removable to permit the insertion of tooth paste into said closure, said plunger including a portion adapted to penetrate the container and to surround the tooth brush, said plunger including a hollow portion into which the tooth brush may penetrate.
PETER J. L. NEMMERS.
