My invention relates to improvements in collapsible tubes and includes the provlsion I believe for the first time of a iexible protective sheaf therefor and a novel type of c llspensing cap member which assists 1n holding the sheaf to the tube. A
Collapsible tubes when used to hold shaving cream, cosmetics, toothpaste, etc., do not at the present time present a very attractlve appearance.
An object of my invention therefore 11s to provide an ornamental protective sheaf therefor which will enhance the beauty of the collapsible tube Awhen used in miladys tollet or 16 bag. It is apparent that the sheaf alsoasslsts in protecting the walls of the tube whlch are often of very frangible material. I provlde an open lower end' so that the sheaf may be readily removed from or attached around the tube.
A further object of my invention is to provide a novel type of cap member for the tube which does not have to be completely unscrewed from the tub;` before the actual dispensing of the contentsthereof takes place, but which has a portion which lmay be detachably secured around the nozzle and a portion rotatable thereon so that on a mere" half or total revolution of said rotatable portion the contents of the tube may be readily dispensed. y
These and such other objects lof my invention as 'may hereinafter appear will be best understood from a description of an embodiment thereof such as is shown in the accompanying drawing. n
In the drawing, Fig. 1 isa perspective view of a collapsible tube having my invention attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a disassembled perspective view of the various component parts of my invention, showing the usual collapsible tube-cap being removed from the collapsible tube, the sheaf in the position# it will take around the collapsible tube and my improved cap member in the position it will take when attached to tha nozzle.
Fig. 3 isa sectional view of an end of -the collapsible tube showing the two portions of my improved cap member relatively rotated so that the openV portions thereof Willbe in alignment to permit dispensing of the contents ofthe tube.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view generall similar to Fig. 3, but with Ithe portions ofy the cap u rotated to seal the tube to prevent dispensing of the contents thereof.

Said tube 10 is normally provided with a central dispensing nozzle 12 usually externally threaded as at 14 and said tube 10 65 normally has the cap 16 for closin the same which is suitably internally threa ed s o that it may be threaded onto the threads 14 on the exterior of the nozzle 12.
I provide a protective sheaf 18 for said 7 tube. Said protective sheaf 18 includes the rigid top member 20 having a central nozzle opening 21 and adapted to abut the top of the tube 10 exterior of said nozzle 12 and a protective sheaf portion-22 of flexible material, 75 preferably woven wire or link mesh although it is obvious that any suitable type of protective, flexible ornamental material may be employed, enclosing the sides of said tube` and open as at 23 at its lower end for insertion of 3 the tube therein.v
I also preferably provide in association with said protective shea'f 18 a dispensing ca member 24 which includes a portion 26 pre erably internally threaded as at 28 adapted 85 to be permanently threaded on to the external threads 14 of said nozzle 12 and preferably arranged as shown in Figs, 3 and 4 to have the lower end 30 thereof about the top sheaf member 20 around said nozzle 12 to secure said sheaf to said tube. ySaid threaded member 26 is also preferably provided with a dispensing slot 32 in the side wall 34 thereof above said nozzle 12 when said member vis threaded thereon. Said cap member 24 also includes the member 36 having the side walls 38 adapted to surround said threaded portion 26 rotatably secured to said threaded portion in any desired manner preferably by means of the rivet 39 insertable fromy inside said have the head 44 on theI inside thereof so as to permit the end "46 to be countersunk in the '5f outer -surface 48 of said rotatable member,
Said rotatable member has ortions 50 of the side wall thereof opento ispense the contents of the collapsible tube 12 throughthe channel 52 formed when the open portion f l 50 of the side wall 38 of the rotatable portion 36 is brought into alignment with the slot 32 in the threaded portion 26.
To attach my invention to an ordinary collapsible tube as shown in Fig. 2, I first remove the usual cap 16 therefrom and insert the tube, the nozzle end uppermost within the protective sheaf 22 through the open lower end 23 until the nozzle 12 thereof pro'trudes through the central nozzle opening 21, the cap member 24 is then suitably secured to 'said nozzle by threading it on the threads 14 of said nozzle until the lower end thereof abuts the ri id top member 2O of said sheaf 18 when sai lower end 30 will function to securely bind the sheaf 18 to said tube. When it is desired to dispense the contents of the tube, the rotatable member36 is merely rotated relative to said threaded member 26 until an open portion of the side wall 38 thereof is brought into alignment with the dispensing slot 32 in said threaded portion when on suitable squeezing of the tubegas shown in Fig. l the contents 25 of the tube will .fiow therefrom.
It is thus -apparent that I have provided a novel type of protective sheaf or covering for collapsible tubes which not only protects it but enhances the ornamental appearance thereof with a novel type of cap member, the cap member functioning to secure in addition the sheaf to said tube.
It is understood that my invention is not limited to thspecific embodiment shown and that various deviations may be made therefrom without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
W'hat I claim is:
LA device for use with a collapsible tube having an externallyT threaded central dispensing nozzle on the upper end thereof, comprising a protective sheaf for said tube comprising a rigidtop member having a central nozzle opening and adapted to abut the top of said tube exteriorly of said nozzle and a member of flexible material attached to said vtop member and adapted to enclose the sid/es /for portion rotatably secured to said threaded portion having a portion of side wall thereof open to dispense the contents of the collapsib e tube through the channel formed when the o en portion of the side wall of the rotata le portion is brought into alignment with the slot in the threaded portion.
2. A- device for use with a collapsible tube having an externally threaded central dispensing nozzle on the upper end thereof, comprising a protective sheaf for said tube comprising a rigid top member having a central nozzle openlng and adapted to abut the top of said tube exteriorly of said nozzle and a member of woven wire attached to said top member and adapted to enclose the sides of said tube and having an open lower end for insertion of the tube therein and a cap member for said tube comprising an internally threaded portionadapted to be threaded onto said nozzle to have the lower end thereof abut the top sheaf member around said nozzle to secure said sheaf to said tube, said portion having a 'dispensing slot in the side thereof above said nozzle and a portion having a side wall surrounding said threaded portion rotatably secured to said threaded portion having a portion of the side wall thereof open to dispense the contents of the collapsible tube through the channel formed when the open portion of the side wall of the rotatable portion is/brought into alignment with the slot in the/ threaded portion. v
3. ,A device for use with a collapsible tube having an externally threaded central dispe/nsing nozzle on the upper end thereof, comprising a protectivesheaf for said tube comrising a rigid top member having a central nozzle opening and adapted to abut the top of said tube exteriorly of said nozzle and a member of flexible material attached to said top member and adapted to enclose the sides of said tube and having an open lower end for insertion of the tube therein and a cap member for said tube comprising an internally threaded portion adapted to be threaded onto said nozzle, said portion having a dispensing slot in the side thereof above said nozzle and a portion having a side wall surrounding said threaded portion rotatably secured to said threaded portion having a portion of the side wall thereof open to dispense the contents of the collapsible tube through the channel formed when the open portion of the side wall of the rotatable portion is brought into alignment with the slot in the insertion of the tube therein and a cap m/em-/t-heded Dort-i011- ber for said tube comprising an inter ally threaded portion adapte\d\ o be thre/aded i onto said nozzle to havethe low ngidKtliereof abut the top sheaf member ardund said nozzle to secure `said sheaf to said tube, said cap member having a dispensing sldt in the side thereof above said nozzle and a portion 4. device for use with a collapsible tube having an externally threaded central dispensing nozzle on the upper end thereof, comprising a protective sheafl for said tube comprising a rigid top member having a central nozzle opening and adapted to abut the top of said tube exteriorly of said nozzle and a exible metallic member attached to said top member and adapted to enclose the vsides of said tube and having an open lower end for insertion of the tube therein and a cap meml ber for said tube comprising an lnternally threaded portion adapted to be threaded onto said nozzle said portion having a dispersing slot in the side thereof above said nozzle and a ortion having a side wall surrounding said tl readcd portion rotatably secured to said lthreaded portion, Vsaid portion havinga por tion of the side wall thereof open to dispense the contents of the collapsible tube through the channel formed when the open portion of the side wall of the rotatable portion is brought. into alignment with the slot in the threaded portion.

A protective sheaf adaptedlto receive and enclose a collapsible tube, comprising a rigid top member having` a central nozzle opening adapted to abut the top of said tube exteriorly of its nozzle and a member of freelv fiexible material attached to said cap member `of a size and shape to compactly enclose the sides of said tube and having an open lower end for insertion of the tube therein.

A protective sheaf adapted toreceive and enclose a. collapsible tube. comprising a a0 rigid top member having a central nozzle opening adapted to abut the top of said tube exteriorly of its nozzle and a member of freely flexible metallic material attached to v said' cap member, of a size and shape to com- 85 pactly enclose the sides of said tube and having an open lower end for insertion of the tube therein.
7 A device for use with a collapsible tube having a central dispensing nozzle in the up- 40 per end thereof. comprising a protective sheaf for said tube, comprising a rigid top member having a central nozzle opening adapted to abut the top of said tube exteriorlv of. said nozzle and a member of-iiex ible material attached to said top member and adapted to enclose the sides of said tube and havina an open lower end for insertion of the tube therein and a cap member for said tube comprising a. portion adapted to be attached on to said nozzle to -have the lower end thereof Iabut the top sheaf member around said nozzle to secure said sheaf to said tube, said portion having adispensing slot in the side thereof above said nozzle and a dispensing cap having a side wall surrounding said portion rotatably secured to said portion, said rotatable portion also having a portion of the side wall thereof open `to dispense the contents of the collapsible tube through the channel formed when the open portion of the side wall of the rotatable portion is brought into alignment with the slot in the slotted portion.
