The present invention relates to a dishwashing machine which is designed particularly for household use and has for some of its objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight and which may be manufactured at low cost.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a dishwasher of the aforementioned character embodying a novel construction, combination and arrangement through the medium of which rattling and breaking of the dishes being washed will be prevented.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:-
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a dishwashing machine constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a view in end elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a view in vertical longitudinal section through the machine.
Fig. 4 is a detail view in side elevation of the basket.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention illustrated comprises a container which is designated generally by the reference numeral 1, said container being substantially rectangular in top plan and open at its top. The container 1 is provided with a substantially semicircular bottom, said bottom and the major portions of the side walls being corrugated, as at 2. The end walls 3 of the container 1 are provided with supporting 1 feet 4 having pads 5 thereon. At its top, the container 1 is provided, on its sides and ends, with rolled edges 6.
The reference numeral 10 designates generally a removable basket which is mounted for oscillation in the container 1. The basket 10 includes a horizontal supporting shaft 11 having its end portions journalled in bearings 12 which are provided therefor on the end walls 3 of the container l.
The basket 10 further includes metallic end 1932, Serial No. 636,235
A plurality of coiled .springs 18 extend be.- tween the end walls 13 of the basket 10. Coiled springs 18 are mounted in position through the medium of hooks 19 on their ends which are engageable in inwardly pressed channels or grooves 20 through openings or slots 21 in the end walls 13 of the basket 10. If desired, more of the openings or slots 21 than springs 18 may be provided in order that said springs 18 may be adjusted or shifted as desired in the basket. Except for the openings 21, end walls 13 are solid.
In using the device the desired quantity of water is placed in container 1 and the basket 10 is oscillated. The coil springs 18 are so designed and arranged in the basket to firmly hold the dishes in upright position in spaced relation to one another, while the basket is being oscillated to prevent rattling and breaking during washing. The dishes held in this position permit free flow .5,. of water between them thereby cleaning the entire surface of the dishes fully and rapidly. The coil springs being flexible and resilient permits slight movement of the dishes during the oscillation of the basket to induce and permit free flow of water between the dishes. After the dishes have been washed they may be conveniently drained by simply lifting the basket 10 out of the container 1.
It is believed that the many advantages of a dish washing machine constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details 99 of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:--
1. A dishwashing machine comprising a container for the reception of water, a substantially foraminous basket mounted for oscillation in the container, said basket including a supporting shaft and end walls, mounted on the support- .9
ing shaft, said end walls having inwardly pressed grooves therein and further having openings therein communicating with the grooves, and coiled springs traversing the basket, said coiled springs including hooked ends extending through the openings and detachably engaged in the grooves of the end walls of said basket.
2. A dishwashing machine comprising a container for the reception of water, a basket mounted in the container, said basket having grooves therein and further having openings therein adjacent the grooves, coil springs traversing the basket, and hooks on the ends of the coil springs extending through the openings and engaged in the grooves for detachably mounting said coil springs in the basket.
3. A dishwashing machine comprising a container for the reception of water, said container being open at its top and including bottom, side and end walls, bearings mounted in the container on the end walls, a removable foraminous basket mounted for oscillation in the container, a horizontal supporting shaft for said basket journalled in the bearings, the basket having end walls fixed on the shaft,'a reinforcing tube mounted on the shaft and extending between the basket end walls, said end walls projecting above the container and including inturned marginal flanges, said end Walls having flattened upper portions, handles mounted on the flattened upper portions of the basket end walls, said basket further including a foraminous sheet extending between its end walls and constituting the bottom and sides of said basket, and coiled springs extending between the end walls of the basket.
4. A dishwashing machine comprising a container for the reception of Water, bearings on the confronting faces of opposed walls of said container, an oscillating dish holding basket including end walls and foraminous sides, a shaft extending through the basket upon which said end walls are mounted, said shaft having the ends thereof projecting free of said end walls and removably journaled in said bearings, a tubular reinforcing member surrounding said shaft and extending between the confronting faces of the end walls of the basket, and a plurality of coil springs extending between the end walls of the basket and detachably connected to said end walls.
5. A dishwashing machine comprising a container for the reception of water, hearings on the confronting faces of opposed walls of said container, an oscillating dish holding basket including end walls and foraminous sides, a shaft extending through the basket upon which said end walls are mounted, said shaft having the ends thereof projecting free of said end walls and removably journaled in said bearings, a tubular reinforcing member surrounding said shaft and extending between the confronting faces of the end walls of the basket, and a plurality of coil springs extending between the end walls of the basket and detachably connected to said end walls, and said end walls provided with integral attaching means for the coil springs to accommodate shifting the position of the coil springs.
