Description

L. S. BROWN. Nut-Looks for fish-bars on railways.
No. 195,880. Patented Oct. 9, I877.
I VIII! Wnuddd. I M
m /ea i gig N. PEIERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS S. BROWN, OF LYNDON STATION, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN NUT-LOCKS FOR FISH-BARS ON RAILWAYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,880, dated October 9, 1877 application filed May 17, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lnwrs S. BROWN, of Lyndon Station, county of Ross, and State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Nut-Locks, of which the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification, wherein are set forth the nature and principles of the invention, by which the same may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts thereof as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States.
My invention relates to that class of devices which are made use of for fastening a boltnut in place upon the fish-bars of railways to prevent its becoming loosened by the shock of the passing trains; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the details of the construction of the same, hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, in which corresponding parts are designated by the same letters, Figure 1 is a side elevation of railway-rails having my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a transverse section. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the locking-bar.
In the said drawings, A A designate railway-rails. B is a combined chair and fishplate extending underneath and on the sides of the rails. O are longitudinalbars arranged between the sides of B and the rails. D D D D are bolts which pass through openings cut in the rails A A, the fish-plate B, and the bars 0 G, and are secured in position by the nuts E. H designates the locking-bar, which is provided with a longitudinal aperture, a, and lug b, which passes through an opening, d, in the fish-plate B. I
The locking-bar is secured in position by the eye c, attached to the fish-plate B, which passes through the said 10cking-bar, and is secured in place by a pin.
The nuts E are thus locked firmly in position, and prevented from becoming loose by the jarring motion of the passing trains.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The combination of railway-rails AA, combined chair and fish-plate B, extending underneath and on the sides of the rails, longitudinal bars 0 C, arranged between the sides of the fish-plates and the rails, bolts D, nuts E, and locking-bar H, provided with a longitudinal aperture, a, as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of April, 187 7.
LEWIS S. BROWN.
