BARBER CHAIR ATTACHMENT Filed June 15, 1932 Patented May 15, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention relates to barber chair attachments, and the primary object thereof is to provide an attachment more particularly for the arm of the chair and which contains a supply of different types of face lotions, that are readily dispensed by a mere upward movement of the hand of the barber so that the latter may apply the lotion to the face of the customer Without moving away from the chair.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this type which can be bodily substituted for the usual arm rest of the chair.
The invention further aims to provide a device of this type which is of simple and economical construction which can be easily and quickly applied to position and operated.
In the drawing:
Fig. l is a side elevation of the invention applied to a barbers chair, the latter shown in fragment;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view partly broken away;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on line 33 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. l of another form of the invention.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a container 1 is employed having laterally projecting longitudinal flanges 2 at its top to engage with the flanges 3 of a sliding cover 4, the flanges 3 being bent to engage about the flan es 2 whereby to afford a slidable mounting for the cover. The interior of the container is provided with a series of compartments 5, 6, and '7 adapted to contain face lotions or water. The
bottom of the container has a pair of arms 8 and 9 rigidly secured thereto, the arms being curved and received between the usual lugs 10 and 11 respectively, common to barber chairs and being attached in position by means of the usual bolts 12. The compartments may be lined with glass as shown in Fig. 3 or the entire container may be formed of glass as desired. As depicted in Fig. 3 the compartments have outlets 13 surrounded by a valve casing 14 which is threaded into engagement with the container 1 and which has a valve seat 15 for a loose ball valve 16 which latter is tensioned by a coil spring 17. The stem 18 for unseating the valve is slidable in the casing and through a closure 19 threaded into engagement with the casing. The closure 19 has outlets 20 surrounding the stem 18 while the latter has a stop 21 to engage the closure and restrict downward movement of the stem. The stem has a hand engaging disk or member 22 on its outer end. In this form of the invention the usual arm of the chair is removed and the arms 8 and 9 of the present invention are applied to the chair in the position occupied by the usual arm of the chair, so that the instant invention affords a substitute for the original arm.
In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 4 the container is provided with attaching lugs 31 for engagement with L-shaped clips 32 which latter are suitably connected to the under side of the usual arm A of the chair, the lugs being attached to the clips by bolts 33. In this form of the invention the various compartments of the container are equipped with filling inlets closed by caps 34, the valve structure 35 being identical with that illustrated and described in connection with Figs. 1, 2, and 3.
What is claimed, is:
1. A barber chair attachment for substitution of the usual arm of the chair including a liquid container shaped to aiiord an arm rest for the chair, a sliding cover for the container forming the arm rest proper, manually operable dispensing means projecting downwardly from the container, and a pair of arms secured to the container at the respective ends thereof and formed to be connected to the chair by the securing means of the usual arm of the chair.
2. In combination with a pair of spaced attaching means for the arm of a barbers chair, a liquid container shaped to form an arm for the chair and having a top providing an arm rest, manually operable dispensing means projecting outwardly from the container, a pair of arms secured to the container at the respective ends thereof and means to secure the arms of the container to the respective arm attaching means of the chair.
3. In combination with a pair of spaced attaching means for the arm of a barbers chair, a liquid container shaped to form an arm for the chair and having a top providing an arm rest, manually operable dispensing means projecting outwardly from the container, and means connected to the container and secured to each of the arm attaching means for holding the container in position.
4:. A barber chair arm rest including a liquid container having a plurality of compartments, manually operable dispensing means for the compartments projecting downwardly from the container, means for attaching the container to a barber chair at a side thereof to provide an arm for the chair, a closure for the top of the container formed to provide an arm rest, said closure being common to all of the compartments, and means to movably connect the closure to the container whereby to gain access to all of the compartments for refilling the latter.
