The invention, generically considered, involves a lamp hanger having an eccentrically pivoted lamp-sustaining ring which may be tilted to conveniently receive the bowl of a lamp, and which automatically returns to and remains in its normal horizontal position.

Many old-type hangers have been constructed of such size and design that a solid ring, rigidly supported, is used for the lamp, and the clearance in the hanger between the shade support, or other parts of the hanger, was such that the lamp could be raised above the lamp supporting ring and then lowered and set into the ring. When this is done, however, the hanger is of necessity much longer and undesirable in many ways, and to overcome this a collapsible lamp band support, which could be opened so that the lamp may be inserted from below and the ring then drawn together and locked, with the lamp seated in the ring, has been used.

These collapsible type rings are expensive and not entirely satisfactory, as there is sometimes diiculty in operating the look.

The hanger disclosed herein is novel in that it includes a solid lamp band ring which is pivoted at tvvo eccentric positions so that it can be tipped to facilitate the entrance of the bowl of the lamp, and which automatically rights itself because of the eccentricity of the pivotal points. This feature makes it very simple to enter or remove a lamp bowl from the ring, and in addition, makes it possible to tip the lamp band degrees or to the same plane as the side rods of the hanger in order to lessen the space required for packing,

' when the hanger is shipped.

The means of supporting the shade band is also new. The screws which connect the band with the vertical rods of the hanger are longer than necessary, so that the nuts on the end of the screws may be loosened to permit the shade band to be tilted to 90 degrees or to the same plane as the hanger. It is thus possible to ship the hanger with both the lamp band and the shade band in the fiat. When in use, however, the shade band is secured in position by tightening the nuts of the retaining screws and is always at right angles to the upright rods. The lamp band, however, can still be tilted whenever it is desired to remove the lamp bowl from or place it within the band.

Figure 1 shows the hanger in elevation;

Figure 2 shows a side elevation of the hanger, with the lamp-bowl ring and shade-holding band tilted for packing;

The lamp hanger includes a frame 1 having, at its upper end, supporting means 2 and a pendent bell 3.

The lower ends la, la of the frame 1 each carry a fixed clip 4 having an upstanding ear 5 which sustains a pivot 6 for the lamp-supporting ring 7, said pivot 6 being eccentrically disposed with reference to said ring 7, so that said ring 7 will be automatically tilted by gravity from an inclined to and remain in its normal horizontal position after a lamp bowl has been placed therein. The body of the clip 4 acts as a stop for said ring 7 when it has moved to either a vertical or a horizontal position.

The shade band 8, on diametrically opposite sides thereof, is provided with recesses 8a which receive the sides of the frame 1, and, extending through said sides and said shade band 8, are screws 9 having nuts 10 of such length that, when said nuts 10 are loosened, said shade band 8 may be tilted t0 a vertical position.

When the lampsupporting ring 7 and the shade band 8 are both turned to a vertical position, the parts of the hanger Will all be disposed in substantially the same plane, and the hanger will be ready for packing and shipment.

The shade band is provided with the usual shade-supporting elements 11.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A lamp and shade-supporting hanger provided at its lower end with an eccentrically-pivoted lamp-supporting ring and with a stop for said ring when it has turned either to a horizontal or a vertical position, and near its upper end with a shade-supporting band.

2. A lamp and shade-supporting hanger provided at its lower end with an eccentrically-pivoted lamp-supporting ring and with a stop for said ring when it has turned either to a horizontal or a vertical position, and near its upper end with a tiltable shade-supporting band, whereby said hanger may be collapsed for packing.

3. A lamp and shade-supporting hanger provided at its lower ends with fixed stops having ears and a lamp-supporting ring eccentrically pivoted on said ears, and also provided near its upper end with a tiltable shade-supporting band,
