This invention relates to bed lamps and more particularly to a lamp which is so constructed that it can be readily mounted on any conventional bed structure.
object of this invention is to provide an im proved lamp frame which can be covered or protected by any desired covering, and which includes means whereby the lamp can be supported from the bed in any desired angle so as to proi ct light rays at the desired point.
Another object of this invention is to provide an exceedingly simple lamp frame structure which can be constructed from wire and which will not inj any parts of the bed when in applied vantages of this invention will in part be described and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodim nt, the same being illustrated in the acing drawing wherein:-

Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts th oughout the several views, the numeral d gnates generally one end of a bed such as the of a bed, which is provided with a top rail or bar 13. This portion of the bed is shown only mentary form and merely for the purposes rnustration as the lamp structure hereinafter described may be used on any conventional bed structure.

The front frame member 11 comprises a top bar 1.6, end members 17 disposed on an oblique angle to the top bar 16 and a lower bar 18, which in the present nstance, constructed on a curve although this member 18 may be constructed in any desired configuration. The rear frame 12 comprises top bar 19 constructed similar to the top bar 16 of the front frame, end members 20 disposed obliquely to the length of the top bar 19 and the lower or divergent ends of the end members 2e are connected together by means of a straight connecting bar 21.
A lower connecting member 22 is disposed one at each end of the frame and connects the lower portions of the front and rear frames 11 and 12, respectively. This lower end frame member 22, as shown in the drawing, is constructed on a curve but may be constructed of any desired configuration.
In order to support a socket 23 carrying a lamp or bulb 24. within the frame hereinbefore described, I have provided a bracing member 25 having a loop 26 integral therewith, which engages about a nipple 23 carried by the socket 23. A frame adjusting member, generally designated as 2'? engages the lower bar 21 of the rear frame 12 and in the present instance, this adjusting member is constructed of a single piece of wire or material comprising a bed engaging member or bar 28 and divergent bars 29 secured one to each end of the bar 28. The bars 29 each have an eye 30 integral therewith which engages about the connecting bar 21 of the frame 12 and this eye 30 is of such a construction that the adjusting member 27 can be swung into any desired angular relation relative to the rear frame 12 and will thereby hold the lamp frame in its adjusted position. As shown in Figure 2, the adjusting member 25' is disposed with the bar 28 uppermost or on an acute angle to the rear frame 12 and in this position, is holding t - e frame members 11 and 12 in a position forwardly of the end of the bed 10 so that the light opening in the lower portion of the frame will permit the projection of the light rays to the desired point forwardly of the bed frame. In Figure 1, the frame is shown as being covered by material such as a fabric, this material being shown in dotted lines.
By constructing the adjusting member 27 in the form of a substantially U-shaped member with the two legs thereof divergent, the eyes 30 of this member can be made to frictionally engage the bar 21 to the desired degree by merely spreading l1 and 12 so the free ends of the member 2'7. As shown in the drawing, the front and rear frame members 11 and 12 may each be constructed of a single piece of wire which is formed into a loop and the ends of the wire welded or otherwise secured together so as to form a continuous loop. The connecting points of the other portions of the frame one with another can also be welded or otherwise secured together so as to provide a relatively rigid frame structure which is light in weight and about which any desired material might be positioned so as to provide the desired shade.
In the use of this device, the lamp structure hereinbefore described may be mounted on the top rail or top of the bed 13 by placing the hooks 14 over the top rail 13 and the rear portion of the lamp frame will gravitatingly engage the rear wall 10 of the bed structure. In this position, the light opening at the bottom of the lamp frame will be directed vertically and downwardly, but if it is desired to have the light rays projected forwardly, the adjusting member 27 which in Figure 1 is shown in inoperative position may be swung rearwardly toward the end 10 of the bed and the lower portion of the lamp frame swung forwardly. This adjusting member will frictionally hold the lamp frame in the various positions which may be desired, and while this member 27 is shown as being positioned upwardly in Figure 2, this member 27 can also be swung downwardly and can be adjusted as may be desired in this downward position relative to the lamp frame.
It is, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
What is claimed is:-
l. A lamp as set forth comprising a frame, means for supporting a light socket in the frame and a U-shaped member frictionally engaging the frame and adapted to engage a portion of a support to hold the lower portion of the frame in adjusted position relative to the support, said member having eyes on the free ends frictionally engaging the frame at all times, the free legs of the member being bent outwardly to increase the frictional engagement of said eyes on the frame.
2. A lamp as set forth comprising a frame including front and rear frame sections, means for securing these sections in spaced relation to each other, means for supporting a light socket in the frame and a U-shaped adjusting member engaging one of the frame sections to hold the frame in adjusted position relative to a supporting member, said U-shaped member having eyes on the ends of the two legs thereof frictionally engaging at all times about one portion of one of the frame sections, the free legs of said adjusting member being bent outwardly to increase the frictional engagement of said eyes on the frame whereby said eyes will hold said adjusting member at all times in adjusted position.
3. A lamp as set forth comprising a frame, a U-shaped frame engaging member secured to the lower rear portion of the frame and swingable above or below said lower portion of the frame to hold the frame in outstanding position relative to a support, said U-shaped member including a pair of eyes secured to the free ends thereof and frictionally engaging the lower portion of the frame to hold said U-shaped member in adjusted position relative to the frame.
4. A means for holding a depending and vertically swingable lamp frame in outstanding position relative to the support for the lamp frame, comprising a U-shaped member and means on the free ends of the member and engaging the frame below the top thereof to swingably secure the member to the frame, the bight of the member being free of the frame and swingable relative to the frame in a manner to permit engagement by the member with the support at any selected point above, below or coplanar with the point at which the member is attached to the frame.
