1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in saw filing machines and more particularly to a novel holder for the saw. The principal object of this invention is to provide a saw holder especially adapted for use in conjunction with the machine disclosed in my copending application Serial No. 531,773, which was led April 21, 1931, and of which the present application is a division.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevational View of the novel carrier.
Figure 2 represents a top plan view of the carrier.
Figure 3 represents a vertical sectional view through the carrier showing one form of saw clamp.
Figure 4 represents a side elevational view of the saw clamp shown in Figure 3.
Figure 5 represents a fragmentary side elevational view of the carrier at the intermediate portion thereof.
Figure 6 represents a perspective View of the adjustable saw saddle.
Figure 7 represents a sectional view taken substantially on line 7 7 of Figure 1.
Figure 8 represents a fragmentary perspective view of the carrier showing one of the stirrups.
Figure 9 represents a vertical sectional View through the carrier showing a modified saw holder attachment especially adapted for hack saws.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the carrier consists of a pair of bar sections 5-5 each of which has an outstanding stirrup 6 thereon and projecting from the same side thereof, each'stirrup consisting of a pair of bosses a--a connected by a pin b.
One inner end of the bar has the recess 7 therein while the complementary bar end has a projection 8 thereon and a plate 9 riveted to the inner ends of the bars 5-5 as at 10 has an arm 11 depending therefrom and provided with a longitudinally extending slot 12.
As is clearly shown in Figure 3, as well as in Figure 4, a saw holder is provided for each section 5 and each saw holder comprises a pair of spring members 13-1'3, each provided with a longitudinally extending slot 14 therein, the members 13-13 being riveted together at their lower ends as at 15. The upper ends of the members 13 are provided with outwardly disposed hook members 16 for engagement with a pair of the bars of the type of carrier unit disclosed in Figures 1 and 2, these hooks 16 being engageable with the stirrups 6.
Extending through the slots 14 of each of the aforementioned saw holders (see Figures 3 and 4) is a bolt 17 equipped with a nut 18 and, ob- @c viously, by tightening this nut 18 on the bolt, a clamping action of the members 13-13 can be secured against the saw 19 to be sharpened. The members 13-13 are preferably of spring metal.
For holding a hack saw, a slightly different type of holder is employed as shown in Figure 9, the same consisting of an elongated member 20 provided with a longitudinally extending slot 21 therein. The upper end of the. member 2c is provided with an offset portion 22 and a backwardly disposed hook member 23 for engagement with the stirrup 6 of the corresponding bar section 57 of the carrier shown in Figure 2.
For supporting the saw in conjunction with the member 20, there Vis provided a plate meinber 24 having a laterally disposed and reduced lug 25. The plate proper 24 has an opening 26 therein for receiving a bolt 27 which is disposed through the aforementioned slot 21,l and while the lug 25 engages in the slot 21, a nut 28 on the bolt 27 can be fed inwardly on the bolt and against the plate 24 which is in turn clamped against the back formation 29 of the hack saw 30 (see Figure 9).
The same type of support can be used on the intermediate member 11 for engaging the saw 19.
This particular type of carrier is especially adapted for use in conjunction with the machine disclosed in my copending application Serial No. 531,773.
While the foregoing specication sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size, and material may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is:
A saw carrier of the character described comprsing a supporting bar, stirrups on the bar, and depending saw clamps supported by said stirrups, said saw clamps each consisting of a pair of elongated members, each provided with a hook at its upper end for engaging with a corresponding stirrup, and means between the elongated members whereby said members can be clamped against a saw disposed between the same.
