I have filed an application in France on the 5th November, 1930 and on the 12th February, 1931.
The present invention relates to devices for the regulation or adjustment of receiving sets for wireless waves, and more particularly to a device for facilitating such adjustment. For this lastnamed purpose it has already been proposed to indicate the positions which it is necessary to give to the control member proper by the aid of detachable tickets or labels each bearing the name the variations which may be introduced into the distribution of the various wave lengths.
However, the carrying out of this known idea in practice presents numerous difficulties, as a consequence of which all the hitherto known devices based upon the principle above set forth have not proved successful.
According to the invention it is proposed to employ detachable labels of a particular form which are very economical as regards cost, together with supporting members rigidly connected with the moving part of the control member, the said supporting members being arranged in such manner as to render it possible to distribute 'the labels in several different groups which may comprise stations employing different ranges of wave lengths, or again may comprise stations all employing the same range but functioning alternately at difierent time intervals. It is further proposed, according to the invention, to provide easily detachable screens which cover and proin the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figs. 1 and 2 show diagrammatically in elevation and in section taken on line A-B a constructional form of a device according to the invention which is particularly useful in the case of a receiving apparatus provided with a single I adjustment and two ranges of wave lengths or again in the case of a receiver having a single adjustment, a single range of wave lengths adapted for two series of stations functioning alternately during different time intervals.
Fig. 3 shows certain details of the device illus- Figs. 5 and 6 show diagrammatically in front elevation and in section taken on line C-D respectively a modification of the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2, which has the advantage of enabling the space taken up by the device to be reduced.
Referring to thedrawings: In Figs. 1,, 2, 3 and 4 the reference numeral 33 denotes the front wall of the cabinet containing the receiving apparatus and 34 denotes an axle rigidly fixed to the moving part of the control member. On the front wall 33 a frame 35, which carries the aggregate of the control member, is fixed by means of a nut 35. The reference numeral 36 denotes the manipulating knob which for the sake of simplicity is shown directly fixed on the axle 34 and the reference numeral 37 denotes a stamped disc which is fixed on the base 36' of the manipulating knob 36 and which is divided diametrically into two similar parts adapted for the attachment of the labels appertaining to one and the other of the two groups under consideration.
A circular groove 38 is provided on the supporting member 3'? for the reception of the hook formed at the one end of the labels, whilst the spring formed by a double fold at the other end thereof bears on the outer rim of the disc 37. The disc 37 is provided with a graduated reference scale 39. The reference numeral 40 denotes a detachable circular screen in which two windows are provided which are arranged diametrically opposite to one another and are employed to show the indications for the range of short waves and those for the range of long waves respectively. The reference numerals 45, 46, 47, 48 denote four fixed indexes arranged on the same diameter of the device, and 49 denotes a resilient plate which is held by means of the nut 35, and which is shaped as is shown on Fig. 3, in such manner that four claws 50, 51, 52, 53 and two tongues 54 and 55 are formed on it which are slightly raised at 56 and 5'7 and which are employed for holding the screen 40 up against the wall 33 by bearing on the plates 58 and 59 which are fixed to the screen 40 and are provided with two diametrically arranged stops 60 and 61. It will thus be seen that the attachment of the screen is effected by the aid of a kind of bayonet coupling and that to obtain free access to the labels it is only necessary to turn the disc 37 in the direction indicated by the arrow so as to disengage the plates 58 and 59.
Without it being necessary either to open the cabinet containing the receiving apparatus or to make use of any tool whatever, the positioning of the labels can be efiected very simply in the following manner:
After having adjusted the apparatus for the reception of the waves from a given station, the indication shown opposite to the index on the reference scale is noted and then after having removed the screen the label carrying the name of the station received is set in place opposite to the indication noted.
As the labels are tensioned in the direction of their length they will be maintained immovably in their correct positions.
In order to improve the appearance of the device as a whole it is advantageous to make the labels of the same colour as the supporting members so that the names appear to be printed on the said supporting members themselves.
It should be noted that the constructional form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 presents the advantage of rendering it possible to apply the invention to any desired existing receiving apparatus.
It should also be noted that any'desired known devices for diminishing or limiting the movements may be introduced between the discs 37 and the manipulating knob 36. "In Figs. 5 and 6 the reference numeral 3'7 denotes a disc which is fixed on 36 and the periphery of which has been bent over to form two truncated conical surfaces62, 6364v, 65 and 66; the reference numerals 65 and 66 denote three parts of the detachable screen which is itself provided with two truncated conical surfaces 64 and 66 connected by an annular plane portion 65.
In this modification the labels are mounted in such manner that their hooks 11 are located on the larger periphery of the base of 6 3, and the manipulating knob 36 is'located in the interior of the centralopening formed in 66.
I claim:
1. In a device for the adjustment of wireless receiving apparatus wherein the adjustments are indicated by means of labels, the combination of: a control member having a moving part for effecting the adjustments; supporting members rigidly connected to the moving part of said control member; detachable labels, which are entirely independent of one another, carried by said supporting members and indicating the adjustments; said supporting members being so arranged as to enable said labels to be distributed in several different groups; easily detachable screens associated with said supporting members and said labels to cover and protect them and provided with window openings exposing to view, in any position of adjustment of the device, only the useful part of the set of labels corresponding to a pre-determined group; and transparent sheets covering the window openings; said labels being detachable and replaceable after removal of said screens without opening the cabinet of the apparatus, substantially as described.
2. In a device for the adjustment of wireless receiving apparatus, wherein the adjustments are indicated by means of labels, the combination of: a control member having a moving part for eifecting the adjustments; a supporting member of hollow truncated conical form operatively connected to the moving part of said control member; detachable labels, which are entirely independent of one another, carried by said supporting member and indicating the adjustments; a detachable truncated conical screen associated with said supporting member and said labels to cover and protect them; and means for fixing the device to the receiving apparatus, comprising a bayonet joint member for connecting said screen to the apparatus; a leaf spring provided with claws pressing said screen against the front wall of the cabinet of the receiving apparatus; and a nut holding said leaf spring in position and likewise securing said control member in place on the set.
