Description

March 20; 1934. E. JACOBSEN MECHANICAL MOVEMENT Original Filed Oct. 18. 1932 Patented Mar. 20, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Original application October 18, 1932, Serial No.
638,316. Divided and this application September 8, 1933, Serial No. 688,551
2 Claims. '(Cl. 74-14) This application is. a division from my original joint application: Serial No. 638,316, filed October 18, 1932, for Interleaving machines.
The primary object of my invention is to provide an interleaving machine that may be timed at drum speed without the use of reduction gears.
A further object of my invention is to provide a mechanical movement that will reduce its driven speed by one-half, thus obviating the necessity of additional parts to the driving machine.
With these and incidental objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, the essential elements of which are set forth in the appended claims, and a preferred form of embodiment of which is hereinafter shown with reference to the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification.
In the drawing:
Fig. l is a fragmentary plan View of my mechanism showing the relationship of the co-acting parts.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary cross sectional view taken on line A-A, Fig. 1.
25 The lever (1) receives its motion from the alternating cam (2) which is hinged to the actuating lever (3) which in turn swings on its axis (4).
Referring to Fig. l, as the lever (3) is moved toward the lever (1), the surface (5) of the cam (2) causes the lever (1) to move upon its fulcrum (6), in the direction of its axis (4) The sliding pin (7) which at this time is in an upward position as shown in Fig. 2 is forced to slide on the cam (2) as it strikes the angled portion (8) of the cam (9) forcing it below the transverse cam 10).
The pin (7) is now in a position to engage with the transverse cam (11) and as the lever (3) is returned, the cam (2) is caused to swing on its axis (12) to a position corresponding to the transverse cam (11), as shown by the dotted line in Fig. 1.
As the lever (1) is now opposite the cam (13) the surface (14) of the cam (2) causes the lever (1) to return to the position shown in Fig. 1 as the actuating lever (3) is again moved forward. The cam (8) of the cam (15) forces the pin (7) back into the position shown in Fig. 2. As the actuating lever (3) is returned to the position shown in Fig. 1, the pin (7) is engaged with the cam (10) returning the alternating cam (2) to its original position. The actuating lever (3) may be connected by a link or other convenient means to its source of power.
While the form of mechanism herein shown and described is admirably adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the inventor to the one form of embodiment herein shown and described, as it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms, all coming within the scope of the claims which follow:
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described comprising an actuating lever, an alternating cam for imparting motion to a vertical lever secured thereto, an engaging pin slidably disposed therein, a cam for imparting downward motion to the engaging pin by forward movement of the actuating lever, a transverse cam for engaging with the pin when in a downward position imparting transverse movement to the alternating cam by return movement of the actuating lever, a cam for imparting upward motion to the pin by the next forward movement of the actuating lever, a transverse cam for engaging with the pin when in an upward position returning the alternating cam to its first position by return movement of the actuating lever.
2. A mechanical movement comprising an actuating lever for operating the mechanism, an alternating cam for imparting motion to a vertical lever secured thereto, an engaging pin slidably disposed in the alternating cam, a lever adapted to engage said alternating cam, a cam for imparting vertical motion to the engaging pin by forward movement of the actuating lever, a transverse cam coacting with the engaging pin for swinging the alternating cam on its axis by the return motion of the actuating lever, a cam for returning the engaging pin to its starting position by the next forward movement of the actuating lever engaging said pin with an oppositely disposed transverse cam for returning the alternating cam to its starting position by the return of the actuating lever.
