Like marks of reference refer to like or corresponding parts, in which A is a window frame, B is the holding filler rail, C is the half section screen, D is the finned rail holder, E is an upper window sash, and F is the corresponding lower sash. In Figure l, holding filler rail B is attached to screen section C by hinges as at 1, butt hinges being mortise'l into said holding filler rail 13 and said screen section C, as in Figure 4. Screen sec tion C bears a hook or fastener 3, said hook or fastener engaging an eye or complement part 4, attached to the sill of said frame A. In Figure l, 2 indicates the centrally disposed slots in either end or" the holding filler rail B, said rail being shorter in horizontal length at either end than its attached screen section C by the outwardly facing width of blind stops 5, combined with the thickness of the attaching plaie 6 of finned rail holder D; said slots being of a depth as to readily accommodate central vertical fin 7 of said rail holder D, the forked ends of said holding filler rail B resting on the lower horizontal fin 8 of said rail holder.
It will be readily understood that while the inventor has indicated wooden screen frames, metallic frames would in no wise impair the efficiency of the present invention, nor does the inventor wish to limit his invention to the style of hinge illustrated and the manner of its attachment. It is further evident that this invention is not of necessity restricted to screening a window sash, but might be employed in the installation of ventilators, or like devices. Further, the present invention might profitably be altered in particular instances by providing two or more screen sections, hinged or fastened together by other means, to facilitate storage, han-- dling or installation, or for other meritorious purposes, and the inventor does not wish to limit device to the illustrated form.
Advantages of the present invention, such as convenience of storage, handling and installation from with n a building through an open sash, without impairing the normal operation of the sashes either when in operative position or otherwise; the rigidity of the installation, the perfect closure of all insect entrances, and the manner in whch the screen may be swung outward without demounting when cleaning the exterior window sashes, are self-evident, as are the simplicity of manufacture and lack of skill required by a home owner or other person installing screens made in the manner of this invention.
Having, therefore, described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:
1. In an article of the nature set forth, the combination of a half screen, a holding filler rail shorter at either end than the width of said half screen to which it is hinged by the thickness of the outer blind stops of a window frame, said holding filler rail being slotted centrally and vertically at either end to engage rail holding clips affixed to said exterior blind stops.
2. In an article of the nature set forth, the combination of a half screen or hinged sectional equivalents, a holding filler rail shorter at either end than the width of said half screen to which it is hinged by the thickness of the outer blind stops of a window frame, said holding filler rail being slotted centrally and vertically at either if end, and finned rail holders capable of attachment to the inward faces of said outer blind stops, said rail holders having central fins projecting centrally and vertically from the attaching base to engage the slotted ends of said holding filler rail.
3. In an article of the nature set forth, the combination of a half screen or hinged sectional equivalents, a holding filler rail shorter at either end than the width of said half screen to which it is hinged by the thickness of the outer blind stops of a window, frame, said holding filler rail being slotted centrally and vertically at either end; finned rail holders capable of attachment to the inward faces of said outer blind stops, said rail holders having fins projecting centrally and vertically from the attaching base to engage the slotted ends of said holding filler rail, and secondary fins projecting horizontally from the bottom of said attaching base, forming an inverted T in combination with said central vertical fins, said secondary horizontal fins forming a seating surface for the forked ends of said holding filler rail.
