The innerbearir'ig. rings `18a and 21av are se'- cured to-the rotatable member 25 which, by preference :and as1shown,nconsists ofian internally 90 (threaded sleeve. The `=inner vrbearing .rings 18a and'21a, together with thedriven gear 22, vare mounted upon member 25 by means ofa `press 't,so that "these vfour parts rotate in unison.

tapered clamping nut 31, the inner side of said nut abutting against the outer side of the circular knife 10 and clamping it against the guard plate 26. The rotatable assembly is also provided with a clamping screw which consists of a shank 32 which by means of the screws head 33 is firmly screwed into the threaded bore of the rotatable member 25, the head of said screw abutting against the outer face of the rise 29 of the guard plate 26.
In order to insure that the rotatable member 25 and guard plate 26 remain in fixed relation to each other, a key 34 is provided between said rotatable member and guard plate. The central portion of the extension or rise 29 of the guard plate 26 is provided with an internal cen-V tral circular recess 34a around the aperture which is necessarily provided through this part of the cap to receive the retaining screw 30, said screw 30 having, beneath its head, an annular shoulder 30s which is fitted into this aperture.
One side of the key 34 engages a recess provided therefor in the end of the rotatable member 25 and the other side of said key engages a recess in the rise 15. A key 35 is also provided to lock together the cutter 10 and guard plate 26, said key consisting of a projection preferably integral with the guard plate 26. The key 34 may be a separate piece, it being held in its operative pcsition by the head 33 of the screw 30.
` rThe device is designed to be driven from any conveniently accessible electric light fixture which furnishes current to the motor 41, which is provided with a control switch 42. The device is also furnished with an operating handle 43 whereby it may be bodily lifted. Saidy handle also being used to move the device across a plane supporting surface such as a desk or table. The supporting rollers 44 adapt it for being moved in this manner.
The base plate V5 is desirably provided at its front end with an inclined nose or bevelled part 45 to aid in directing the cloth into the angle between said blade and the front side of the cutter 10. The back side of the base 5 mayV also be provided with a bevelled portion 46.A The base 5 is shown having a cut-away portion 4'7 thus providing an unobstructed space for the lower side of the cutter 10.
The inner cap plate 14 is preferably provided with recesses 14a; in order that a spanner wrench may be applied to itto. screw it firmly into place. The tapered nut 31 may likewise be provided with recesses 31x to receive a spanner'wrench.
In the manufacturing of the device the driven gear wheel 22, sleevev25 and inner bearing rings 18a and 21a are assembled at theshop, being secured together by means of a press t. The dust guard plate 14 is then manually pushed `over the bearing ring 21 which is seated-therein with aV snug fit; After said guard plate has been united to the parts being assembled it is screwed into place within the internally screw threaded portion 12 of the support, the outer bearing ring 18 of the left hand bearing race as viewed in Fig.

as this is done. The dust guard plate 26 may now be slipped over the rise l5 of the plate 14 with relation to which it has a running fit, thereupon the cutter blade 10 is fitted over the rise 29 of the guard plate and then the tapered nutv 31 is screwed on to the rise 29 toclamp the cutter blade 10 in place. The assembling is completed by sciewling the clamping screw 30 into thesleeve 25.

1. In a cloth cutter, a support, a two-part ball relation to said cutter and located between it and said support, said support having an annular recess and said guard plate having an annular lip extending into said recess.

In a cloth cutter, a support, a bearing mount` ed upon said support, a rotatable member extending through said bearing, said bearing Vconsisting of inner and outer rings separated by antifriction eelments and said rotatable member being fixed to an inner ring of said bearing, a wheel fixed to said rotatable member,Y means to rotate said wheel, aV retaining cap for said bearing, said cap having a central rise which aids in housing said bearing and with which an external ring of the bearing is associated in aiixed relation, a rotatable guard plate Aiixed torsaid rotatable member exteriorly of said cap, said guard plate having a circular guard element which cooperates with a circular seat formed therefor in the supporting means, and a circular cutter blade mounted externally and axially upon said guard plate to rotate therewith in fixed relation thereto.
3. In a cloth cutter, an upstanding support having a conoavity in one side thereof, a bearing mounted upon said support in'said concavity, Yan internal cap having. a circular central rise, said cap being secured to said support with the rise thereof directed away from said conoavity to form a housing for said bearing, a rotatable member supported by vsaid bearing, a circular guard i plate secured tol said rotatable member, said guard plate having a central risewithin which the riseof the internal cap is nested, and a cutter blade secured to ,said guard plate externally thereof Vto rotate therewith. 4. The subject matter of Aclaim 3 and, said guard Vplate'extending radially beyond the periphery of said internal cap, there being an annular lip and an annular groove connection between the peripheral portion of said Yguard plate and said upstanding support to keep dust out of the bearings.

In a cloth cutter,l an internally threaded sleeve, a gear wheel tted'over said sleeve in spaced relation to each end thereof kand secured to said sleeve by means ofv a press fit, a ball bearing member secured to said sleeve by a press t ateach side of said gear wheel, an upstanding support having a recessed lor concave face f to aid in housing said bearings together with said sleeve, said support having an annular re-A .if said cutter being mounted upon said guard plate and having a central aperture through vwhich the rise of said guard plate projects, and a clamping nut screwed on to the rise of said guard plate to clamp said cutter against the outer face thereof.
