MACHINE FOR CTTING THE lVIOLDING FOR SASI-I.
T o all whom maj] concern:
Be it known that I, O. K. COLLINS, of Murfreesboro, in the county of Rutherford and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and Improved Machine for Molding Sash; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Mechanics have long felt the need of a portable cheap and efficient hand machine for cutting moldings for window sashes, and the object of my invention is to meet this demand.
My invention consists of a machine having a movable way, and provided with adjustable planes, capable of being set atboth sides and above the strip to be cut; said planes being armed with several bits or knives, so as to cut many shavings simultaneously.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents my machine and Fig. 2 shows the relation of the bits or knives when two sets of planes are adjusted for cutting both sides of a molding at the same time.
In Fig. 1 A is the frame of my machine, supported by the legs, B, B. The way C is capable of being moved backward and forward in the frame A by means of the pinion P and crank E. The two planes F and G are fastened to the frame A by pins H, I-I,
and the planes I, K, are in like manner held in place by pins L, L. The first set of planes F, and Gr, are designed to cut the side of the molding, while the planes I, K, are arranged for cutting the top of the piece, when desired.
In cutting various forms of moldings, it is sometimes more convenient to arrange planes on both sides of the piece of sash. Therefore the parts M, M, are made removable so that a second set of planes may be substituted, as shown in Fig. 2.
The bits or knives a, a, are set in such manner that each one cuts a shaving at the same time.
A piece on which we wish to cut a molding is placed upon the way C, with one end resting against t-he stop s. rIhen by turning the crank E, so as to drive the piece, upon which we wish to cut the molding, past the planes, a complete molding may be cut at a single stroke of the machine. In this manner, sash moldings may be cut with great rapidity and ease, and consequently at little expense.
I do not claim the separate devices employed by me but I believe that my machine as a whole is new, and on account of its functions as well as its simplicity, cheapness and etiiciency and durability it is a substantial improvement over all otherplaning machines heretofore invented.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
The twofold and adjustable planes, in combination with the removable posts M, and a reciprocating way C, for the purpose of cutting moldings of window sashes, substantially as set forth.
