oNiTEo STATES PATENT OFFICE MOVABLE AND ADJUSTABLE PLUMBING FIXTURE HANGER Otto Witzleb, Dixon lllr Application July 1,1931. Serial No. 548,187
4 Claims. (01. 248-) The invention relates to supporting devices Figure 2 is a front elevation of the support and has for its principal object the provision and a pair of my novel brackets thereon,
of a novel hanger structure by means of which Figure 3 is a front elevation of a stationary plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, Washstands, Wa and mounted upon my display device- 61 toilets and the like may be installed and sed curely h ld against displacement, Figure 4 is a vertical section taken on the line An important object of the invention is to of Figure 3- provide a hanger device of this character which Referring m r pa t u rly to t d win s may b b ilt t t wall itself and which the letter A designates portions of the studding Ni may be of any desired length so as to permit forming p O a W u e, a d B desi mounting thereon of fixtures of different lengths Hates the P P a d 0 Whatever else or types or more than one fixture of the same is used to fur!!! he Surface. or difierent types, In carrying out my invention I provide an Another object of the invention is to provide elongated hOTiZOntai ppfl g ber 10 lt' i a hanger structure of such construction and Preferably ct d as a suitable length of arrangement as to facilitate the proper positionp of y preferred Si e formed with a longiing of th fixturg tudinally extending slot 11. These bracket members of this character which W111 be simple and are preferably of general rectangular shape with expensive to make, easy to install, positive in curved lower ends 15 and are formed at their action emciem and durable in service, and 3 upper ends with outstruck sockets 16 of a size general improvement in the art. h shape to receive the lugs C Commonly p 45 To the attainment of the foregoing and other Ylded at the rear of the upper edge of a pillmbobjects and advantages, the invention prefer mg fixture such as the washstand illustrated ably consists in the details of construction and 2 b the arrangement and combination of parts to ese rackets are to be mounted upon the V be hereina t u support l0 and each is therefore shown as hav- 50 f er more fu y described and clalmed' mg a pair of spaced vertically elongated slots 05' -and illustrated in the accompanying drawings 17 in its-intermediate portion, these slots acin which: commodating bolts 13 which pass through the F1gure 1 IS a perspec v V C-W ow a p slot 11 in the pipe 10 and which have their tron of the studding of a wall and illustrating heads located within the pipe, the threaded the stationary support secured thereto, ends of the bolts projecting through the slots no 17 and carrying washers 19 and nuts 20. Clearly the bolts 18 cooperating with the slots 17 will enable the brackets to be adjusted vertically with respect to the pipe 10. In order that such adjusted position may be positively maintained the brackets are preferably formed at their intermediate portions with horizontally extending corrugations or ridges 21 any selected one of which may be caused to enter the slot 11 so that when the nuts 20 are tightened it will be impossible for the brackets to drop down out of proper position.
In installing the device, the pipe 10 is mounted by means of the arms 12 and the plaster or other surface material B is applied to the studding in such manner that the slotted portion of the pipe will project beyond the surface. If a fixture to be mounted is a relatively short one provided with only two lugs C, then it is necessary to use only two brackets 14 but in the case of many fixtures, like long sinks with integral drain boards there are four or more of such lugs and in such cases it is preferable that a corresponding number of the brackets would be utilized though it might be possible to employ only two, this being immaterial and depending upon the preference of the user. When the nuts 20 are loosened the brackets can of course be shifted individually along the pipe to bring them and consequently the fixture into any desired position. The vertical adjustability of the brackets makes it possible to level up the fixture or change its height with respect to the fioor and this would depend upon the character of the fixture displayed, for instance whether it happened to be a kitchen sink, a lavatory or a toilet. As the pipe 10 may be of any indeterminate length it is clear that various difierent types of fixtures may be supported side by side and any desired distance apart, this latter feature being of particular advantage in case the hanger is used for display purposes as in this way a stock of such goods may be most attractively displayed.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a very simply constructed and inexpensive hanger, support or bracket device for the purpose specified and one which will efiiciently perform all the functions for which it is intended. It is thought that the construction, operation and advantages should be readily apparent to one skilled in the art without further explanation.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it should be understood that the disclosure is merely an exemplification of the principles involved as the right is reserved to make all such changes in the details of construction as will widen the field of utility and increase the adaptability of the device provided such changes constitute no departure from the spirit of the invention or 6': ;the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described the invention, I claim: 1. Means for supporting plumbing fixtures having mounting elements thereon, comprising a slotted stationary horizontal support, a plurality of bracket members mounted against the support, bolts extending through the slot and the bracket members for securing the latter, said bracket members having sockets thereon adapted to receive the mounting elements of the fixtures, said bracket members having vertically elongated slots for the passage of the bolts whereby the bracket members may be adjusted vertically, and other means on the bracket members cooperating with the support for positively maintaining a vertically adjusted position.
2. Means for supporting plumbing fixtures having mounting elements thereon, comprising a slotted stationary horizontal support, a plurality of bracket members mounted against the support, bolts extending through the slot and the bracket members for securing the latter, said bracket members having sockets thereon adapted to receive the mounting elements of the fixtures, said bracket members having vertically elongated slots for the passage of the bolts Whereby the bracket members may be adjusted vertically, said bracket members being formed each with a series of projections selectively disposable within the slot of the horizontal support for maintaining a vertically adjusted position to enable the fixture to be leveled.
3. An adjustable bracket structure comprising a horizontal support formed with a longitudinal slot, a bracket member disposed against said support and formed with a vertical slot and also formed with a series of horizontally extending ridges, and a bolt passing through the slot in said support with its head located interiorly thereof and its shank passing through the slot in'the bracket member, and a nut on said bolt cooperating with the bracket member to hold the same in vertically adjusted position with a selected one of the ridges received within the slot in the support.
4. An adjustable bracket structure for supporting a plumbing fixture of the type having an upstanding back with depending lugs at the upper portion thereof, comprising a pipe disposable horizontally against a wall and provided with a plurality of laterally extending angularly arranged arms adapted to be secured to the sides of studding forming part of the wall, said pipe being provided with a longitudinally extending slot, bolts extending through said slot and slidable therealong and having their heads disposed within the pipe, members disposed against the pipe and formed with sockets for receiving the lugs on the plumbing fixture, said members being formed with vertically elongated slots slidably adjustably receiving said bolts, and said members being formed at their intermediate portions with ridges any selected one of which may be engaged within the first named slot for the purpose of maintaining vertically adjusted positions of said members for effecting levelling of the fixture.
