Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE s. RIGGs, OF MIGANOFY, FLORIDA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FAN ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l94,725, dated August 28, 1877 applieaiiOU filed June 11, 1877.
lo all whom it may concern Beit known that I, GEORGE S. RIGGs, of Micanopy, Alachua county, Florida, have invented a new and Improved Fly-Brush, of' which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved v ily-brush, and Fig. 2 is a detail view of the rack and pinion that operate the brush.
My invention relates to an improvement in fans for attaching to tables; and it consists of an oscillating fan supported by a standard attached to the center of a table and driven by means of a treadle through a suitable ari rangement of levers and rods, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing, A is a table, in the center of which a hollow standard, B, is attached. A rod,'0, which is journaled in the upper end of the standard, is bent downward at each side of the standard, and outward parallel to the surface ot' the table, and is provided with the Wings a. At the center of the post a pinion, b, is placed upon the rod G,-
and the rod c, that extends through the hollow standard B, is provided With a rack, d, that engages the pinion b.
The rod C is held in its place in the standard B by a cap, e, which is secured to the standard by means of hooks or other suitable fastening. f, that is pivoted at g at the under side of the table, and the said lever is connected by a rod, h, with a treadle, fi, that is pivoted to a suitable frame attached to the oor.
When the treadle is Worked by the foot the rod C is oscillated, and the wings a create sufficient motion in the air To drive ofl" iiies.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The rod G having wings a, the pinion b, rod c having the rack d, the hollow standard B, lever f, treadle i, and rod h, in combination, substantially as shown and described.
GEORGE S. RIGGS.
