This invention has for its object an improved process for the manufacture of fabric pattern or sample cards, that is to say, cards on which are attached series of samples or patterns of fabrics 5 and apparatus for carrying out the process.
According to the process one places in contact with the samples an adhesive layer, such as adhesive paper, this sheet being itself placed in contact with the sheet of cardboard and we place in contact with the latter a heating body which causes the samples to adhere to the cardboard by the intermediary of the said layer of material.
The annexed drawing diagrammatically illustrates by way of example a form of construction of an apparatus for carrying out the process.
Stacks of samples of fabric a are placed in a series of magazines such as b each stack being pressed by a spring c against narrow upper inwardly projecting rims or borders d of the magazines.
The magazines are arranged symmetrically in rows.
0n the upper part of this device a sheet e of adhesive paper is placed, then on this sheet e is placed the card i. A heating plate g is then applied on the whole and causes one of the :faces of the adhesive paper to adhere to the cardboard and the other face of this paper to adhere to the patterns. After some minutes it is sumcient to remove this heating plate when the card can be withdrawn ready for use being composed of cardboard, adhesive paper and patterns the adherence to the adhesive paper easily overcoming the slight resistance ofiered by the projecting edges (1.
What we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A process for the construction of fabric sample cards consisting in placing in contact with the uppermost one of a stack of fabric samples one surface of a sheet of adhesive material, placing the other surface of said sheet in contact with one face of a sheet of cardboard, and superposing on the other surface of said sheet of cardboard a heating and pressing plate, maintaining the cardboard and adhesive sheet between the stack of fabric samples and the heating and pressing plate until the uppermost sample of the stack adheres to said adhesive sheet and until the latter dries, and finally removing said plate and sample card.
2. An apparatus for mounting fabric samples on a sample card comprising a base, a series of spring members mounted on said base, a series of independent vertical magazines surrounding said spring members adapted to contain stacks of samples supported on said spring members, said magazines being open at their top and bottom ends, inwardly directed rims at the top ends of said magazines, a heating and pressing plate mounted above the magazines and adapted to cooperate with the tops of said magazines for causing a sheet of adhesive material to adhere to the uppermost samples in the magazines and to a sheet of cardboard placed with the adhesive sheet between the tops of the magazines and said plate.
