Side 3, wider than side 2, is convexly in the pocket of a user, showing the manner in curved, and its marginal portion 8, equal in length ;which the package fits the pocket without puckerwith the width of side 3, is longer than the width 3 s t material of the'gelmehtof side 2. Since the free edge of the portion 8 The conventional type of cigarette package is turned substantially right angularly from the now in use is substantially rectangular in cross side 3 to lie substantially along the plane of y section, both of its sides being of equal width, side 2, it is necessary to reduce the effective length and the package being of uniform thickness of said free edge. This reduction is convenient- '3 ly accomplished by providing darts or tucks, 9, 9, inwardly from the free edge of the portion 8. Each tuck 9 is substantially triangular in contour and is folded along a line which substantially bisects the portion, as shown in Fig. 4.
Similar triangular folded areas are formed in the corners of the portions 6, 7, as shown at 10, 10, and in the corners of portion 8, as shown at 11, 11. The several corner areas are folded on themselves to provide corner tucks for the package, thus materially reducing the thickness of the package in its corners as compared with its body portion.
The portion 8, after being folded as indicated, is turned inwardly from side 3, and portions 6 and 7 are turned inwardly from side 2, superimposed on portion 8, and adhesively secured thereto to complete the end structure of the receptacle. However, before adhesively uniting the two plies of the end, slit 5 is slightly opened, to render substantially arcuate the line of fold common to side 2 and portions 6-, 7, and dispose the side 2 in a condition of substantially concavecurvature, as shown in Figs. 2 and l Setting of the adhesive fixes the preformed curvatures of the sides through the medium of the integral end portions of the package.
It is to be observed that as regards the specific embodiment of the invention hereinabove explained, I have illustrated a blank formed to pro- Vide two side portions and a cooperating end of the package. It will be obvious that the complete package, including the other end portion, may be provided by employing a pair of formed -blankstelescopically associated, in which case each member of the two-part package structure will provide an end portion and contiguously associated sides. In the alternative, both end-portions maybe provided by a single blank, formed as shown in Fig. 1, with the addition of marginal portions 6, 7 and 8 duplicated along the opposite edge of the blank in the upper part of the figure, and folded and manipulated exactly asdescribed and explained in connection with the lower marginal edges, 6, 7 and 8 shown in the figure;
It is to be understood that the invention has been shown and described in a certain preferred form'of embodiment only, merely by way of exemplification. The invention is capable of embodiment in other and further modified forms, and all such modifications, to the extent that they embody the principles of the invention as pointed out in the appended claims are deemed to be within the scope and purview thereof.
Having thus described my present invention What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A package comprising a sheet folded to pro Vide two integral sides, one side being relatively narrow, and the other side being relatively wide and substantially convexly curved, a portion of the sheet integral with the sides being folded from the sides to provide an end of the package, said end having one of its side boundary lines substantially conveXly curved.
2. A package comprising a sheet folded to pro- Vide two integral sides, one side being relatively narrow, and the other side being relatively wide and substantially convexly curved, the end marginal portions of both sides being folded on themselves and secured together to provide an end of the package.
3. A package comprising a sheet folded to pro- Vide two integral sides, one side being relatively narrow and substantially concavely curved, and the other side being relatively wide and substantially convexly curved, the end marginal portions of both sides being folded on themselves and secured together to provide a closed end of the package.
4. A package comprising a sheet folded to provide' side portions, one side being substantially" concavely curved and the other side being substantially convexly curved, in combination with integral end marginal portions of the sides fold-- ed on themselves and secured together to provide a closed end of the package, the marginal portion of the concavely curved side being transversely slit and opened.
5. A package comprising a sheet folded to provide side portions, one side being substantially concavely curved and the other side being substantially convexly curved, in combination with integral end marginal portions of the sides folded on themselves and secured together to provide a closed end of the package, the marginal portion of the concavely curved side being transversely slit and opened in substantial alignment with the median line of said side and secured in opened condition to fix the concave curvature of the side.
6. A package comprising a sheet having a body folded to provide side portions of the package and end marginal portions integral with the body, folded on themselves and secured together to provide an end of the package, the end marginal portion of one side being centrally slit and opened whereby said side is substantially concavely curved.
