32 is provided with a projection or offset 33 adapted to engage in a recess 34 provided in the closure plate 11a. The retaining pin 19a is provided with an elongated head 21a, as previously described, and in this particular instance the in- Wardly disposed edges 35 of said head are inclined or beveled to automatically urge upon rotation, the retaining means inwardly against the action of the spring.

In Fig. 8, yielding means in the form of a leaf spring 36 is provided on the hand grip 17a to automatically engage in the recess 34a in plate 11 When the device is locked in place.

It can be readily understood that the closure plate l1, of the improved key-hole guard, covers the entire key opening 3l in one of the cover plates 24, thus obstructingvision through the key-hole; and the extension member 12, conforming substantially to the shape of the keyhole, prevents access being had to the latch bolt 37 or to the retaining pin 179 fromV the side ofthe door opposite to that in which the device is inserted. Y

Although exemplary forms of the invention have been illustrated in the accompanying drawing and described in detail in the foregoing specification,it is to be understood that the device is capable of incorporatingv various modifications in `detail structure without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

. 1. A device of the character described adapted to be mounted over the keyv opening in a door having a lock therein, comprising; a closure plate;

an integral extension on said plate adapted to extend through the key-hole in said lock, yieldably mounted rotatable retaining means carried by said plate; said retaining means being adapted to engage the cover plate on said door to retain the device in place, and positive locking means on the retaining meanscooperating with the closureplate to prevent unauthorized manipulation of said retaining means. y

2. A device of the character described adapted to be mounted over the keyr opening in a door` having a key operated lock, comprising in` combination; a closure plate; an extension formed integral with and extended outwardly at right angles from one side of said closure plate; a boss on the other side of said plate; retaining means mounted in said boss, and retaining means extending through said plate and being adaptedto engage behind the cover plate of the lock to re- :tain the device in place.

3. A device of the character described, comprising in combination; a closure plate; an ex-v tension formed integral with and extending at right angles from one side of said closure plate;

, a pin, having an elongated head, mounted in said plate; the head of said pin being disposed on the side of the plate carrying said extension; a

boss on the other side of said plate through which,

said pin extends; a collar secured on the end of said pin, and a spring interposed between said collar and the boss to normally urge the elongated head into contact with said closure plate.

4. Adevice of the character described .adapted for insertion into the key-hole of a door lock having cover plates associatedl therewith, comprising in combination; a closure plate; an extension formed integral with and extending at right angles from one Vside of said closure plate;

a boss on the other side of said plate; retainingV `.means mounted in said boss; said retaining means extending through said closure plate and being adapted to engage one'of the cover plates to retain the device in place, and means for locking said retaining means to prevent unauthorized manipulation thereof.

A device of the character described adapted for insertion into the key-hole of a door lock having cover plates associated therewith, comprising in combination; a closure plate; an extension formed integral with and extending at right angles from one side of said closure plate; a boss on the other side of said plate; retaining means mounted in said boss; said retaining means extending through said closure plate and being adapted to engage behind one of said cover plates to retain the device in place thereover, and manually operable pivotally mounted means for locking said retaining means in engagement With the cover plate.

6. A device of the character described comprising, in combination, a closure plate, an extension formed integral with saidclosure plate,

a pin, having an elongated head, mounted in saidV said pin extends, a collar secured on the end of,

said pin, and a spring interposed between said collar and the boss to urge normally theelongated head into contact with said closure plate. '7. A device Vof the character described comprising, in combination, a closure plate, an extension, formed integral with and extending at right angles from one side of said closureplate, a pin, having an elongated head, mounted in said plate, the head of said pin being disposed on the side of the plate carrying said extension,-

a collar secured on theother end of said pin, and a spring interposed between saidv collar and said plate to urge normally the elongated head into contact with said closure plate.

A fdevice of thecharacter describedV comprising, in combination, a closure plate, an extension formed integral with said closure plate, a pin, having a head, mounted in said plate, the head of said pin being'disposed on the side of the plate carrying saidgextensiom a collar secured on the other end of said pin, and a spring interposed between `said Vcollar and said plate to urge normally the head into contact with said closure plate.
