My present invention relates to. improvements in pot spinning apparatusfor the production of artificial silk particularly to improvements in the thread guide actuating mechanism.
In my copending application filed August 11, 1931, Serial Number 556,428, I have described and claimed an improved form of thread guide mechanism which is secured to the spinning pot motor in such a manner that no vibration of either the said motor or the spinning pot is transmitted to the thread guide actuating mechanism and thread guide. By such construction objectionable variations in the spun cake and/or thread are practically eliminated. My present invention relates to a modified arrangement for connecting the thread guide actuating means and spinning pot motor to each other.
Accordingly, one object of my present invention is the further development of means to connect the spinning pot motor and thread actuating mechanism whereby any vibration of either the motor or spinning pot will no t be transmitted from the thread actuating mechanism.
Another object of my present invention is to provide an improved connection between the thread actuating mechanism and spinning pot motor cooperating with the motor shaft at a point at which the'radial deections of said shaft are small during rotation thereof. In this construction the motor and spinning pot, forming-a rigid unit are resiliently suspended to a suitable .horizontally disposed partition secured to the motor and spinning pot housing about midway thereof.l
The thread actuating mechanism is coupled to the motor shaft by means of a ring gear rotatably mounted on the said partition, the said ring being operatively connected to the shaft by a plurality of radially disposed springs or-othe resilient means.
. .A further object of my present invention is to provide an improved coupling to connect the Y spinning pot motor and thread actuating means in which the motor is provided with two concentrically arranged shafts so disposed as to pre- Referring now more particularly to Fig. 1 the spinning pot mechanism comprises a motor 10 and a spinning pot 11 rigidly connected to the motor shaft 12. The upper end of the motor is provided with a projection 13 to which is secured in any suitable manner a ring or collar 14. YBy means of this ring or collar the motor is supported or suspended in a casing 15. 'Ihe latter is provided with a central partition or intermediate bottom 16 and the ring or collar is mounted in a housing formed in the partition in which is secured a flexible layer or packing 17. The upper portion of said housing carries a rotatably mounted spur gear 16 which is held against radial displacement by the bearing 19. The bearing comprises a key-way in which the collar or ring secured to the gear is rotatably situated. As will be noted from an inspection 'of the drawings the gear is positioned concentric with respect to the motor shaft.
The gear 18 is operatively connected tothe motor shaft by'a plurality of spiral springs 20 which extend radially outward therefrom. When the said shaft is rotating these springs rotate the gear 19 but do not, because of their resiliency, transmit the vibration of the motor and/or spinning pot.
The thread guide 21 is recprocated by rotation of the gear 19 through reduction gearing 22 and barrel cam 23. The thread guide rod carries a cam follower 24, which rides in the cam track of the barrel cam. Thus upon rotation of the gear 19 the desired reciprocatory motion is imparted to the thread guide rod, but because of the location of the gear 19 with respect-to the motor shaft, and the resilient spring connection between these parts no vibrations are transmitted from said shaft to the thread guide actuating' means.
Referring now to the modification shownin Fig; 2, the spinning apparatus comprises a spinning pot 25 driven by a motor 26. The motor shaft to which said pot is connected is made in two parts, an outer hollow shaft 27 which is rigidly supported on the motor housing 28 by ballbearings 29 and 30, and an inner shaft 31 concentrically arranged within the said hollow outer shaft.` To the lower end 32 of the outer shaft is secured a spur gear wheel 33 which is operatively connected to the barrel cam 34 by suitablel reduction gearing 35. The thread guide rod is provided with a cam follower 3'6 which rides in the cam track formed in the barrel cam. 'lhis construction reciprocates the thread guide rod upon rotation of the motor shaft. The housing for the motor and thread guide actuation mechanism is made in one piece, thereby simplifying the construction of the device.
Since the spinning pot is secured to the inner shaft 31, which i's in turn secured to the outer shaft only at the bottom as is clearly indicated at 37, the vibrations of the 'said shaft will n be transmitted to the thread guide mechan m. Moreover, as previously pointed out the construction of the housing is simplified without interfering with the vibrationless run of the spinning pot and of the gearing of the thread guide.
From the above description it will be appreciated that I have devised a new and improved combination of means to couple the` spinning pot motor to the thread guide mechga. which will prevent the vibrations and radial deflections of the shaft from being transmitted to the thread guide actuating mechanism. Moreover, my new arrangement of parts is simple in operation and construction and simplifies greatly the setting up or construction of the spinning mechanism.
Although I have described in detail the preferred mechanisms embodying my invention, it will be obvious to anyone skilled in the ,art that the invention is susceptible vof many changes Without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention.
What I claim as new is:
1. In a spinning mechanism, a spinning pot, means to rotate said pot, a thread guide rod, a gear arranged concentric to said means, a flexible connection between said gear and means, and means associated with said gear to impart reciprocatory motion to said thread guide rod upon rotation of said pot rotating means.
2. Ina spinning mechanism, a spinning pot,
' a'shaft to which said pot is secured, means for rotating said shaft, a thread guide for leading thread 'into said pot, a gear concentrically arranged With respect to said shaft, a flexible connectionl directly connecting said gear. and shaft, and means operatively connected' to said gear to reciprocate said thread guide upon rotation of said shaft.
3. In a spinning mechanism, a spinning pot, a shaft to which said potis secured, means for rotating said shaft, a thread guide for leading thread into said pot, a gear concentrically arranged with. respect to said shaft, a pluralityof springs radially' disposed about said shaft and connecting said gear and shaft, .and means operatively connected to said gear to ,reciprocate said thread guide upon rotation of said shaft.
4. In -a spinning mechanism, a spinning pot, a shaft to which said pot is secured, means for rotating said shaft, a thread guide for leading thread into said pot, a-gear concentrically arranged with respect to said shaft, a plurality of spiral springs connecting said gear and shaft, and means operatively connected to said gear to reciprocate said thread guide upon rotation of said shaft. l
5. In a spinning mechanism, a spinning pot, a shaft to which said pot is secured, means for rotating said shaft, a thread guide for leading thread into said pot, a gear concentrically arranged with respect to said shaft, a plurality of radially disposed springs about said shaftv and connecting said gear and shaft, and means operatively connected to said gear to reciprocate said thread guide upon rotation of said shaft.

In a spinning mechanism, la spinning pot, a shaft to which said pot is connected, a motor` for rotating said shaft, thread guide means for leading thread into said pot, a housing for said motor and pot, a partition located in said housing, means secured to said motor and cooperating with said partition to hold said motor in suspended position, a gear arranged concentrically with said shaft and located adjacent said partition, springs connecting said gear to said shaft, and means operatively connected with said gear to reciprocate said thread guide means upon rotation of said shaft.
9. In a spinning mechanism, a spinning pot, a motor, a shaft driven by said motor to which said pot is secured, a housing for said motor and pot provided witha central portion having a chamber formed. therein, resilient packing located in Isaid chamber, means associated with said motor secured in said chamber for maintaining said motor 'in suspended position, a gear arranged concentrically of said shaft and adjacent said means, flexible means connecting said shaft and gear, thread -guide means and means operatively connected to said gear to reciprocate said thread 4guide means upon rotation of said shaft.
10. In a spinning mechanism, a spinning pot,a motor, a housing for said motor and pot, thread guide means, means driven by said motor to which said pot is secured, said means comprising an outer hollow shaft rotatably mounted in said housing, means operatively connected to said outer shaft to reciprocate said thread guide means upon rotation of said shaft, an inner shaft positioned inside said outer shaft, to which said pot is secured, said inner shaft being operatively connected to said outer shaft by resilient'means located at the lower end of said outer shaft.
11. In a spinning mechanism, a spinning pot, a motor, thread guide means, a unitary housing for said motor and thread guide means, means driven by said motor to which said pot is secured, said means comprising an outer hollow shaft rotatably mounted in said housing, means operatively connected to said outer shaft to reciprocate said thread guide means upon rotation of said shaft, an inner shaft positioned inside said.
