' downs.; (creo-12) i This invention relates to a functionally f 'and tated with respect to the sleeve, the pin will trastructurally` improved razor which may be 'ef-V verse Athe slot 13 and in so doing, will ride upficiently employed to give a satisfactory shave wardly within'the slot 12 from the position shownV and in which the parts maybe cleaned readily in Figure 1 tothe position shown in Figure 2.
` andthe blade expeditiously removed when desired. Also, due to the fact that the upper end of the 60 It is an object of the invention toprovide Aan slot 12 is tangentially offset as at 1'7, the nal article of this character by means of which the movement of the parts incident to this shifting parts may vreadilybe adjusted and shifted from will cause 'the stem `and clamping plate carried therebyto rotate axially as in Figure 2. ConselMoreover, by the present inventionastructure quently, a blade having a proper opening, may 65 is presented which will prevent'to the greatest 'ex,, be freely Withdrawn over the clampingplate and tent a clogging of the 'parts despite the fact that from a position on the guard. they may be freely subjected to immersion in In'the form of construction shown in Figure 4,

Consequently, the sleeve surface Will 70 Among other objects of the invention are those notbe 'broken as is the case in the structure of that provide a razor embodying relatively fe'w Figures 1 to 3. As shown, it is preferred that parts, each individually simple and rugged in con the slot'18- be formed in a separate cylindrical struction, and capable of production largely by member 19 rather than in the inner face of the automatic machinery and assemblage by unskilled sleeve; Otherwise, the sleeve-stock might have to 75 labor, these parts operating over longr periods of betoo heavy. If such a construction is resorted time withfreedom from difficulty. to, the cylindrical member may be grooved or With these and other objects in mind,' refer slotted. and thereafter simply driven home wi-thin L ence is had tothe attached sheet ofdrawings thesleeve in such manner that relative-,moveillustrating practical embodiments of the inven-VK ments between these elements are prevented. . terposed. 'I'his blade is preferably maintained It will be noted that the slots 13 and 18 have '40 upon the guard byablade-positioning lug or abuttheir lower ends offset as at 21 so that proper 95 ment 7, forming a part of the latter. The clampadjustment may be secured` without the parts ing plate is pivotally supported upon the upper accidentally shifting with respect to each other. end of a stem 8 and this stem extends within the As a consequence, the parts may be seated and bore of a tube 9 of which the guard forms an thereafter by a relatively minute amount of vi5- integral 0r fXed Dart. The Stem Carries a Din l0 turning of the knob' with respect to the sleeve, 100
which, aS shown at 11 in Figure 3.111815' be Springthe blade may be exed to just the extent depressed. This pin projects through a slot 12 sil-ed formed in the tube 9 and extends beyond the In the form of construction shown in Figs. 4 same to ride within a spiral slot 13 formed in a and 5, the sleeve may extend up to the guard Sleeve 14. The latter iS rotatably Supported upon member. Consequently, the entrance of water, 105
the tube and is maintained against displacement snap, etc into the interior of the razor is preat one end as, for example, by a retaining ring 15 vented to the greatest extent. The ring 15 in and at the Other end IOtatably bears against a the form of construction as shown in Fig. l will knob 16 xedly secured to the tube. also serve to prevent the entrance of foreign '55 Thus, it will be obvious that, as the tube is roagents. If it is desired to disassemble the parts, 110
this may be accomplished readily by simply retracting or otherwise removing the pin 10 and detaching Athe knob. Thereupon, the various parts may be withdrawn. In lieu of the ring l5 as shown in Fig. 1, the tube as in Fig. 2 may be extended as at 22 to provide a structure whereby entrance of soap is prevented.
Thus, among others, the several objects of the invention as specifically aforenoted are achieved. It will be appreciated that numerous changes in construction and rearrangement of the parts might be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A razor, comprising a stem, a knob secured thereto, a tube enclosing said stem, a sleeve associated with said tube, a guard secured to said tube, a clamping plate secured to said stem, means for retaining said sleeve in position with respect to said tube, and means whereby said clamping plate is caused to shift axially and rotatably with respect to said guard to permit of a blade being dismounted from the latter.r
2. A razor, comprising a stem, a knob secured thereto, a tube enclosing said stem, a sleeve associated with said tube, a guard secured to said tube, a clamping plate secured to said stem, means for retaining said sleeve in position with respect to said tube, said sleeve being rotatable with respect to said tube and knob, and means functioning automatically upon such relative rotation occurring to shift said clamping plate axially and rotatably away from and towards said guard.
3. A razor, comprising a stem, a knob secured thereto, a tube enclosing said stem, a sleeve associated with said tube, a guard secured to said tube, a clamping plate secured to said stem, means for retaining said sleeve in position with respect tor said tube, said sleeve being rotatable with respect to said tube and knob, and means associated with said stem, tube and sleeve whereby, upon the latter being rotated with respect to said tube, said clampingr plate will be shifted axially and rotatably away from and towards said guard.
4. A razor, comprising a clamping plate and guard, a tube secured to said guard, a stem mounted on said plate, a sleeve enclosing said tube, said tube and sleeve being each formed With track ways, a pin carried by said stem and cooperating with said track ways, and at least one of the latter being spirally disposed whereby relative rotation of said sleeve and tube will cause longitudinal shifting of said stem and plate with respect to said guard.
5. A razor, comprising a clamping plate and guard, a tube secured to said guard, a stem mounted on said plate, a sleeve enclosing said tube, said tube and sleeve being each formed with slots and a pin carried by said stem and extending through said slots, one of said slots being tangentially disposed whereby relative rotation between said sleeve and tube will cause longitudinal shifting of said stem and plate with 'respect to said guard.
6. A razor, comprising a clamping plate and guard, a tube secured to saidV guard, a stem mounted on said plate, a sleeve enclosing said tube, said tube being formed with a slot, said sleeve being formed with a groove'in its in@ ner face, a pin carried by said stem and extending through said slot into said groove, whereby relative rotation of said tube with re- 'spect to said sleeve will cause longitudinal shifting of said stem and plate with respect to said guard.
7. A razor including a tube, a sleeve, a cylindrical member interposed between said sleeve and tube and fixed against movement with respect to the former, said member and tube being formed with slots, a stem slidably disposed within said tube, a clamping plate carried by said stem, a guard secured to said tube, and means connected to said stem and extending through said slots at the point of intersection thereof to shift said stem longitudinally of said tube as said sleeve and member Vare rotated with respect to said tube.
