The present invention relates to an improved nut lock for bolts and nuts, and the purpose of the invention is to provide an improved device of this kind, more especially independent of the nut, or the bolt, insofar as the carrying of the look by either one, whereby the ring may be inserted over the end of the bolt, with the locking device carried by the ring to be moved in engagement with the thread of the bolt in order to draw the ring in engagement with the thread of the bolt, whereby the nut may be locked against rotation in one direction subsequent to the nut being turned home.
Another purpose is to provide means carried by the ring to be engaged by means of a lug carried by the locking device (which is pivotally mounted upon the ring) for locking the ring in position by drawing a toothed edge of the ring in engagement with the thread of the bolt.
It is to be understood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitative, and that while still keeping within the scope of the invention, any desired modification of details and proportions may be made in the construction of appliances according to circumstances.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts to be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing and claimed.
Figure l is a view of a bolt and nut, showing the improved nut look as applied.
Figure 2 is a view in elevation showing the ring with its toothed edge out of engagement with the thread of a bolt and the locking device or pivoted tongue out of engagement with the thread of the bolt, showing the direction the locking device is to be moved to bring a toothed edge and a cam of the device in engagement with the thread of the bolt.
Figure 3 is a view in elevation showing the nut and the interengaging means between the locking device and the ring in cooperation.
Referring to the drawing 1 identifies a bolt of the general ordinary character, and as passing through two objects 2 and 3 to be bolted together and 4 identifies a conventional type of nut, which in this case is not at all modified in construction, but is of general character.

This locking arm has a cam edge 10 eccentric to its pivot, and due to this construction and its location and its eccentricity relative to theconstruction o! the bolt, is adapted to bite in the thread of the bolt, and thereby lock the nut against rotation in one direction, that is to say after being turned home.
The ring or plate has a lug-11 on its margin, and with which an end portion 12 of the locking arm may engage for locking the arm and drawing the ring laterally in order to draw the toothed edge of the ring as well as the cam or eccentric into cooperation with the thread of the bolt. The arm 9 isprovided with a lateral lug 9a with which an operator's hand may engage i'or disengaging the end portion 12 o! the arm from the lug 11, when it is desired to move the arm to a position shown in Figure 2 so as to disengage the ring from the end of thebolt.
It is obvious with this character or device it is possible to lock any form of bolt or nut regardless of its size or proportions, so long as the ring may fit over the shank' of the bolt.
It is pnessential to have the device carried by the nut as is the case in many devices of this kind, and it is even unessential to modify the normal construction of the nut or the bolt. 7
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed is: 8
1. In a nut lock, the combination with a bolt adapted for passing through thicknesses to be clamped together, of a nut threaded on the end of the shank or the bolt, a ring like member provided with an opening slightly elongated in one direction and adapted to receive the threaded end of the bolt, said opening havins a toothed edge to bite in the thread of the bolt, and a device pivotally mounted on said ring like member and having an eccentric edge to bite into the thread of the bolt to draw the toothed edge or the ring like member in engagement with the thread of position.
