J.
Application March 13,
' 1 claim.
The invention will be fully and comprehensively understood from a consideration of the following detailed description when readin connection with the accompanying drawings which form part of the application, with the understanding, however, that the improvement is capable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawings nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therefrom as do not affect the spirit of the inventionnor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a gaming table with the legs in open position, this view showing a slidable tray attached to the underside of the table for holding cards, checkers and so forth.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the table showing they legs in closed position and the drawer in closed position. I 1
Fig. 3 is a broken fragmentary bottom plan view of the 1table with legs in extended position and the locking means in position locking the legs.
Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 4--4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4 and showing in dotted lines a position of the leg as being opened or closed; and
Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of means for locking the legs and means for releasing the locking mechanism.
Referring to the drawings for a more detailed description thereof, the numeral 7 indicates a table having) a body portion 8, sides 9, a top 10 and four legs 11. The top 10 of the table may be provided with inlaid ashtrays 12 at the corners, and the top may if desired bear a design such for example as the design of a checker-board 14 shown in Fig. l.
A drawer 16 is slidably mounted on the lower face of\ the table top 10. The drawer 16 is mounted so that it may be pulled out to one side of the 1931. Serial No. 522,414
to allow the legs to be opened to support the table and to be folded under the table.
The mechanism shown in Fig. 6 is provided to lock each pair of legs in either open or closed position, there being one such mechanism for each pair of legs. The' mechanism of Fig. 6 is disposed adjacent the inner face of each of the cross members 20 which join the legs of each pair of legs. The mechanism comprises a pair of rods 25 provided near their outer ends with stops or shoulders 26. Helical coils 27 abut against the shoulders 26 and encircle the rods 25. The inner ends of the rods 25 are provided with hooks 29 which each engage a turnably mounted cam 30. Means are provided for pressing upon a pair of cams 30 simultaneously, and such means are illustrated lby the device indicated by the numeral also secured to the cross pieces 20. Theinner ends of the helical coils 27 bear against an upturned side portion 38 of the brackets 37. The outer ends 40 of the rods 25 enter recesses 41 in the side 9 of the table, two recesses being provided for each leg, one for the open position of the leg and the other for the folded position. Plates 43 are secured to the inner faces of the sides 9 Iadjacent the recesses 41.
. It will readily be seen that the pressure of the helical springs A2'7 keep the rods 25 in their respective recesses and that when the thumb piece 33 is pressed inwardly to rotate the car'ns 30 the latter will draw the rods 25 out of the recesses and allow the legs to be changed from folded to' extended positions or vice Versa.
What is claimed as new is:
Relesable locking means for tables, etc. comprising a pair of aligned rods having their inner ends spaced apart and provided with stops, pivoted cams contacting saidxstops, a single plunger adapted to turn said cams', the latter, when actuated by said plunger, being adapted to pull said rods inwardly toward. each other, shoulders on the outer end portions of said rods and coil springs encirclingportions of said rods and bear` ing against the inner surfaces of said shoulders.
