Description

1933. w. T. LEATHERDALE ET AL 1,933,862
HOLDER FOR EDIBLES AND GENERAL MERCHANDISE Filed March l2I 1931 Patented Nov, 7, 1933 PATENT OFFICE HOLDER FOR EDIBLES AND GENERAL MERCHANDISE William Thomas Leatherdale and William J amicson Wilson, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Application March '12, 1931.
1 Claim.
The invention relates to improvements in holders for edibles and general merchandise, as described in the present specification and shown in the accompanying drawing that forms a part of the same.
The invention consists essentially of the novel features pointed out in the claim for novelty following a description containing an explanation in detail of an acceptable form ofvthe invention.
The objects of the invention are to devise a holder that may be secured to the open portion of a crate or case or in another form be a complete case in itself; to construct a holder that will be ornamental in appearance and will add as an embellishment in the display of the shopkeeper and others; to minimize waste in floor space and utilize the unused space in shop windows and in the stores; to display fruit, vegetables and general merchandise in an appetizing and attractive manner; to construct a holder that can be easily attached or removed to various crates or cases; and generally to provide a holder that will be durable in construction, comparatively cheap to manufacture and efficient for the purpose set forth.
In the drawing, Figure l is a front elevational view of the holder in the form of a case.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the holder in the form of a case.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of the holder taken on the lines 3--3 in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a front elevational view of the holder as an attachment.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a holder attachment having a discharge mouth. 7
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the holder attachment secured to a packing case.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.
Referring to the drawing, the holder as indicated in Figures 1 to 3 is shown in the form of a display case as indicated by the numeral 10, and having the central partition 11 which divides the casing into the two sections 12 and 13. These two sections have their outer covers 14 and 15 in the form of glass, screening, netting, grate, lattice or other similar facing and are secured to the casing by means of the straps 16 which are secured either to the front or rear facings 14 and 15 thereby connecting the two covers simultaneously to the casing and in this way it will be noted that several kinds of edibles maybe displayed in the case at the same time, such as for example, oranges and apples.
The holder attachment is formed of a frame Serial No. 521,966
18 having a grated or other facing 19 and the straps 20. This holder attachment is adapted to be secured to the open section of a crate or case 21 by means of the straps or other fastening members and in certain cases may have the 0 discharge member 22 connected thereto at the bottom or the holder itself may be constructed .to have the discharge member form an integral part of the attachment.
In the use of the holder attachment, when it is desired to apply the attachment'to a crate or case as for example, in an orange crate, one side of the orange crate is removed and the attachment is secured to the open side of the crate by means of the straps or other fastening members and in the case where the discharge member forms a part of the attachment, the oranges will simply roll down into the discharge member to be picked up by the shopkeeper or other attendant, when necessary.
It is of course understood that'the sizes and shapes of the holder or holder attachment may be varied according to the requirements and the facing of the holder may be changed according to the kind of goodswith which it is to be -used, V
so long as such facing will not hide the contents of the case from the views of the'passersby.
What we claim is:
A holder for edibles and general merchandise comprising a display case having a central-parti- 35 tion dividing the case into front and rear compartments, grid covers adapted to close the open ends of said front and rear compartments and secured thereto by common strap members, and
a suspension hook fastened to said case. 7
