As a still further object of this invention, it is proposed to arrange a casing cover supported upon the brush body so as to be removable, and supporting the ejecting means mentioned in the previous paragraphs.

Furthermore, as another object of this invention, it is further proposed to construct the brush body with a plurality of super imposed shoulders encircling the central opening and selectively adapted to support the casing cover and the mesh bag. 1

Furthermore, the invention also proposes an arrangement whereby the mesh bag may be supported at various elevations upon the brush body in a manner so that its lower end may assume various positions relative to thefree ends of the brush bristles. v p

Furthermore, as another object of this invention, it proposes the adaptation of the invention to various types of brushes such as a body brush, a scrubbing brush, a nail brush, etc.

A still further object of this invention is the construction of a device as mentioned which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

1 Considering Figs. 1-5 inclusive, a body brush has been disclosed which comprises a brush body 10 with a central opening 11 surrounded by super-- 7 imposed shoulders 12 and 13. The brush body 10 supports a plurality of bristles l4'upon its bottom side which are arranged around the opening 11.

Acasing cover 18 is of hollow construction and adapted to engage upon the upper shoulder 13 upon the brush body. This casing cover is so arranged that it may be latched upon the brush bodyl More particularly, it is provided with a tongue 19 on one'side adapted to engage within 85. v

a recess 20 formed upon one side of the shoulder 13. The tongue 19 acts as a pivot so-that the opposite side of the casing cover may be pivoted upwards or downwards. Provision is made for locking 'themovable end of the casing cover in the fixed position and comprises a hinged member or latch 2l mountedupon the brush body'and adapted to coact with ajstud 22 projecting from the end of the casing cover. The arrangement is such that one leaf of the hinge 21 maybe snapped over the headedstud 22 to accomplishlatching of the cover in place. The casing cover 18 is provided with suitable air holes 18'. Arranged within casing cover 18 there is an ejecting mechanism capable of forcing a cake of soap downwards against the bottom side of the mesh bag 15 or when powder is used capable of forcing the powder in the same direction, This ejecting mechanism comprises a plurality of elliptical-shaped springs 23 connected with each other and depending from the top side of the casing cover. These springs connect with an ejecting plate 24 adapted to rest against the top 'of the cake ofsoap, as for example, soap 25 shown in Fig. 2, so as to press the soap against the bottom of the mesh bag 15. The ejecting plate 24 may also rest against the top of powder arranged within the mesh bag for the same purpose.

An arrangement is also provided whereby the mesh bag 15 may be supported at various elevations upon the shoulder 12 so that its bottom side may be differently spaced from the lower ends of the bristles. This is of advantage in cases where after some use the bristles become worn or where different conditions require that the mesh bag be at different positions relative to the bristles. More particularly upon each of the cornersof the frame 16 there are screws 26 rotatively mounted through the frame. Collars 27 are shown rigidly connected upon the screws and coast with the heads of the screws for maintaining the screws in rotative relation with the mesh bag. Each of the screws 26 threadedly engage in threaded apertures 28 formed downwards from the shoulder 12 and into the brush body. 'In operation, each of the screws 26 may be turned so as to hold the mesh bag 15 asdesired, for example, in a position indicated by the dot and dash lines in Fig. 2.

In Fig. 6, another type of brush body has been illustrated equipped with the same invention. More particularly the scrubbing brush 30 has been illustrated with the casing cover 18 and within this casing cover there is the same construction and arrangement as described relative to the previous form, that is the brush body is provided with the central opening in which the mesh bag is supported and so on with all the details previously disclosed. The scrubbing brush 30 may also be provided with an extension handle 30.

In Fig. 7, the sameinvention has been shown applied to a nail brush 31'. Again this form of the invention is identical as described relative to Figs. 1-5 inclusive. The exposed parts may be recognized by'corresponding reference numerals.

In the formof the invention disclosed in Figs. 8 and 9, a mesh bag made of any suitable fabric to provide for air circulation has been disclosed for use in lieu of the mesh bag shown in Fig. 4. The construction of the improved bag comprises a top frame'32 formed from a strip of metallic or any other material bent into the proper shape. This strip of material has overlapping

33 and 34 which maintain their adjacent positions merely by the resiliency of the strip itself. This arrangement allows opposite sides of the frame to be forced apart to separate the ends 33and 34. Mesh material 35 made of any suitable fabric is arrangedin form of the container adapted to hold a cake ofsoap and has all of its sides tapered with top ends 36 looped over and sewn by a plurality of parallel spaced stitches 37 forming superimposed parallel passages 38. If it is desired to raise the mesh bag '35- relative to the frame 32, somewhat similar to the adjustment of the mesh bag 17, it is merely necessary to slip the tapered sides of the mesh bag 35 off from one of the

33 or 34 of the frame 32 and to replace it again upon the frame but this time engaging the frame 32 through a different passage 38. While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be-understood that I do not limit myself ,to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. In a brush, a brush body with a central opening the edges of the body surrounding the opening being stepped upwardly and outwardly, a mesh bag for holding soap, soap powder and the like, adjustably supported on the lowermost of said steps to assume various heights and having an open top, a casing cover-supported upon the uppermost of said steps. and covering said mesh bag in all of its heights, and ejecting mechanism within said casing cover acting against the soap or other material Within the mesh bag, and exerting pressure for forcing this material out.

2. In a brush, a brush body with a central opening the edges of the body surrounding the opening being stepped upwardly and outwardly, a mesh bag for holding soap, soap powder and thelike, adiustably supported on the lowermost of said steps to assume various heights and hav-' ing an open top, a casing cover supported upon the uppermost of said steps and covering said mesh bag in all of its heightsand ejecting mechanism within said casing cover acting "against the soap or'other "material within the mesh bag, and exerting pressure for forcing this material out, said mesh bag comprising a frame of a size to seat on the lowermost of said steps-and mesh material supported upon said frame, the ad--' justable supporting of said mesh bag beingaccomplished by screws rotatively mounted upon said frame and threadedly engaging apertures within said brush body located in said lowermost step. a

4. In a brush, a brush body with a central opening the edges of 'the body surrounding the opening being stepped upwardly and outwardly, a meshbag for holding soap,v soap powder and the like, adjustably'supported on the lowermost of said steps to assume various heights andhaving an open top, a casing cover supported. upon the uppermost of said steps and covering said mesh bag inall of its heights, and ejecting mech anism within said casing cover acting against the soap or other material within the mesh bag, and exerting pressure for. forcing this material out, the adjustable supporting of said mesh bag is accomplished by a frame'composediof a strip of resilient material'bent'into the-same shape as said opening and of a size to fit on the lowermost of said steps with overlapping adjacent ends which are adapted to be manually separated, and mesh material formed with looped sides stitched together with aplurality of parallelspaced rows of stitches forming a plurality of super-imposed passages adapted to selectively be engaged upon said frame.

5. In a brush, .a brush body with a central opening, the edges of the body surrounding the opening being stepped inwardly and outwardly, a mesh bag for holding soap, soap powder and the like, adjustably supported on the lowermost of said steps to assume various heights and having an open top, a casing cover supported upon the uppermost of said steps and covering said mesh bag in all of its heights, and ejecting mechanism within said casing cover acting against the soap or other material within the mesh bag, and exerting pressure for forcing this material out, said mesh bag comprising a frame of a size to seat on the lowermost of said steps and mesh material supported upon said frame, the adjustable supporting of said mesh bag being accomplished by screws rotatively mounted upon said frame and threadedly engaging apertures within said brush body located in said lowermost steps, and means for holding the screws rotatively mounted within the frame.

6. In a brush, a brush bodywith a central opening, the edges of the body surrounding the. opening being stepped inwardly and outwardly, a mesh bag for holding soap, soap powder and the like, adjustably supported on the lowermost' of said steps to assume various heights and having an open top, a casing cover supported upon the uppermost of said steps and covering said mesh bag in all of its heights, and ejecting mechanism within said casing cover acting against the soap or other material within the mesh bag, and exerting pressure for forcing this material but, said mesh bag comprising a frame of a size to seat on the lowermost of said steps and mesh material supported upon said frame, the adjustable supporting of said mesh bag being ac- LOUIS WOLFF.
