It will be obvious from the foregoing that an adapter has been provided for a flashlight of conventional construction which can be detachably mounted on the flashlight housing and when it is desired to use the flashlight for other purposes, the housing 10 can be removed from the bracket or standard 27 and the head taken off therefrom and the usual bezel and lens inserted in place of the structure hereinbefore described. However, when it is desired to convert the flashlight into a marine running light, the conventional head including the bezel and lens can be removed and the attachment herein described mounted on the casing 10. The attachment herein described can be used either with or Without the usual lens provided for a flashlight, in View of the fact that the plates 19 are positioned forwardly of the end of the flashlight housing 10 and as the divergent or inner ends of the plates 19 are positioned on each side of the bezel, it will be obvious that the ordinary lens provided with the flashlight may be used in combination with the structure herein described.
It is, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the. above specifically described embodiment. of this invention without departing'fromthe spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
What is claimed is: 1. An adapter as set forth comprising a bezel adapted to engage a flashlightcasing, a plate extending forwardly of the bezel in alinement with the longitudinal axis of the flashlight, a second plate secured to one edge of the first plate and positioned at a right angle thereto, a pair of guide members secured one on each side of the first plate forwardly ofthe bezel, guide members positioned adjacent the forward edge of the bezel and disposed rearwardly of the first named guide members, a colored plate of light transmitting characteristics in each confronting pair of .the first plate to hold the colored plates-in forguide members, and means for securing the colored plates in the guide members.

As a new article of manufacture an attachment for a flashlight comprising an annulus, an opaque plate secured to said annulus and extending longitudinally of the axial center ofthe annulus and dividing the annulus into equal parts, a pair of colored light transmitting plates and coacting guide means carried by the annulus and the first plate to hold the two colored plates in forwardly convergent position.
3. As a new article of manufacture an attachment for a flashlight comprising an annulus, an opaque plate secured to said annulus and extendinglongitudinally of the axial center of the annulus and dividing the annulus into equal parts,
a pair of colored light transmitting plates, coacting guide means carried by the annulus and the first plate to hold the colored plates in forwardly convergent position, and a base plate secured to one edge of the first plate and having one edge abutting against said annulus.

As a new article of manufacturean attachment for a flashlight comprising an annulus, an opaque plate secured to said annulusand extending longitudinally of the axial center of the annulus and dividing the annulus intoequal parts, apair of colored light transmitting plates, coacting guide means carried by the annulus and wardly convergent position, a base plate secured to one edge of said first plate and the annulus and disposed at a right angle to said first plate, and a cap engaging said guide means and. said colored plates to hold said colored plates against movement in said guide means. v 5. An adapter as set forth comprising a bezel adapted to engage over one end of a flashlight casing, aplate secured to the bezel and extending forwardly therefrom in alinement with the longitudinal center of the bezel, a colored light transmitting plate'on each side of the first mentioned plate, and means for securing the colored plates one on each side of said first plate in the path of light rays passing through said bezel. 6. An adapter for converting a flashlight into a marine running light comprising a bezel adapted to engage the flashlight casing, an opaque plate extending in a direction substantially in alinement with the axial center of the bezel, a 125 pair of light transmitting plates one on eachside of said first plate, a base plate secured to said first plate and positioned at a substantially right angle thereto, and means for securing a colored plate'of light transmitting characterictics on each 130 side of the first plate and on an angleto said first plate.
