This invention relates to garments, and is particularly directed to improvements in a garment of the general type, disclosed in my co-pending application, hereinafter mentioned, and which 5 may be worn either as a coat or as a shirt, or as a combination coat and shirt.

An object of this invention is to provide in a garment of the character described, a shirt front 4 simulating member comprising a complete collar having a folded over portion, and which may be 'attached to the coat in such a way that the collar will be retained in neat condition.

A further object of this invention is to'provide a garment of the character described, having a shirt front simulating member which may be retained in substantially fiat and neat condition by means of a band extending around the back of the wearer.

A still further object of my invention is to provide in a garment of the character described, a modified form of shirt front simulating member having separate folded over collar portions adapted to be exposed when the garment is worn, the construction including means for retaining said portions in folded down position.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a neat, attractive garment of the character described, which shall be relatively economical to manufacture, comprise few and simple parts, which shall be easy to don and dofi, comfortable to wear, particularly in warm weather,- and which shall be practical and efficient to a high degree in use.

Referring now in detail to the drawing, 10 designates a garment embodying the invention, shown in Fig. 1 for the purpose of illustration, as a garment which may be worn either'as a coat or as a shirt, or as a combination coat and shirt. The garment is particularly useful for wear in warm weather and may be made of ordinary shirting material such as cotton, silk, rayon, broadcloth or any other suitable material, and may be manufactured without canvas lining or backing. The garment may be cut in accordance with designs and dimensions for shirts, and as will appear hereinafter, will nevertheless have the appearance of a mans coat or combination coat or jacket and shirt.

The garment 10 shown in Fig. 1 comprises generally a coat portion 11 and a shirt front simulating member 12. The coat portion, as stated above, is preferably made of light shirting material and comprises lapels 14, sleeves 15, breast pockets 16 and side pockets. 1'7. The coat 11 is preferably cut to fit the body somewhat loosely in the manner of a shirt, instead of extremely snugly as is usual with the ordinary mans jacket.

The shirt front simulating member 12, shown in greater detail in Fig. 3 of the drawing, may be made of two

19 and 20. The section 19 may be provided with an inner edge 21 having a row of buttons 22. The length of said section 19 may be, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, such that the bottom edge 23 of said section extends to somewhat above the waist line of the wearer. Said section 19 covers only a portion of the wearer and is provided with an outer side edge 24. Said section 19 is further provided at the neck portion thereof with a folded down collar portion 26 including the point 2'7. Said portion 26, as will be seen from the illustration in the drawing, extends only to the side of the neck and terminates in a rear edge 28. Adjacent said rear edge thereof, said portion 26 is preferably provided with a snap fastener portion 30 adapted to cooperate with a complementary snap fastener portion 30a sewed to section 19, for retaining said folded portion in folded down position.

For retaining the shirt front simulating mem- "ber 12 in substantially neat, flat condition when worn, said member is provided with a band 3'7 made of tape or elastic material and attached at the ends 38 thereof to the side edges 24 of the

19 and 20. The band 3'7 is adapted to extend 'around'the back of the weareras illustrated in Fig. 1. When the garment 10 is worn the tie 40 may be passed around the back of the coat 11 and beneath the rear of the lapel 14. The tie ends may be then passed through openings in the coat disposed beneath the lapels and adjacent the sides of the neck, as illustrated in my co-pending application, Serial No. 5'72,'l59,

filed November 3rd. 1931, to permit the' tie to be passed beneath the folded down collar p'ortions 26.

' The coat portion 11, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing, extends below the waistline and substantially to the hips of the wearer and is of usual jacket or coat length. The lower ends of the garment, however, may be tucked within the trousers so as to give the garment as whole the appearance of a shirt. The bottom of the coat, however, may be worn outside of the trousers so as to give the garment, as a whole, the appearance of a combination shirt and coat. Obviously, the coat portion 11 may be worn without the shirt front simulating member 12, and thus has the appearance and character of a coat or jacket alone, and may be worn in combination with an ordinary shirt of usual construction, or in any other suitable manner.

In Fig. 2 the coat portion 11 is shown as worn in the manner of an ordinary man's jacket. Worn therewith, however, is a shirt front simu-' lating member 12a illustrated in greater detail in Fig. 6 of the drawing. The member 12a is substantially similar to the shirt front simulating member 12 except that the sections 19a and 20a thereof are elongated and are of the length of the ordinary shirt, thus producing

45 and 46 which may be tucked into the trousers when the coat portion 11 is worn either as shown in Fig. 1 or as shown in Fig. 2.

In Figs. 7, 8 and 9 there is shown a shirt front simulating member 12b which may likewise be worn with the coat 11 shown in either Figs. 1 or 2, and modified as hereinafter described. The member 12b comprises

19b and 20b which may be either of the length shown in Fig. 3 or of the length shown in Fig. 6, but which are interconnected at the rear by a portion 47 substantially forming a collar band adapted to extend about the back of the wearer's neck. Extending from and stitched to said portion 47 or the neck portions of the

19b and 20b, is a complete folded over collar portion 49. Said. portion 49 is provided at the rear thereof and adjacent the lower edge thereof, with a buttonhole 50 adapted to receive a button 51 attached to the rear inner side of the coat 11a at the neck portion 52 thereof. The button 51 serves to retain the folded over collar portion 49 in proper position so as to render the collar neat and. at-

tractive in appearance, and may constitute the only attachment between the member 12b and the coat. Thus when the coat 11a is worn with a shirt front simulating member 12b, the openings in the coat which permit the ends to pass therethrough, may be omitted since the tie may be passed around the neck portion 47 and beneath the folded over collar portion 49. 'Furthermore, the buttons 36 on the inside of the coat which are received in the button holes 35 of the shirt front simulating member 12, may likewise be omitted from the coat 11a when used in conjunction with the member 12b. The member 12b may likewise be provided with a band 37 extending around the back of the wearer for re- 91) taining the

It will be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the v 95 conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might ,be. made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be understood that all 1 )u the manner of a coat, said coat being buttoned 11 at the front and having a collar and lapels, and extending below the waist of the wearer, and a shirt front simulating member having portions adapted to be buttoned to each other, said portions being interconnected around the back of 1 5 the neck and having a folded over collar portion, and means for detachably fastening the rear of the folded over collar portion to the inside of the coat at the rear neck portion of the latter 2. A garment comprising a coat portion and a 12 shirt front simulating member having portions buttoned at the front, and a neck portion interconnecting said first two portions, and a folded over collar portion, and means for attaching the rear portion of said folded over collar portion to said coat portion adjacent the rear neck portion of thelatter.

3. A garment comprising a coat, a shirt front simulating member for said coat, said member having a folded over collar portion, and means 30 for detachably attaching the rear of said folded over collar portion to said coat in folded down position.

4. A garment comprising a coat, a shirt front simulating member detachably attached thereto, 5

and a band attached at the ends thereof to opposite portions of said shirt front simulating member and extending about the back of the wearer, said shirt front simulating member having a complete folded over collar portion, and

means for detachably attaching said folded over collar portion to said coat portion.

5. A garment comprising a coat portion and a shirt front simulating member, said member having a front portion, a portion extending around 5 the neck and a folded over collar portion, and means for detachably attaching said folded over collar portion to said coat portion.
