(01. 139-227) My invention applies to weft replenishing looms particularly to the shuttle changing types that effect replenishment during a temporary suspension of the weaving instrumentalities; and
is equally applicable to either the single or the multicolor type. Its purpose is to provide means that will prevent the starting of the loom automatically after a replenishing cycle unless a shuttle has been properly ejected from the lay.-
Devices are common in looms of this type to prevent the insertion of a fresh shuttle in the event that one is not ejected but I believe that means to render the starting mechanism inoperative under such conditions is entirely new. It will prevent possible injury to an operative due to inadvertently tripping the changing mechanism into action while making adjustments and being caught when the loom starts.
With these and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the combination and arrangementof parts hereinafter described and 'set forth in the claims. v

Referring to the drawings, I have shown a loom frame 1,.a replenishing magazine 2, and a lay 3 pivoted at 4 and having swords 5. A change shaft16 extends across the loom and performs the' functions common to a similar shaft described in my co-pending application United States Serial No. 603,051 during the replenishment period when the loom is at rest.

When the feeler indicates a change the'loom .is stoppedand arotation of the change shaft '6. is initiated by well-known means as set forth in United StatesPatent 1,100,866 granted June 23, 1919 to S. S. Jackson, during which the spent shuttle is ejected from and a fresh one inserted on the lay. j 7

through action of. cam 11 on change shaft 6 6Q actuating lever 12' connected to lifter'8 by connector 13 and fulcrumed at 14. When the front '7 is elevated to an extent 'suflicient to permit ejection of the depleted shuttle; the lifter engages screw 15 in ejector lever 16, causing the latter to rock on shaft l'lmounted on lay carried stand 10, and move ejector 18 forward beneath binder l9pto push against the lower back wall of the depleted shuttle and eject it'forwardly off the lay.
A cam 21 on thechange shaft actuates a cone veyor lever 22 through roll 23 mounted on said lever at 24. Lever 22 is pivoted at 25 on the loom frame and a spring, 26 fastened to the frame acts on the lever to keep the roll in contact with the cam and drawsaid lever yieldingly toward. the i lay. The ejected shuttle falls .down apron 27 toward the catcherbox 28, and is held fromdropping'to the bottom ofthe box by plate'29. The latter is fixedto a shaft 30pivoted on the box; A weighted lever 31 carrying a hooki 32 is 'alsofixed to shaft 30 and is .positioned so that as the conveyor 22 is moved forwardly at the beginning of replenishment the hook willentera notch 20 in said lever. By the weighting of shaft 30 the hook will tend to enter the notch and if permitted to do so .will restrain the'lever 22 from conveyinga 1 fresh shuttle to the lay. The presence of an ejected shuttle on the plate 29, as in Fig. 4, will overbalance the weighted effect and tendto rock the hook 32 away from notch 20; Lever'3l is prevented fromrocking far enough to allow the shuttle to pass by plate 29, by engagement of a part of lever 22 when the latter is in normal forward position prior to its rearward movement incident to transfer. energizes a leverfulv crumed at 35 and held against the cam by spring 36 between the frame and lever. As the cam 33 fixed to the starting connector 42 and carries av forward extending arm 43 pivoted at 44. The arm 43 is'normally held in raised position, as in Fig. 1, by a projection 45 on a forwardly extending arm 46 of a bell crank lever pivoted at 47 to agstand' 48 fixed to the frame. The lower arm 49"of the bell crank carries one end of a connector 50, the other end of which is carried by an arm 40 fixed to shaft 30. The latch or link 43 is therefore seen to be normally raised above the upper end of Y lever 34. V
In operation, the shuttle will be ejected from the lay during the first part of the replenishing period and will slide down along apron 27 toward the catcher box 28. The conveyor lever 22,
being at this time in relatively forward position with respect to the lever 3l, will prevent the latter from rocking under the weight of the shuttle on plate 29. "When the ejected shuttle reaches the plate 29, therefore, no further movement into the boxwill be [permitted until after the conveyor lever has moved rearwardly.
As replenishment proceeds the lever 22 will move rearwardly out of restraining position with respect to lever 31 and the latter will be free to rotate in a clock-wise direction as viewed in Fig. 1 due to the weight of the shuttle resting on plate 29. The resultant rocking of lever 31 will move rod 50 rearwardly, and rock a bell crank lever 49 in a counter clock-wise direction about a fixed pivotal support 47. An arm .40 is secured to the shaft 30' and pivoted to the rod 50 and gives the latter its rearward impulse, Arm 46 and projection 45 are lowered and permit the link 43 to fall by gravity until it rests on the rod 42.
When link 43 is in the position just described an intermediate rise 51 on cam 33wi1l give the lever 34 a slight rearward .movement to carrya locking lug 52 over a'forward projection 53 on the link 43, thereby preventing upward movement of the link 43 under the. action of the counterweighted lever v31 when the shuttle moves off the plate 29 and into the catcher box. The counterweighted lever maintains the lugs52 and53 in this position until the high point 37 of cam 33 causes lever 34 to move rearwardly, at which time the 'lug 52 will press against the latch 43 and move the same together with therod- 42 rearwardlyf a The front end. of rod :42 is connected. to the shipper shaft 38 by means of an arm 39"so that rearward movement of the rod is accompanied by a restarting of the 1oom;due to-a shift' in'the shipper mechanism. A rear bearing 55 maybe provided for the rod 42 ifdesirable. 7

It is therefore seen that the ejected shuttle must reach a given or predetermined position in its path toward the catcher box before the loom can restart at the conclusion of the replenishing period. Having thus described my invention it will be seen that changes and modifications may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, but what I claim'is:
1. In a shuttle changing loom having a lay which stops to replace a depleted shuttle with a filledshuttle, means to'eject a depleted shuttle from the lay when the latter is at rest, loom control means capable either of causing the loom to resume running or effective to prevent resumption of loom operation after replenishment, and means dependent upon presence of the ejected shuttle at a given point'to cause the control means to effect resumption of loom operation.-
2. In a'shuttle changing loom which stops running during the replenishing period, means to eject a depleted shuttle from the lay along a given path, a change shaft rotatable during the replenishment period and effectiveto eject a depleted. shuttle from the loom, loom starting mechanism, and means controlled by the ejected shuttle to connect the mechanismand-change shaft if the shuttle is ejected from the loom 'to render said shaft effectiveto restart the loom.

4. In a shuttle changing loom which stops run ning during the replenishing period, means to eject a depleted shuttle from the lay along a given path, loom starting mechanism, a member normally operative at the conclusion of the replenishing period, and a force transmitting element controlling by the ejected shuttle to be interposed between and operatively connect the member and the starting mechanism to cause resumption of loom running only upon the condition that the depleted shuttle is ejected.
7. In a shuttle changing loom which stops running during the replenishing period, means to eject a depleted shuttle from the lay along a given path, a member having a normal working stroke at the conclusion of the replenishing period, a latch normally out of the path of the member and positioned operatively with respect to the member by the ejected shuttle, and ship per mechanism to start the loom dependent for operation upon the cooperation of the member and the latch to resume loom operation at the conclusion of the period.
8. In a shuttle changing loom which stops running during the replenishing period, means to eject a depleted shuttle from the lay along a given path at the beginning of the replenishment period, means to restart the loom at the conclusion of the replenishing period, and a controller for said means operated by the ejected shuttle and retaining indication of shuttle ejection until the conclusion of the replenishing period and effective then to cause resumption of weaving.
9. In a shuttle changing loom which stops running during the replenishing period, means to eject a depleted shuttle from the lay along a given path, at the beginning of the period, cooperating mechanism effective to restart the loom at the conclusion of the period and a controller for said mechanism to take the indication at the start of the period if the ejected shuttle reaches a given point in said path and hold said indication until near the conclusion of the period and thereafter render said mechanism effective to restart the loom at the conclusion of said period.
10. In a shuttle changing loom which stops running during the replenishing period, means to eject a depleted shuttle from the lay along a given path, shipper mechanism, a member having a normal stroke capable of operative relation with the shipper mechanism, and means dependent upon arrival of the ejected shuttle at a given point to connect the member and the shipper mechanism.
11. In a shuttle changing loom which stops running during the replenishing period, means to eject a depleted shuttle from the lay along a given path, a change shaft movable during the period of replenishment through a given cycle independently of the ejected shuttle, said shaft coming to rest at the conclusion of the period, restarting means to be actuatedby the shaft, and
a controller to be actuated by the ejected shuttle
