IMPROVEMENT IN JAR-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1912.760.,
, May 17, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, THOMAS HALE and HENRY HALE, of Wales, in the county of Erie, and in the State of New York, have inve e certain new and useful Improvements in Wrench for Holding Fruit-J ars and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
-and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a device for holding fruit-jars while fastening or takin goff as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make anduse the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing,in which- Figure 1 is a side view of our invention, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
A A represent the two handles of our device, having their inner ends curved, as shown., forming the jaws B B. These jawsV are connected by a iiexible band, C, of strong canvas or other suitable material, the ends of which band are riveted or otherwise permanently fastened to the jaws.
The band G is inclosed within a rubber dated July 3, 1877; application filed sleeve or covering, D, which also extends over and incloses the jaws B B, as shown, so that the metal will not come in contact with the jar.
The subject of this invention around a fruit-jar, and, by handles A A, to hold the screwing on the cover. venience,
is to be placed compressing the jar firmly while This is of great conas generally the cover should be fastened while the contents of the jar are yet hot, and thus it will prevent the person fastening the cover from burning the fingers; also, in unscrewing the cover it is useful, as the cover often sticks, and the jar will slip in the hand while attempting to turn the cover with the wrench.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described fruit-jar holder', consisting of the handles A A, forming the curved jars B B, the flexible band C, and the rubber sleeve or covering D, .substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 2d day of May, 1877.
j THOMAS HALE.
HENRY HALE. Witnesses:
