No. 192,721. Patentd July 3,1377
NVENTOR:

WILLIAM J. WADEMAN, OF BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT m BUNG-EXTRACTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 192,721,
dated July 3, 1877; application filed May 21, 1 877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM JAMES WADE- MAN, of Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Bung-Extractor, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a sectional view of my improved bung-extractor; Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views, in detail.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
This invention relates to devices for extracting bungs from barrels or kegs; and the nature of my invention consists in an extractingrod having afiat arrow-head formed on-oneend for penetrating and giving a hold on a bung, in combination with a tubular hammer-stock for driving the arrow-head of the said extractor through a bung, as will be understood from the following description:
r In the annexed drawing, A designates the extractor, which is a prismatic rod having a round head 'or' anvil, a, formed on one end, and an arrow or V-shaped head, b, formed on; the opposite end, justabove which is arounded andreduced portion, 0. (Shown clearly in Fig.
1.) B designatesa tubular hammer-stock, constructed with a T-handle on one end and provided vitha screw-threaded tapped into its other end. The square 4 or prismatic portion of' the extractor A passes freely through the plug D, and the head (1 works inside of the stock B the full length of its bore.
My improved extractor is used as follows: The arrow-head b is applied in the center of a bung and driven through the same by giving quick vertical movements to the stock or hammer B. When the head b has passed entirely through the bung this head is turned onequarter around, thus taking a firm hold and allowing the bung to be extracted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The arrow-head extractor A, having anvil a, in combination with tubular hammer-stock B, having T-head at the upper and guide D at the lower end, as and for the purpose specified. 7
