Application April 26, 1933. Serial No; 667,954 Claims; ((140- 126) eral way the principles of said patented device,
and provided with simple and easfly manipulable means for rigidly retaining the several cooperating parts thereof in their erect or set up positions. 1
More particularly, in one embodiment of my present invention, 1 provide a structure consisting of upper and lower sections of heavy cardboard or other material, and means conv necting said sections together along their corresponding longitudinal edges whereby said sections may be relatively moved to andirom collapsed superimposed relation into spaced apart parallel relation, together with a display panel fixedly attached at one of its ends to one of said connecting means between the base sections, and members flexibly connected to the lower base section and movable through slots in the upper base section to erect positions upon movement of said panel toan upri ht position relative to 30 the base.
It is a further general object of the invention to provide a display device as above character ized, the several parts of which are of very simple construction, as well as inexpensive to manufacture, and strong and durable.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists inthe improveddisplay device, and in the form, construction and relative arrangement or" its several as will be here: inafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and subsequently incorporated in the subjoined claims.
In the drawing wherein l have disclosed one simple and practical embodiment of the invendesignate corresponding parts throughout the several views,- Fig. 1 is a perspective View showing one practical embodiment of the invention; Fig. 2 is a central transverse section; Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view the line 33 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 2, showing the parts in folded or collapsed position. 1
tion, andin which similar reference characters. and thereby semllely l t e Same inerect wardly extending portion of the part 12, said taken on I position and the part 12 adjusted as shown in Referring in detail to the drawing, the base of the display device includes upper and lower sections indicated. at .5 and 6 respectively which may be produced from heavy cardboard or other suitable material. These base sections may be of any desired predetermined area, and along their corresponding front and rear longitudinal edges are hingedly connected with each other by the sections 7 which may likewise be of cardboard, and for convenience in manufacture, may be produced from integral portions of one or the other or" the base sections 5 or 6.
To the rear section '7 of the base, a display panel 8 is-suitably attached at its lower end for movement as a unit therewith.
The top section 6 of the base structure is pro,- vided with one or more slots 9 therein, and through these slots the display members 10 and 1-1 respectively are movably' disposed, the said members being hingedly connected with the bottom section 5 of the base structure. As herein shown; the member 10 may be struck out from the material of said base section 5, while the other member 11 located adjacent one, edge of said base section may constitute a part of the blank from which said section is cut. I
An adjustable locking and s pporting part generally indicated at 12 may also be die stamped or cut from the blank forming the base section 5 and remains hingedly connected therewith along the transverse fold line indicated at 13. The lower end oi the panel 6 in line withthe cut-out partoi the base section 5, from which the adjustable support 12 is produced, is also provided with an opening as indicated at 14: so-as to permit the upward. swinging or hinging movement of the part 12 to an erect position. The tree end of said part 12is provided with a slot as indicated at 15 to receive the said panel 6;
The display member 10 is also provided at its lower end-with a notch indicated at 16 to accommodate the part 12, said part which extends beneath the top section 6 of the base being pro-- vided with the slot 1'? to receive the member 10,
position. g
The top section 6 of the base at its rear edge also is cut away as at 18 to accommodate the up-.
top section at one edge of said cut-out being 105 provided with a tab or extension 19 to be received. through the horizontal slot 20 in the part 12.
It will be apparent from the above description that when the device is arranged in its set-up 11 O Fig. 2 of the drawing, into locking engagement with the top section 6 of the base, the panel 8,
and the member 10, the several parts will be rigidly sustained and held against accidental collapse, while the part 12 extending rearwardly of the panel 8 furnishes an easel or additional sup-, port tending to prevent accidental tipping over of the device from its proper position in the window or upon the counter.
When it is desired to collapse thedevice, it is only necessary to move the part 12 from its vertical position to a horizontal position in the plane of the base section 5. The panel 8 may then be moved forwardly and downwardly so as to collapse the parallelogrammatic base structure, the display members is and 11 being automatically closely folded in the movement of the top section 6 of the base between said base section and the panel 8, as clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawing.
, Thus, a large number of such devices may be very compactly arranged so as to occupy a minimum of space in shipment or storage. It is also apparent that in view of the simple and durable construction of the several cooperating elements, the device may be repeatedly folded or collapsed without impairing the proper operation thereof or distorting or otherwise damaging the relatively movable elements.
From the foregoing description considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, manner of use and several advantages of my display device will be clearly and fully understood. It will be seen that I have pro" vided an article of this character which lends itself to use in the attractive design display of various commodities or the purposes to which merchandise of dilierent kinds may be applied. Therefore, while I have illustrated one example of a display embodying my present improvements, it is of course evident that in accordance with the particular commodity to be advertised, such device be produced in various other shapes or sizes, and the several structural parts thereof modified as the occasion might require. Accordingly, it is understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all such legitimate changes therein as may be fairly incorporated within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
