1 Claim. (01. 268 -2) 7 i This invention relates to bank protective devices and has special reference to a protective screen for tellers, cashiers and other persons receiving and paying money to the public through a window or the like.
One important object of the invention is to provide an improved guard arranged so that it constantly tends to position across a money window but'which is normally held out of position by a latch.
A second important object of the invention is to provide improved means for quickly positioning a screen of this kind across a window.
A third important object of the invention is to provide improved means for restoring the screen to inactive or housed position after use.
A fourth important object of the invention is to provide improved means for latching the screen from movement. 20 With the above and other objects in view, the
invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts h reinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and
Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of a money cage showing the screen in inactive orhoused 30 position;
Figure 2 is a similar view with the screen elevated;
Figure 3 is an enlarged section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
. Figure 4 is an 44 of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is an 5-5 of Figure 1';
Figure 6 is a section on the line 66 of Fig- 40 ure 3; and
Figure 7 is an enlarged section on the line '7--'7 of Figure 2. r
In the embodiment of the invention here illustrated, there is shown a partititon 10 above which is a window 11. A shaft or counter 12 forms the bottom of this window and extends rearwardly therefrom into the money cage, the general public transacting business through the window 11 from in front of the partition. This counter is provided with a slot 13 extending between the sides of the window frame and slidable vertically through this slot is a screen plate 14 provided with a frame having a top plate 15 which, when the screen is lowered, closes the slot 13 so that money is prevented from dropping 35 enlarged section on'the line enlarged section on the line therethrough or lodging therein. This plate is of bullet proof material.
Extending between the lower ends of the boxes 16 is a resetting shaft32 on which are wound cords or cables 33 having their free ends attached to the bottom of the plate 14. A cable 34 is wound at one end in the opposite direction on the shaft 32 and has its other end wound on a shaft 35 supported in a frame 36. The shaft 35 carries a belt pulley 37 which is connected by a belt 38 with a belt pulley 39 fixed on a shaft 40 supported in the frame 36. On the shaft 40 is wound a cable 41 supporting a counter weight 42. A crank '43 is used to actuate the shaft 35 for resetting the guard plate. I
A belt tightener 45 may be used to keep the belt 38 tight and the plate 14 may be provided with peep or sight holes 45 normally covered by swinging shutters 46.
In operation, when danger occurs the employee simply presses on the bar 32 and releases the latches. The weights 20 will drop and the guard plate fly up. At the same time the cables 33 will unwind and the cable 34 wind onto the shaft 32 and off the shaft 35. This will effect winding of therefore,-desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described but it is desired to include all such as come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
Operating means for a protective device for bank windows wherein'a bank window is adapted to be closed by a guard plate, the operating means including weight boxes at the sides of the guard plate, weights in said boxes, pulleys at the upper ends of said boxes, cables running over said pulleys and each having one end attached to the guard plate and its other end attached to a Weight, manually releasable means for normally holding the guard plate in a lowered inoperative position, and means'for resetting the guard plate including a journalled shaft, cables wound on the shaft and attached to the lower edge of the guard plate, a crank operated shaft, a cable connection between the two shafts and a counterbalance for the journalled shaft having a belt connection with the crank operated shaft.
