Description
J. WASMER.
WE'LL-BUCKET EARS.
ATTEST INVENTOR:
N.PETIER3. FHO'i'O-UTHDGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D. cr-
Patented June 26, 1877.

JAOOB WASMER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO WILLIAM BROWN,
- OF SAME PLACE.
i MPROVEMENT m WELL-BUCKET EARS;
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB WASMER, of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Well-Bucket Ears, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification My improvement consists in a bushing which passes through the stave, and has a perforated head at the outside and a riveted cap at the inner side. The bail is turned in at the ends, where heads are swaged upon it, which occupy the chambers while the neck passes through the orifice in the head of the bushing.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows the bucket, one-half inside view, and the other half in axial section. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the ear with the parts detached.
The sides of the bucket are shown at A. At the opposite positions, in the sides, are made horizontal holes to receive the cars, which pass completely through the staves. The cars consist each of a barrel, B, forming a bushing to the hole a, and at the outer end of the barrel B is a head, 0, having through the center a hole, 0, in which turns the neck 11 of the bail D. The extreme end of the bail is swaged up into a head, at, which turns 1192,5 19, dated June 26, 1877; application filed May 29, 1877.
freely within the barrel B. At the inner end of the barrel are two lugs, 12, which pass through the holes 6 0f the cap E, and are riveted therein. The cap E has a diameter greater than the barrel B, and engages over the inner surface of the stave, so as to serve to hold the ear firmly in place.
The ear, as described, forms perfect bearing for the end of the bail, and has no projecting part that would be liable to be broken or to do damage to other objects, and it constitutes a bearing in which the ends of the bail turn freely, and which holds the end of the bail closely in place. Or the bushing-barrel B may be flanged outward at the inner edge and cap E dispensed with. l
I claim as my invention- The ear, composed of the perforated head 0 andbarre] B, in combination with a bucketbail D, with or without cap E, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of which invention I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of May, A. D. 1877.
JACOB WASMER.
