(Cl. 223-17) be increased or decreased, but in none of such forms, known to me could the body of the form be used for drying a garment of the size of the body of the form minus an extension.
In order to more clearly understand my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of one type of form constructed in accordance with my invention;

The specific hosiery drying form shown in the drawings is arranged to be heated by means of steam or hot water and is built up of a base 10, adapted to be bolted in position on a table or suitable support. This base is provided with two openings as usual for the admission and exit of the form heating fluid. Secured to the base 10 and to each other from the base to the points a, a are side plates 11, and secured to these side plates 11 within the structure is a reinforcing r strip 12, which extends from the base 10 to a point just below the points a, and is positioned between the admission and exit openings through the base.
l3 designates a U-shaped strip connected to the edges of toe portions of the side plates 11 from the points a, a to the extremity of the toe of the form, and connected to the central portion of the adjacent faces of the strip 13 is a spacer and support 14. This plate 13 together with the extremities of the two side plates 11, form two hollow projections which communicate with the chamber or chambers between the plates 11 below the points a, a, and formed between the adjacent sides of the strip 13 which form the inner sides of the hollow projections is a slot for the reception of an extension 15, for increasing the size of the form, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The upper and lower edges as well as the outer side faces form continuations of the upper and lower edges and side faces of the foot portion of the form.
These extensions 15 as shown in Figs. 1, 6 and 7 are of different lengths and are each provided with a slot 16 for engagement with the combined spacer and support 14 between the adjacent sides of the strip 13. The thickness of the extensions in relation to the space between the adjacent sides of the U strip 13 is such that when an extension is inserted in position it will be firmly held by frictional engagement with the sides of the strip 13, which not only acts to retain an extension in position, but also assists to heat the extension by contact with the heated strip 13.
In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the heating fluid flows as indicated by the arrows up through the body of the form on one side of the strip 12 to the hollow projections where the flow of the heating fluid is split and flows into the hollow projections, as shown in Fig. 3. is then reversed in the hollow projections and flows back through the body of the form on the opposite side of the strip 12, as indicated in Fig. 1.
Assuming that the form shown in Fig. 1, without an extension l5'inserted, is of asize to dry and shape a No. 10 half hose, a No. 10 half hose can be dried and shaped thereon, and if it is desired to dry a No. 10 /2 half hose on the form, an extension, such as shown in Fig. '7, is applied, which will increase the form a half size, and if a larger size half hose is to be dried, a larger extension 15 is applied. It will therefore be seen that by supplying flve sizes of extensions 15, six
different sizes of hose can be dried and shaped on one form. r

In Fig. 9, I have shown a form in which the heating fluid is conducted through the body of the form through a tube 1'7, having branches 18, which extend into the hollow projections and deliver and heating fluid to the extremities of the hollow extensions and which fluid flows back through the hollow form from both extensions.
It will readily be appreciated that other'means than those disclosed in the drawings can be used for heating the form.
In Fig. 10, I have shown a form in which a single extension plate 15a is adapted for various sizes. In this form two separators and supports 14a are provided, and the extension 15a is provided with a plurality of notches 1619, which open into slot 16a. The distance between notches 161) being equal to the diiferences between half sizes of half hose, and as there are six notches shown, the form together with the extension are adapted for drying six sizes of half hose.
In. Fig. 11, I have shown a heating fluid tube which is similar to the tube shown in Fig. 9, but which is shaped and of sufficient size for forming a support for the side plates 11 in place of the strip 12 shown in Fig. 1. When using this form of heat conducting tube, the width of tube 20 is equal to the distance between side plates 11, in the body of the form, while the width of the branch tubes 21 is equal to the spaces'between strip 13 and the side plates 11 in the hollow projections at the toe end of the form.
The advantages of my invention result from the provision of a garment drying form which is arranged to be heated, and which is provided with means for the reception of an extension member between heated projecting portions of the body, for increasing the size of the form, and whereby heat is transmitted to the extension by conduction from the projecting portions.
t is to be understood that various changes may be made, without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as set forth in the ap- I claim:
1. A'hollow drying form having a body portion, two hollow projections extending from the body and communicating therewith, there being a slot between said projections, and an extension adapted to be inserted into said slot for increasingthe size of the form.
2. A drying form having a hollow body for receiving a heating fluid, two similar hollow projections communicating with the hollow body and arranged to be heated by the heating fluid admitted to the body, there being a slot between said projections, supporting means in said slot, an extension adapted to be inserted into said slot for increasing the size of said form, and coacting means on the extension adapted for engagement with said supporting means.
3. A hollow drying form for shaping hosiery comprising a pair of side plates connected to each other along the major portion of their edges to form a hollow body portion, and a U-shaped strip at the toe portion connected at its edges to the other portions of the edges of the side plates to form hollow toe portions, there being an extension receiving slot between the adjacent sides of the U-shaped strip.
4. A hollow drying form for shaping hosiery comprising a pair of side plates connected to each other along the major portion of their edges to form a hollow body portion, a U-shaped strip at the toe portion connected at its edges to the other portions of the edges of the side plates to form hollow toe portions, there being an extension receiving slot between the adjacent sides of the U -shaped strip, and a support for the extension in the slot.
5. A form for hosiery having a leg, foot and toe portion, the upper and lower edges of the toe portion forming uninterrupted extensions of the upper and lower edges of the foot portion, said toe portion being slotted for the reception of a plate for increasing the length of the foot portion of the form.
6. A drying form for hosiery having separated toe portions the edges of which form uninterrupted continuations of the edges of the foot portion of the form, a support having parallel sides between the toe portions, means for heating the form together with the separated toe portions, and a flat plate like extension having a slot therein arranged to be inserted between the toe portions over the support and adapted to contact with the sides of the toe portions.
7. A drying form having the contour to shape an article to be dried, comprising a hollow body portion and two hollow projections, there being a slot between the projections for the reception of an extension to said form, the cross-sectional area and contour of the two projections and the extension at the junction of the projections and body portion being the same as the cross-sectional area of the body portion at said junction, and means for passing a heating fluid through the body and projections.
8. A hollow drying form having a body portion, two hollow projections extending from the body portion and communicating therewith, there being a slot between said projections, an extension adapted to be inserted into said slot for increasing the size of the form, and means for passing a heating fluid through the body and projections.
9. A hosiery form internally chambered to re ceive a temperature changing medium, the toe of the form having a slot with chambers on opposite sides of said slot, said slot extending completely through said form and opening through opposite faces thereof and a removable toe portion engaging the walls of said slot.
