This invention relates to improvements in pulp screening apparatus and more particularly to roller shoes and cam apparatus therefor.
An important object of my invention is to provide a roller shoe of improved construction for attachment to the diaphragm operating plunger.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an improved cam apparatus for operating the roller shoe and plunger.
A further object of my invention is to provide a system of lubrication for the plunger and roller shoe parts.
Other objects and advantagesof my invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and wherein like characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts throughout the same,

In the drawings, wherein for, the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates the customary vat of a pulp screen provided with the usual diaphragm 11. The vat 10 is mounted'on standards 12 which in turn support the usual longitudinal bridgetree 13 inwhich the cam shaft 14 is journaled for rotation.
The apparatus thus far described is customary and forms no part of the present invention.
An upright 15 is bolted to the bridgetree l3 and has a complementary section 16 bolted thereto and to the bridgetree. The sections 15 and16are arranged over the usual lubrication wells 17 and form a housing for the cam androller shoe, as
well as forming a bearing for the plunger rod 18. A bushing 19 is preferably arranged in this bearing. A forked frame 20 is carried by the plunger rod 18 above the bearing and supports the usual diaphragm board 21. The upper end of the upright extends above the bearing and is bent over an extended between the arms of the frame 20 at a point spaced from its ends. A coil spring 22 is arranged between the lower end of the frame and the bent end of the upright and an adjusting screw v 23 is preferably provided for varying the tension of the spring. It will be seen that upward movement of the plunger is resisted by the spring 22 which will return the plunger to its normal position. 4
My improved roller shoe comprises a pair of spaced rollers 24. joined by a central shaft 25.
The rollers are preferably formed hollow to reduce weight, and the entire shoe is preferably a one piece integral steel construction. The shaft 25 is received in a substantially semi-circular recess in a block 26 at the lower end of the plunger18, and a substantially semi-circular bushing 2'? may be arranged in this recess to engage the shaft 25.
The cam apparatus comprises a pair of spaced cams 28 arranged on the shaft 14 at the well 17 and which are arranged to engage the rollers 24. These cams are shown as provided with four gentle rises connected by convex surfaces for raising the plunger and vibrating the diaphragm, but'other types of cams may be used. The circumference of the rollers is preferably incommensurable with the periphery of the cam and wear will consequently be evenly distributed over the surfaces of the rollers.
'The cylindrical body portion 29 which conheats the cams 28 is provided with radially extending vanes 30 which are shown as semi-circular in shape and pass between the rollers 24 during rotation of the cam apparatus. 7
In, operation the wells 17 are filled or partly filled with lubricating oil and the earns 28 and connecting body 29 are partly immersed therein. The sections 15 and 16 enclose the cam and roller apparatus and prevent escape of the oil. When the cam shaft 14 is rotated, the vanes splash or throw oil upwardly to "the roller and plunger bearings and insure lubrication of these" hearings at all times as well as protecting the rollers and cams by a film of oil. With the double roller shoe and cam construction, not only ferred embodiment of my invention it is tobe understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit of my inven- 1 tionor the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention what I- claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is: 1. In a pulp screening apparatus, a roller shoe for engagement with a cam comprising a pair rollers, the rollers and shaft being of integral of spaced rollers, and a shaft connecting the rollers.
2. In a pulp screening apparatus, a roller shoe comprising a pair of spacedrollers, and a shaft connecting said rollers and adapted to rotatably engage a bearing.
3. In a pulp screening apparatus, a roller shoe comprising a pair of spaced rollers, and a shaft integrally connecting said rollers.
4. In a pulp screening apparatus, a roller shoe comprising a pair of spaced rollers, and a shaft connecting the rollers, the rollers and shaft being of integral metallic" construction.
5. In a pulp screening apparatus, a roller shoe comprising a pair of spaced hollow rollers and a shaft connecting thecentral portions of said rollers.. a
6. In a pulp screening apparatus, a roller shoe comprising a pair of spaced hollow rollers, and a shaft connecting the central portions of said steel construction.
7. The-combination with a pulpscreen, of a plunger operatively associated therewith, and a roller shoe associated with the plunger, said shoe comprising a pair of spaced rollers, and a shaft connecting the rollers.
8. The combination with a pulp screen of a spring pressed plunger operatively associated therewith and having a bearing therein, and
' a roller shoe comprising a pair of rollers, and a shaft connecting the rollers andengaging the bearing in the plunger.
.9. The combination with a pulp screen, of a plunger operatively associated therewith, and a roller shoe comprising a pair of spaced rollers,
and a shaft integrally connecting the rollers and engaging the plunger.
10. The combination with a pulp screen, of a plunger associated therewith, and having a bear: ing therein, and a roller shoe comprising a pair of spaced rollers, and a shaft integrally connect.- ing the central portions of the'rollers and engaging the bearing in the plunger.
11. The combination with a pulp screen, of a spring pressed plunger associated therewith and having a bearing therein, and a roller shoe comprising a pair of spaced hollow rollers, and a shaft connecting the central portions of the rollers and engaging the bearing in the plungers, said rollers and shaft being of integral steel construction.
12. The combination with a pulp screen, of a plunger associated therewith, a roller shoe oper atively associated with said plunger, and a cam: engaging said roller, and being partially immersed in a lubricating liquid, and means associated with said cam to throw liquid onto the roller shoe.
13. The combination with a pulp screen ofa plunger associated with said screen, a roller shoe rotatably engaging said plunger, a rotatable cam engaging said roller, a supply of lubricating material arrangedin proximity to said cam, and means operated by the rotation of said cam to supply the roller and plunger connection with the lubricatingmedium.
14. The combination with a pulp screen, of a plunger associated with said screen, a roller shoe rotatably engaging said plunger, arotatable cam engaging said roller, a supply of lubricating material arranged in proximity to said cam, and
' vanes associated with said cam and adapted to dip into said lubricating medium during rotation of the cam to supply the roller and plunger connection with the lubricating medium.
15. The combination with a pulp screen, of 2.
plunger associated therewith, a pair of spaced rollers rotatably engaging said plunger, a pair of spaced rotatable cams engaging said rollers, a supply of lubricating oil arranged adjacent said cams, and means arranged between said cams for splashing the lubricating oil to the connection between the plunger and rollers when the cams are rotated.

The combination with a pulp screen of a plunger associated therewith, a pair of spaced rollers rotatably engaging said plunger, a pair of spaced rotating cams engaging said rollers, a supply of lubricating oil arranged adjacent said cams, and vanes arranged between said cams and adapted to dip into said oil when the cams are rotated,

mersed in lubricating oil, and a plurality of radial vanes arranged on said body portion.
18. The combination with a pulp screen, of a plunger associated with said screen, a pair of spaced rollers, a shaft connecting said rollers and rotatably engaging said plunger, a pairof spaced rotatable cams engaging said rollers, a connecting body portion between said cams which rotates therewith and being partially immersed in lubricating oil, and a plurality of radial'vanes arranged on said body portion.
19. The combination with a'pulp screen, of a plunger associated therewith, a pair of rollers rotatably engaging said plunger, a pair of spaced rotatable cams engaging said rollers, and a body portion connecting said cams and partially immersed in a supply of lubricating oil, said body engaging said'roller, a supply of lubricating material arranged in proximity to said cam, and a grooved member associated with said cam torotate therewith and adapted to dip into said lubricatingmedium during rotation of the cam to supply the roller and plunger connection with the lubricating medium.
21. A device of the character described comprising a pair of spaced rollers, a pair of spaced rotatable cams engaging said rollers, a supply of lubricating liquid arranged adjacent said cams,
and. means arranged between said cams for splashing the lubricating liquid onto the rollers.
22. The combination with a roller shoe comprising a pair of spaced rollers, of a pair of spaced rotating cams engaging said rollers, a supply of a lubricating medium arranged adjacent said cams, and'vanes arranged between the cams and adapted to dip into said lubricating medium when the cams are rotated.
23. The combination with a roller shoecomprising a pair of spaced rollers, of a pair of spaced rotating cams engaging said rollers, and a plurality of radial vanes arranged between said cams.
24. The combination with a roller shoe comprising a pair of spaced rollers, a pair of spaced rotatable cams engaging the rollers, and a body portion connecting said cams and being partially immersed in a supply of lubricating liquid, said body portion being provided with a plurality of substantially longitudinally arranged grooves.
