Description

AIR HAMMER DRIVEN WRENCH Filed May 6, 1952 Patented Aug. 22, 1933 v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in wrenches and has for its primary object to provide a wrench having mechanical operating means adapted to be utilized in connection with 5 pneumatic hammers to apply the operating force to the wrench.
A further object of the invention is to provide a wrench designed to be operated by the force of a pneumatic hammer, permitting the necessary pressure to be applied to the wrench when working in inaccessible places.
Another object of the invention is to provide a wrench of the above-mentioned character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eificient in use and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 is a side elevation view of the wrench, and,
Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration, I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 denotes the wrench in its entirety consisting of a shank 6 having a jaw 7 formed integral with one end thereof. The shank 6 is substantially rectangular shape in cross section and formed integral with one of the longitudinal edges of the shank adjacent its free end is a circular head 8 having a recess 9 in its face to receive the ball 10 formed integral with the end of the driving rod 11 and extending from the opposite end of the driving rod is a reduced stud 12 adapted to fit in the socket of a conventional pneumatic hammer. The driving rod 11 is adjustably connected with the shank 6, by the longitudinally extending parallel arms 13 cast integral with opposite sides of the ball 10, which are pivotally connected, as at 14, to the upper ends of the links 15 disposed on opposite sides of the shank. The lower ends of the links 15, are off-set inwardly, as at 16, and
are provided with longitudinal slots 17 to receive r0 the pins 18 projecting from the sides of the shank 6.
In operation, it will be seen that upon connecting a pneumatic hammer to the driving rod 11, the impulses of the hammer will be imparted to the shank 6 of the wrench, through the ball and socket connection between the driving rod and shank. The adjustable arm and link connection between the ball and shank permit the driving rod to be disposed at various angles with respect to the shank, thus permitting the wrench to be operated under all conditions with the greatest of ease.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain changes, in the shape, size and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:-
1. A wrench of the character described comprising a shank having a jaw formed integral with one end thereof, a socket member formed integral with one edge of said shank adjacent its free end, a driving rod having one end adapted to fit in said socket member and means pivotally and slidably connecting said driving rod to said shank.
2. A wrench of the character described comprising a shank having a jaw formed integral with one end thereof, a socket member formed integral with one edge of said shank adjacent its free end, a driving rod having a ball at one end adapted to fit in said socket member, a stud extending from the opposite end of said driving rod for connection with a pneumatic hammer, and
means pivotally and slidably connecting said driving rod to said shank.
. 3. A wrench of the character described comprising a shank having a jaw formed integral with one end thereof, a socket member formed integral with one edge of said shank adjacent its free end, a driving rod having a ball at one end adapted to fit in said socket member, arms extending longitudinally from said driving rod on opposite sides of the ball, and links pivotally connecting said arms to said shank.
4. A wrench'of the character described comprising a shank having a jaw formed integral with one end thereof, a socket member formed integral with one edge of said shank adjacent its free end, a driving rod having a ball at one end adapted to fit in said socket member, arms extending longitudinally from opposite sides of the ball, links pivotally connected to the free ends prising a shank having a jaw at one end, a
socket member at the free end of said shank, a driving rod having one end adapted to fit in said socket member and means pivotally and slidably connecting said driving rod to said shank.
