Objects relating to details and economies of our invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which a preferred embodiment of our invention is illustrated in the accompanyins, drawing, in which:

In the embodiment of our invention shown in the drawing, the mop comprises a handle 1 having a head 2 mounted on one end thereof and a mop wringcr rod bracket 3 secured thereto in spaced relation to the head 2. The head 2 comprises a laterally curved mop supporting or holding portion 4 which terminates in inwardly curved loops 5 which are provided with arms 6 and 2 extending substantially at right angles to the plane of the supporting portion 4.
Means are provided for securing the arms to the handle 1 which preferably includes a pair of sheet metal clips 8 having central opposed offsets forming a socket 9 for the handle 1 and smaller opposed offsets in the arms 10 thereof forming substantially parallel socket openings 11 and 12 for accommodating the arms 6 and 7 of the mop holder. The clips are secured to the handle by a brad 13 and the arms are secured together on both sides of the openings 11 and 12 by rivets 14.
The arm 6 extends through and beyond the socket 11 and is provided with an offset 15 for retaining the arm 6 in the socket 11. The other arm '7 preferably terminates within the socket 12 so that it may be readily disengaged from said socket by springing the mop holder 4 outwardly. The mop holder dis then free to be rotated on the retaining arm 6, as indicated by Fig. 5.
In this position, the endless mop cloth 16 may be readily engaged with the mop holder 4. In operation, particularly when the mop is twisted as .in wringing, the inwardly curved loops 5 obviate the possibility of the mop slipping around the mop holder.
The bracket 3 preferably comprises a sheet metal plate folded upon itself so as to provide an inclined bearing 17 for the mop wringer rod 19. The ends of the plate bracket 3 are provided with outwardly flared curved flanges 20 which form a semi-circular seat for the handle 1. The flanges 20 are secured to the handle 1 by screws 22. The folds of the plate 3 are secured together by rivets 23. A hooked keeper 24 is secured to the bracket 3 by screws 25.
The rod 19 is provided with a handle 26' at the rear end thereof having a laterally projecting arm 27 constituting a latch which is adapted to be engaged with the keeper 24 when the rod 19 is moved to a mopping position as indicated by Fig. 1. The lower end of the rod 19 is provided with a mop supporting loop 28 into which the mop 16 may be readily slipped.
When adjusted for mopping, the rod 19 is latched in the position shown by Fig. 1 by means or" the keeper and the latch. When it is desired to wring the mop, the handle 26 is grasped and the arm 27 is turned so as to disengage the keeper 24 and the rod pulled rearwardly as shown in Fig. 2. The handle is then turned so as to twist the mop as shown by Fig. 2 until it is completely wrung. As described above, the inwardly curved loops 5 on the mop holder portion 4 of the head prevent the lower end of the mop from sliding in an undesirable manner on the head.
By mounting the wi'inger rod in an inclined position in the holder the wringer rod is supported at the rear of and in close proximity to the holder of the head so that the mop is sup ported in the most effective position for inopping. It is locked in this position against rotative movement of the wringer rod so that the manipulation is very simple, as is also the structure.
When the wringer rod is retracted to wringing position as shown in Fig. 2 the mop is held in extended position and may be completely wrung, that is, there are no portions at the end oi the mop which are not effectively wrung, and
the retracting movement, owing to the inclined relation of the wringer rod, provides necessary clearance between the handle and the rotating parts.
Referring to the modification illustrated in Fig. 6, the mop holder comprises a resilient wire member 29 having an outwardly curved mop supporting portion 30 terminating in inwardly curved loops 31. One of the loops is provided with a bent arm 32 which is disposed in a recess 33 provided therefor in the end of the handle 34. A ferrule 35 embraces the end of the handle 34 and is secured thereto by nails 36. A wire closure 37 is provided for the opening between the other loop 31 and the handle, the closure having an eye 33 engaging the arm 32 and a hook 39 engaging the other loop 31. The closure 3'! may be readily opened and closed by ferred embodiments of the inventionit will be obvious to those skilled in the art that minor details therein may be changed without departing from the scope of the following claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a mop, the combination with a handle, of a head on said handle comprising a pair of clips having registering ofisets forming a socket for said handle, means securing said clips to said handle, said clips having radial arms provided with registering offsets forming longitudinal substantially parallel sockets, means securing said arms together, and a resilient holder member having a curved mop supporting portion terminating in inwardly curved loops having laterally extending arms disposed in said sockets, one ofsaid arms having an ofiset retaining said holder member in place in one of said sockets and the other arm detachably en'- gaging in the other of said sockets whereby it may be sprung out of said socket and said holder rotated on said retaining arm. 7
2. In a mop, .the combination with a handle, of a head on said handle having a looped holder member, a bracket mounted in fixed position on said handle in spaced relation to its head, said bracket having a bearing the axis of which is inclined towards the mop holder member, a wringer rod slidably and rotatably mounted in said bearing and having a mop holder at its forward end and a handle at its rear end, and means for locking said wringer rod in mopping position with the holder thereof lying at the rear of and in close proximity to the holder member of the head- 3. In a mop, the combination with a handle, of a head mounted on the end of said handle comprising a holder having an outwardly curved mop engaging portion terminating in inwardly curved loops, meansdetachably securing one end of said member to said handle including a sleeve embracing said handle, said handle having a recess therein near said sleeve, said member having an integral bent arm rotatably disposed in said recess, and a wire closure having an eye engaging said arm and a hook engaging one of said loops. 4. In a mop, the combination "with a handle,
of a head member mounted thereon and having oppositely projecting arms provided with sockets, and a mop holder member formed of spring metal having a looped mop engaging portion disposed laterally of the head and having coils at the ends thereof, one of said coils terminating in an arm rotatable in one of said sockets, the
' other coil having an arm detachably engageable in the other socket and retained therein by the resilience of the holder.
5. In a mop, the combination with a handle, of a head member mounted thereon and having oppositely projecting arms provided with sockets, a mopholder formed of spring metal having a looped mop engaging portion disposed laterally of the head and terminating in lateral arms, one arm being rotatable in one of said sockets and the other being detachably engageable in the other socket and retained therein by the resilience of the holder.
6. In a mop, the combination with a handle, of a head on said handle having a curved holder member provided with closed loops at each end thereof constituting stops limiting the transverse sliding movement of the mop on the holder, said loops terminating in lateral arms connected to said head.
I. In a Wringer mop the combination with a handle, of a curved mop holder member provided with a closed loop on one end thereof constituting a stop limiting the transverse sliding movement of the mop on the holder, said loop terminating in a lateral arm pivoted to said handle.
8. A mop holder, comprising a single looped member the ends 01 which terminate in closed inturned loops to prevent slippage 01 the mop when twisted, a handle, arms at the ends of the-loop means connecting said arms to said handle.
9. A mop holder, comprising an open looped member one end of which terminates in a closed inturned loop for preventing slippage of the mop on the holder, a handle, and means connecting the free end of said inturned loop to said handle.
10. In a mop, the combination with a handle, of a holder member at the forward end of said handle, a bracket mounted in fixed position on said handle and spaced from said holder memher, said bracket having a bearing the axis of which is inclined towards said member, a rod slidably and rotatably mounted in said bearing and having a mop holder at its forward end and a bail handle at its rear end, and a keeper mounted on said bracket, said bail handle having an arm engageable with said keeper, the length of said rod being such that in mopping position said holder is supported in assembled relation with said member by the coaction of said .arm with said keeper.
11. In a mop, the combination with a handle,
of a head mounted on one end of said handle one end of said member and means for latching in mopping position .the other end of said member to one end of said handle.
