Description

W. P. FERGUSON.
sHAWL-STRAP.
Na. 192,246,v lJ?e .'c.ented. June 19,1877.
[fava @im WILLIAM P. FERGUSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHAWL-STRAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l9221l6, dated June 19, 1877 application filed November 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known thatI I, WM. P. FERGUSON, of Brooklyn. county of Kings, State of' New York, have invented certain newV and useful Improvements in Shawl-Straps, of' which the following is a specification This invention relates to an improved retaining device for shawl straps, whereby a strap of leather, webbing, or embroidery may be used without perforating the same; and consists of a bar curved to form a handle, or a bar having a handle attached, bearing on each end ot' said bar, a flat plate of metal, having a longitudinal slot, to permit a rightangled lever to turn' into the same, held in place by two raised ears attached to theends of the plate, and by such operation describing a half-circle, forcing a strap at right angles against a serrated side of said longitudinal slot, to prevent slipping. To release the. strap, the upper or longer part of said right-angled lever is raised by the fingers or an upward motion of the loose end of strap.
But, to describe my invention more particularly, 1 will refer to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, whichY shows the operation more in detail. v
Figure l shows the plates in position, fastened to a dat bar. Fig. 2 is a transverse section cut through the line F F.
a is the flat plate, slotted longitudinally, having the raised ears b b attached thereto, holding the right-angled lever c c, which describes a half-circle, assuming the position D, to force a strap against the serrated side e.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shawl-strap, consisting of a handled bar in combination with a right-angled lever, c c, revolving in raised ears b b, and the longitudinal slot having the serrated side c, all constructed to operate substantially as hereinbefore set forth.
WM. P. FERGUSON.
